Man I hope not. I think the name stays cause Ole Danny Boy loves the publicity and the fact that people are still talkin about us even though we are a mediocre team. Any publicity is good publicity. The name and logo are a big part of the history of the NFL.
First of all, welcome aboard.

Secondly, you are absolutely right that the name is a big part of the history of the NFL. The logo has changed a few times, so the logo is not so big a deal.

However, all publicity is not good publicity. Just ask the folks who run the archdiocese of Boston about how some publicity can be "not so good"...

Re: Name change

What I meant was, Ole Danny Boy is an advertisement guy. So as long as people are talkin about the Skins he can use that as a selling tool. And thanks for the welcome.
I don't think a name change is likely, but just to play what if, what should we adopt as our new name?

such as:
Washington Tyrannosaurs
Washington Mammoths
Washington Dragons
Just make it simple .....the Skins,if the public wants to call them the "Redskins" well it's up to them(and they will) but as for the team by calling them the Skins everything can remain the same.

Exactly. With that decision on the books, it is now going to be more difficult for another lawsuit to prevail against the precedent that is set by the original case.

That is why I said the probability of Scenario #1 was small - - but not impossible.
The likelihood of a name change could happen if the Supreme Court changes its makeup. A new lawsuit could be based on the April, 1999 ruling by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The lower courts are forcing the hand of the U.S. Supreme Court to make a ruling.

Dan Snyder has open the door for a law suit because of his claim that the Washington Local Newspaper has used antisemitism in their article about him and his empire.

Why not just call them what they were originally known as, the Braves.

Re: Name change

Snyder would lose tons of money on a name change, and the fan base would shrink. Some people who are barely hanging on to being fans as it is would feel a weaker allegiance to a new name. I'm not one of those people, but I know I wouldn't feel 100% the same. It would never happen.

A logo change would most definitely come with a name change, the colors might not though.

If it were to change it would have nothing to do with native Americans. Its not just offensive because its a slur, its also offensive because it is characterizing the native americans in a slanderous way (not how I see it, but some people do see it that way, and therefore it has to be taken into consideration). Changing just the name to something like Washington Warriors and keeping the logo, would not please those already offended.

A name change would make more money because there would be a whole new set of merchandise to sell, and people would buy it.

Could we just drop Redskins and keep Washington or does the NFL require a providence and unique team name?

And you would lose millions of dollars for existing merchandise already in stock.
