Re: Next years QB
I know all of you RGIII fams will say no, but I wonder if this starting QB proclamation is more about the draft and the possibility that QB Mariota might slip to #5 and we are sending out the obvious smoke signals that we would want to trade the #5 (QB Mariota) for multiple picks? So by saying we have our QB we do not want Mariota.?.?.
I think the timing of this announcement and it being screamed loud from all media is very draft related. Now all of you RGIII fans can tell me how wrong I am and RGIII is Gruden's (Snyder's) favorite. |
Re: Next years QB
We're not drafting MM. I think Gruden is trying to make the most of a bad situation. He's stuck with Griffin for at least one more year and really can't do much about it.
i always wondered how much truth the rumor had that shanny wanted to quit before the seahawks playoff game.
He says it's BS for what it's worth. |
Re: Next years QB
I think he was named the starter because you are better off having one named and getting the reps to develop. Plus this removes the media circus that would surround a competition. Trust me KC can still earn the job in the training camp and preseason

The reason I disagrees with you is because RG3 status as a starter has been a hot button issue since 2013 season. I believe if we wanted someone to pay the king's ransom for Mariota. I think it would make more sense for us to give the impression that might draft him. That's just the way I see it. |

Re: Next years QB
One thing nobody's mentioning and that's the casual way that Jay Gruden tends to answer questions. When he says we're going with Robert as the number one guy, I don't think that's intended as a firm commitment to RG3. I think it simply means that he will get the starter's reps in OTAs and minicamps, and then probably leading into training camp. But I don't think it means that Cousins is ruled out from having the opportunity to unseat Robert.
If Jay finds in training camp that Robert is still behind as a pocket passer and that Cousins looks better, I think he'll make the switch. I think it's a very non committal thing at this point, based on the fact that he hates Cousins's woe-is-me approach when he gets intercepted, so much that Robert is the best of a bunch of very shitty options.
Yeah I don't think it means much in the long run. Nothing is written in stone. People need to chill. |

I think this is exactly what he means. Just kill the drama/story prior to training camp and let Robert/Kirk duke it out for the starting position once TC begins. |

By simply naming RGIII the starter does not kill/deflate any unwanted "hot button" media attention. The unwanted attention will always be there.....if RGIII is given the starters position and continues to play like has the last two years the heat only will be tuned up. The only thing that will negate the unwanted "hot button" media attention you all are talking about is winning....and making the playoffs regardless of who our Qb is. So naming RGIII your starter in February does nothing. Do you feel better that he was named starter on February 18th? Will the media be less critical of RGIII? Which is why I float the idea that our new astute GM is posting the for sale sign in the front yard for the #5 pick because it could be MM a prized QB. Let the bidding/negotiations begin. |

Would anyone draft QB Jamarcus Winston at 5?

Yes - I think that is why Gruden came out and said RG3 is the starter. If MM falls to 5 we make the trade and pick up another draf pick or two. |
Re: Next years QB
Who wants to trade RG3 for Jay Cutler straight up?
