re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
I hold nothing against any player not attending...These "workouts" are a circus IMO. Nothing is being accomplished outside of maybe a little team bonding, but they can bond by going to the dinner or any other activity together also. These practices are a publicity stunt across the league to try and get the public on their side. The same way Roger Goodell's phone calls to season ticket holders are an attempt to gain public sentiment for the owners side.

Practice over, Beck and Hankerson stayed after to run some routes together
Trent Williams doesn't plan to attend. Working out with....Vince Young |

I agree the workouts aren't all that helpful without coaches there, but I'm not sure it's just a PR move. I think players are genuinely eager to get back to work and these workouts are at least helping to get playbooks out to the rooks and getting them into the fold. |

Man, I'm so proud of these guys. Very impressive turnout...bit disappointed Orakpo, Landry, and Williams didn't show up.

Same. Not showing much leadership from those guys whatsoever. It's ok, their pockets straight. *rolls eyes* |

Maybe...I am not really down on individual players...just their leadership. Many of them may have a genuine interest in getting back to work but that doesn't make these workouts productive. I do agree though that getting the playbooks to rookies is big...provided that they are able to understand it without having coaches install it in practice. I guess any bit of familiarity they gain from flipping through it has to help somewhat though... |
Looks like we're done for the day. Unless they're meeting again this afternoon
D Smith spoke with the players afterward Jarvis Jenkins among those not there today Me: So Beck looked pretty good today? Colleague at Practice: You know, honestly, he kind of reminds me of your guy Chase Daniel. He's smart, makes good decisions, and I trust him in the short to intermediate game. But I just don't know that his arm is strong enough to go deep or last in a game where he needs to throw 20+ passes. Me: There's only one Chase Daniel!...what about Rex Colleague: If you could trust him to handle himself under pressure, he'd be the best QB we've had here in the past decade Me: Seems like quite an ask Colleague: No doubt. But from a pure throwing perspective he's been awesome
Thats the key, I think give Grossman decent protection and he won't have to handle himself (hopefully) under pressure. He would be our best option right now until the team decides on a franchise QB. On a side note.... I miss Chase Daniels. lol. Can we trade Portis to the Saints for Daniels? |
re: Redskins Players Gather for Another Workout (Day 3 Notes Start on Post #98)
I dont think its a PR stunt and actually do think its value added 2 ways: introduce the Skins rookies to systems and team chemistry. I think Beck and Hanky wouldnt be staying after practice if neither of the previous two things werent being met. Im proud of the guys, especially London. But to the key vets who are not there, Im kinda disappointed. Even though its not required, its the right thing to do if you can get there. This culture is changing and we need everyone aboard.
CRedskinsRule.....I didnt look at it in that way i guess....BUT per SSmack's post above he is sch to show tomorrow..........i like it!
I hope he shows something this year, still could make that 2nd round passable. Plus, him, Hankerson, Moss, Armstrong if they all turn it up, we could actually have a legit receiving CORPS. That would be the first time in a long time. |

Wow that was a good read. Almost felt like a formal minicamp write up, like real football for a second |
Yeah, I recall in camp they moved him there in a few packages. I agree that it is more likely a long-term fit for him & its a position we're thin at, especially if Rocky leaves as expected.
Yeah his versatility has been a blessing, good to see Rocky out there practicing with us though. |
