If it didn't matter to MK, he wouldn't have been the first one in and last one out day after day during last season even knowing he couldn't suit up. He wouldn't have requested the coaches stay with him for extra film sessions, or worked early mornings and late nights practicing running routes with our veteran receivers giving pointers.

I don't live in the area anymore so it's possible I missed it. The majority of the articles that I've read about him and his work ethic would lead me to a different opinion. |

I'm calling bullshit on this. Show me some articles that puts his work ethic in question. I think you have Kelly mixed up for Devin Thomas. |
Re: Roster Cuts coming and gone
Jason Reid is right here on Malcolm being Dan's pick. I remember hearing Vinny say that he wanted to pick Jerod Mayo at 21, but when NE got him at 10 he decided to trade down.

Devin was a lazy sack of *$%^
Malcolm just had bad luck |
Re: Roster Cuts coming and gone
VegasSkinsFan, I think you're flying solo as far as thinking MK didn't have any heart goes. I wish it had worked out for him, but I also tend to believe reports saying he never should've been drafted were true. It's just a bad case of luck on his part. I hope he has a bright future beyond football.

Malcolm just had bad luck
I just wanted to remind you and everyone else that we passed on DeSean Jackson and Calais Campbell for Devin Thomas, Fred Davis, and Malcolm Kelly! To think we could have had DeSean Jackson, Calais Campbell and (more than likely) Fred Davis. And even accounting towards Fred Davis, we took him in the 2nd and the packers got some guy named Jermichael Finley in the 4th. Just saying! |

I freely admit that I could be wrong on this. I take him blaming his pro workouts on his college training staff, him being hurt all of the time, and his nonchalant attitude about bring cut as a lake of heart. If the consensus in the board is that he's just a victim of being too fragile or worn down for the pro game I can respect it even if I didn't see it. One of the hard parts about living so far away from my favorite team is that I don't get to hear a lot of the local stuff anymore. I watch the games on Sunday ticket and read the post and times coverage but i don't get the post game interviews, the talk on the fan, or even the tidbits from the local news. Some stuff gets posted to YouTube but It's a ton of crap to wade through. Part of my opinion on this is when he was put on ir last year shanahan said "if i see him with the right work ethic and doing all of the little things, he has a much better chance of being with us next year". I took that to mean that he wasn't seeing those things instead of just giving him a blueprint on how To make the team. |
Re: Roster Cuts coming and gone
It hasn't been since his rookie season that he had work ethic issues. If you constantly can't perform your job, your dream, etc it will wear down on you. At least he's taking measures to not get left behind if football doesn't work out. That is the definition of heart and work ethic.

Re: Roster Cuts coming and gone
I like MK's attitude overall. I wonder about his statements that there is more to the story, but it sounds like he felt like there were serious medical issues that just weren't being diagnosed.
For people chiming in that we could have had x y or z player instead, the fact is that it's hard to predict how any player would have impacted our team given how dysfunctional it clearly had become under VC/JZ/DS. I am just glad that we seem to be getting back to being a professional organization. |
Re: Roster Cuts coming and gone
If If's and buts were candy and nuts we would win the Super Bowl every year. The draft is a crap shoot.

More stupid than bad attitude, and the stupidity was more driven by desire to practice, not desire to not practice. ----------------------------------- Redskins Notes: Kelly Understands IR Decision
“It’s disappointing,” the coach admitted. “Here’s a guy that works in the off-season and then sets himself back in the OTAs and then when we thought he was in pretty good shape as we got started for summer camp, he hurts it right before training camp. He’s gone over three-three and a half weeks getting ready and he feels like it’s full go and then he bothers it right away. There’s nothing you can do about it. That’s why you have a lot of players in a lot of different positions. You have a lot of competition and people that are healthy and people that can go out, prove themselves, get a chance to make this football team and get a chance to help us win.”
|
Re: Roster Cuts coming and gone
Speaking of MK.
"When he fully heals, he can be released. RT @caplannfl: Malcolm Kelly passed through waivers unclaimed. Goes to IR. #Redskins" So he technically goes on the IR (since he passed through waivers) until he's healthy, then he can be released. I guess that means Kelly is now a Redskins for life...lol :laughing- |
Re: Roster Cuts coming and gone
Actually, he'll retire a Redskin.
Kelly among Redskins' first round of cuts - Washington Times
Kelly had 28 catches for 365 yards and no touchdowns as a Redskin. He wants his foot to heal before he decides his next move, but he might consider retiring. “As much as I love this thing, I’m not going to go out here and kill myself,” he said. “It’s one thing to have one injury, man, but to have as many as I’ve had, it’s to the point where it is what it is.”
|
Re: Roster Cuts coming and gone
You can't blame MK for being hurt all of the time. It's not his fault that he's got these issues. From what I can tell, the guy had some legit talent, but his body won't hold up.
There were health concerns prior to the draft and that's why he fell. I guess we took a gamble and it didn't pay off. As far as MK being DS's pick. It's possible. He's always been hands on and has worked w/ Vinny to crap on the franchise. I think he may have finally gotten it w/ this Allen Shanahan regime though. No hate to MK, best of luck. |
