+1

A 2nd or a 3rd could be more than we'd get for him as a comp pick when he leaves in the offseason.

Hate to say it but we obviously aren't competing for a title this year, if they don't plan on resigning him time to sell to the highest bidder.
If this team were 0-7 maybe they would consider it, but they are still in it, and could be .500 by Sunday evening. I just don't see them trading him unless they are blown away with an offer. He's too important to this defense. I doubt they would be willing to roll with Allen, Wise, Ridgeway, Bada at DT.

WJ3 though, I could see them trading him since he's pretty much been benched, but I am not sure what you could get for him, or if he is actually hurt - which would complicate that idea.
Agreed. Let's not forget we already lost Ioannidis and Settle. I feel like we keep having this notion that we're not going to be able to keep all the talent we have at Dline... but at some point we're still gonna have to pay some guys !
I'd feel more comfortable losing Sweat than Payne at this point. Not a knock on Sweat at all, just that I like our depth at DE more than DT. Even with Obada being a nice surprise.
NFL Teams have expressed interest in trading for #Commanders DT Daron Payne.

The 6'3, 320 pound former 1st round pick from Alabama has 18 career sacks and people with knowledge of the market believe he could net a 2023 2nd Day Draft pick, according to
@BenStandig
The 49ers were one of those teams, I would resign him and Sweat, there should be $$$ money after they get rid of Wentz and Jackson. Throw in McCain too.

Wentz and Jackson, smh.... Wentz is the highest paid player and Jackson is possibly #3? Neither will see the field the rest of the year and the team could possibly improve. At least McCain doesn't cost a lot.

I guess former Patriot Asante Samuel agrees

I'd rather keep payne than trade him, we'll have more cap space than talent at the end of this year. If the team just doesn't see him in the plans, a 2nd is a pretty nice consolation prize.

The issue is it's hard to get good DL guys to come in FA to be depth/use for a solid rotation when they see how many high draft picks we have playing there. and I think having good starters and a bunch of good subs really helps wear out an OL over the course of a game. Press the advantage, as they say.

You could reasonably argue that none of the current top 4 players in cap hit this year and next(Wentz, Jackson, Samuel, Fuller) are producing to their contracts so far and none are under contract past next year so would need to be resigned or replaced. If you were able to trade Jackson now and cut the other three in the offseason you would save $60m on the cap next year. Quick and relatively painless way to get back in good cap shape going forward. You would obviously need to replace Fuller, but not the other three. Besides Payne and Sweat they need to make decisions on Curl and Holcomb this off season

The 49ers gave up a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th for an often hurt RB. How is Payne worth only a 2nd? He’s worth a lot more and having a solid year.

Teams aren't going to pay a premium price for a DT not named Donald.

A 2nd for Payne is probably the best you can hope for realistically.

I get the hate for Belicheck it's easy to do but Brady isn't as great without Belicheck either as is showing now. They are both TGOAT and while both are very dislikeable both are still GOAT.

I think that would a big win. Love the guy, but if he isn’t in the plans for the future move him now

Brady is 45 and has won a SB with TB. Belichick playoffs and one and out. Brady is still playing well despite his age and personal issues.

Belichick's teams haven't been close to elite post Brady. As mentioned, Brady has already won a SB without Belichick. So far, Brady over Belichick in this discussion.

Looking forward to the game tomorrow night Baltimore @ Tampa. Actually a decent Thursday game. Tampa really needs this W if they are going to get going this year. Jackson v. Brady is intriguing to me.

I've always hated the BB vs Brady argument.

Nobody wins anything on their own.
