Does anyone feel like they're in Philly?? Seriously, 7 games and McNabb doesnt deserve to be a Skin? Just let him go after the season? It's the FIRST year under a totally NEW regime for the Skins on top of McNabb's first year on the team! I actually have confidence in our offense right now when on the field. Sure he hasn't been awesome but I don't believe he's lost any games for us. We still have tons of work to do to get this team to where Shanny wants it, tons. We're 4-3, you couldnt ask for anything more right now. We've also been in every game. I'm sure both sides are just fine in terms of a contract. Let's just take it a week at a time.

What? We can properly groom a quarterback now and still win with McNabb. I mean jesus, what other options we got? Its like franchise QB hit the market every offseason...We have a playoff experienced, leader in the locker room, competent quarterback who has already won us games this season, Im lost?...You want us to sit through another possible bust on the field like with just got through with for 3 or 4 years like effing JC? Im tired of watching that bullsh*t, McNabb is a great option for us now. We can draft a QB and let him ride the bench and learn under a real QB...Let McNabb go after one season is an epic fail
Agreed x 2

I'm surprised to see the McNabb bashing too. Not sure what team some of you guys have been watching the last few years. It reminds me of year one of Gibbs II. Guys are bashing cuz we go 6-10 but never consider the alternatives. Like they long for the 7 years of mediocrity and one playoff appearance that we got under Norv.

We are not 4-3 despite McNabb, we are 4-3 because of McNabb. Hate to pile on the JC bandwagon but if JC was our QB this year we'd be 1-6. The only game we maybe win is the Philly game. As bad as McNabb was against the Bears we still lose that game with JC trust me. Philly let McNabb go cuz they have 2 viable QB options on their bench. We have zero. I agree we need to develop a young QB for 2-3 years down the road, but McNabb is perfect for us right now IMO.

Couldnt agree more, this team is winning because of DM. That's what I was always trying to point out about JC and how his stats were misleading. He looked decent on paper but didnt win games. DM's stats are also misleading, he doesnt look as good as we think he should be on paper but the team is winning games with him and winning is all that matters.

And then there's this:

Some fans really want Rex?? Thankfully we haven't seen anyone suggest that here.

Thats simply retarded and a step back. Rex is a good back up and his role should remain as that.

The value with McNabb in this offense is that he can still elude, is tough to take down and still can make plays with his feet. This is pivotal right now. Our O-Line is still a considerable weakness with protection and we need to continue to build a better line. Trent is a good first step, but we need help with the interior and a healthy right tackle. A stand up pocket passer such as Rex is absolutely not the right fit at this time.

I dont support it yet, as the team is still winning, but i have wondered if Rex coming in (due to whatever reason), would mirror the effect that Collins had in 2007, as both quarterbacks were experienced with their respective offenses.

I'm not suggesting it, but what do you think? Grossman probably really does know the offense better than McNabb, and has a big arm as well. If the redskins get mathmatically eliminated from the playoffs, do we start Grossman just to see??

Re: Anyone bothered that McNabb STILL has no new contract??

From the article, pretty much sums it up for me:
No disrespect intended to the professional Grossman, but there's a reason why he's a backup. Actually, many reasons.

He helped the Chicago Bears reach the Super Bowl in his best season as a starter in 2006 (3,193 yards passing, 23 touchdowns, 20 interceptions), but he failed to keep the job and no longer is considered a starting-caliber NFL quarterback. That's not a criticism. It's a fact.

McNabb the QB is not as sharp as he should be....at the moment.
McNabb the Leader IS..........
Rex for President....not for QB

Re: Anyone bothered that McNabb STILL has no new contract??

So my question is, now that we know that Shanahan wanted to give McNabb 8 to 10 games before deciding on his contract....

If we somehow (hopefully not) tank, and get to a point where the skins are eliminated from the playoffs, do we play Rex Grossman, so Shanahan can decide if Rex is the QB for next season and possibly beyond??

I knew it was going to be just a matter of time before we began to see post about McNabb that surfaced on the RI. today.

Rex Grossman is not an option [imo] However, it's obvious there are concerns about the inconsistent play at the position.
Shanahan: no contract talks with McNabb during the season
Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said Wednesday that he would not be involved in any contract discussions with quarterback Donovan McNabb - or any other player - during the season, further dampening the chances that the first-year quarterback could received an extension in Washington before the season is over.

After the Redskins' workout Wednesday in preparation for Sunday's game at Detroit, Shanahan was asked if he needed to evaluate McNabb - who, through seven games, has what would be his worst passer rating since 1999 -- for a full season before deciding on an extension.

"They've asked me before: 'Well, when are you going to offer a contract? Have you talked about contracts?'" Shanahan said. "I'm going to do this with all different positions. No. 1, I don't get involved at this time of year. The only thing that I talk about is guys getting ready to play and playing at a very high level. If I ever talk about contract with a player, it'll be at the end of the season, for obvious reasons."

Earlier Wednesday, McNabb took a similar stance, though he joked that he would like to have a new deal in place by now.

"That's really nothing that I am concerned with at this particular point," McNabb said.

There is a possibility that General Manager Bruce Allen could initiate talks on an extension, but no deal of that magnitude would be executed without Shanahan's input.

For the record, I'll go along with everyone here -- and say that this seems like a horribly bad idea. Sure, he's really bad now - but there's the O-line, the lack of WR's without gray hair, the only recent rejuvenation of the running game. McNabb's been a ProBowl QB with "elite" written all over him for the past decade - and one year doesn't negate that.

SO - when this offseason comes around, and we're ready or contemplating whether to sign McNabb to a new deal, that's when we would then have to compete with 10 other teams.. Including Minnesota who's already shown a penchant for *free agent* senile QB's..

I'm just saying -- it would be nice to sign him to a long term deal so our second round pick doesn't get wasted. Most would agree he's worth it. Then we can draft someone to replace him.

Re: Anyone bothered that McNabb STILL has no new contract??

Well our second round pick wouldn't be wasted: we received a year of Donovan McNabb for it. That's what we paid for with that pick: we bought his existing contract.

A decision to extend McNabb must be made independent of what was traded for him.

We should have the Franchise tag in our pocket to use on McNabb. They may decide to discontinue the process of the franchise tag, but McNabb can't just walk unless we say he can.

Lost in all of this is that McNabb specifically said he wanted to be traded to D.C...I can only assume he is willing to stay in D.C. for a little less money than what Bills or the 49ers could/might offer him.

True, but dude lives in AZ... you'd think he'd be willing to give a discount to the Cards as well in hopes of throwing bombs to Fitz. Can't say I'd blame him.

I really can't stand to here someone even say Grossman over Mcnabb to start.

Makes no sense to me. Keep #5 in there and continue to get him more comfortable. Enough said.

I am somewhat embarrassed that RI would print that article in the paper. We aren't Philly, and without #5 at QB we are not 4-3 and definately do not have a better record.
