Re: 49ers Postgame Thread

So this is a post from NC after the preseason game against the Ravens. This was so alarming to me that It was than that I started to doubt what was going on in Griffs head.

Re: 49ers Postgame Thread

What happened to the good old days when a young QB that is not ready mentally to run a pro system sat on the bench and took the time to learn? Mentored by his coaches and other Qb's on the roster. It worked for Aaron Rodgers, it worked for Steve Young, it worked for our Joe Theismann and Mark Rypien and countless others.

For an NFL that profits $9 billion a year and for our team that is (what?) the second most profitable team team in the NFL; we can not wait? Why?
I guess Snyder has his panty's is a bunch?
I feel if RGIII had been given the time to sit after his ACL injury and allowed to start when he good physically and mentally ready we would most likely not be in the predicament. When I say mentally ready that means breaking him of all of his old bad habits and teaching him to run a pro system. Instead he was rushed back in.
Even now when it is clear RGIII is not mentally ready to run a Pro offense, we can not sit him because DS feels we have to WIN THE FUCKING RAMS TRADE!
Impatient little minds made this problem. Impatient little minds make it continue to happen.
RGIII is not going to play his way out to this. It takes coaching and breaking a ton of old bad habits he has had since his early playing days where he was always by far the best player on the field. Now that he is not the best player on the field and he can not win with just his athleticism he has hit a wall. NFL defenses will eat him up and spit him out until he learns to be a pro QB. .

We dont have Favre, or Montana to mentor anyone. We have Colt Mccoy. Rypien was a success because he had a boat load of hall of famers all around him. Otherwise he was a nobody. Also Steve Young, and Rodgers are just better than Griff. Mentor or no mentor. Sad but true

You are missing the point....Give him time to learn. Don't throw him to the wolves.

Im not saying that Griff wouldnt or wont benefit from being benched. Im saying that it worked for Rodgers and Young because they were mentored by hall of famers and not Colt Mccoy. Im really just picking on the first paragraph of your post because .... Well... We arent in that situation. At all.
The rest of your post I totally agree with. I didnt want Griff playing until after the Bucs game and that was only if we were out of the playoff hunt at that point. I was never in the "gotta let him play to learn camp". I think that was and is a stupid way of going about things.

Farve didn't mentor anyone and didn't play the big brother role. Neither did Montana. I think those guys sat, watched and learned and took it upon themselves to be successful. Plus Rodgers has elite skills. If Rodgers was in this offense, all the Wr's would be happy and this would be a top 3 offense.

I agree 100 %. Mentor is a bad word. I thought about that but My point was there isnt anyone there to learn from. No qb ever wants to be a mentor, they want to continue to be a starter.
Rodgers and young both had elite skills, and I alluded to that in my previous post.

Give him time to learn? Why? He jumps in the air when he throws the ball. He pats and double clutches constantly. He's still back peddling. He's taking very high number of sacks. He still never throws the ball on time or on his 5th step. All this after 34 starts. He's not learned anything, he's getting worse. Garçon, Jackson and the o-line probably want to kill the guy by now. He's just not a very good QB and he handcuffs the offense. 100 passing yards with our wr's is laughable. Gruden knows he sucks. He sees him everyday. Only reason he starts against Indy is cause of Napoleon.

Think how hard it is in today's NFL to pass for 100 yards.

Yeah and I know our wr's and rb are not the problem. Our oline might be pretty terrible but yeah man....100 yards. That is tough to do. I do not watch or study these play breakdown sites, but Griff had to have missed a handful of wide open wr's.

I always felt that Rex was kept for the 2012 and 2013 seasons as a mentor. IMO the game has changed. The expectations is that a QB will learn through a few growing pains while starting this is not a Snyder issue it is the NFL norm. Also it is not to much to expect the 2nd overall pick to be playing like a perennial all pro.

Here is something to note. It's not the offensive line.

Sorry but that is one stat list that depending on circumstance can be 100% meaningless or misleading. Look at the top of that list most of those guys are
known as running QBs or highly mobile they are known for holding the ball longer than average believing they can extend plays, those same guys get sacked at a high rate. Look at who is at the bottom, human statue Peyton Manning who drops back to point X and either throws to the open man, throws a receiver open, or the ball away quickly as he knows his immobility gives him limited time. That list pretty much reflects the tendency of those on it not how good or bad the teams pass blocking is. Would you look at that list and say Denver's O-line should get an F grade in pass blocking? I would think not, it of course is the result of a stationary quick thinking quarterback.
