Re: Report: Peyton Manning Needs 2nd Neck Surgery
I think this confirms most of what we've been hearing all along and what SS posted yesterday Re: six weeks.
Look, if they're looking at him being down practically half the season, minimum, he might as well sit the entire season and get healed up. |
Re: Report: Peyton Manning Needs 2nd Neck Surgery
Peyton Manning is an old man football wise, he should just retire.
|
Re: Report: Peyton Manning Needs 2nd Neck Surgery
If he sits this whole year, he will be 36 entering next season.
|
Re: Report: Peyton Manning Needs 2nd Neck Surgery
if he retires/can't play does Indy go after any of the guarantee?

If he played some games this year, would that prevent him from turning 36? |

He's not Haynesworthless. He would give it back or give it to charity or something... |

Well there could be a possible conflict of opinion between a team and the player in this situation. A remote possibility though, but I guess it depends on whether the Colts feel that Manning withheld any information regarding his condition while they were negotiating his big contract extension. |

Yeah, right. The Manning family isn't known for philantrophy are they? |
Re: Report: Peyton Manning Needs 2nd Neck Surgery
Not sure why Peyton's contract is even being brought up. It's really simple. If he retires, he doesn't get paid. (Including guarantees) The guarantees are there if he does play and the team cuts him. That part he'll get to keep.

So the Colts can go after the bonus money, but it will just make the situation really ugly. |

We really don't know unless we see the details of the contract. I couldn't imagine them not having language to cover that serious neck injury. Then again, they have insurance for stuff like this. |

Probably not legally. If the injury was known pre-contract and no waiver or exemption exists, then standard CBA rules apply. It's not like Manning was deceiving the ownership about his injury. If the ownership was worried about its extent, they should have written it into the contract. If they didn't, or didn't do "due diligence" to find out the extent of the injury - too bad they lose. On top of that, not even sure if it matters under the CBA. It may be an unwaivable term: retire with injury, get full guarrantees as if you had performed the contract in its entirety. I mean, they are the ones that entered into huge contract with an injured and older QB. They took the risk on his being able to continue his performance at a high level. They may have lost that gamble with bad reprecussions on many fronts. |

Ditto, but if he was smart he would see if he could stay on as a assistant QB coach. He'd still get paid (probably a lot less though) and still be able to help whoever is at QB. His mind set should be looking into coaching. Heck maybe one day he might make a good HC. |
Re: Report: Peyton Manning Needs 2nd Neck Surgery
lol
People sure are quick to kick someone to the curb eh? I think he's still got plenty of football left assuming he get over this injury. He's good for the game, I hope he keeps playing. |
