Re: The Spitting Ejection
Like I said previously it isn't even about football. Its about a classless act from a Redskin. Do you think Joe was happy about it. NO. I guess if Joe came out and went off about it and said how wrong and ignorant it was, then you all would fall in line.
I think the fact that St Joe hasn't come out speaks volumes about how much of the situation involved class(or lack thereof) and how much involved the realization that this is everyday stuff in professional football. I also don't think Joe is ever going to come out against his own player for spitting on a scum bag wife beater. Maybe if he did something more aggressive but not for spitting. It's not like Taylor spit on Joe Montana or Jerry Rice. |
Re: The Spitting Ejection
Everything you mentioned your post, Sean Taylor was accused of, not guilty of.
That's only a minor detail. ;) |
Re: The Spitting Ejection
This thread is rediclous
Unfortunately being one who has posted probably 6 or 7 times on this I must reluctantly agree. We are discussing spitting. SPITTING. I guess we have nothing else to talk about right now. |

Agreed. If Taylor hadn't gotten ejected and put the team at risk last weekend, I wouldn't care one iota if he was spitting. What I take issue with is the holier than thou attitude of some people in this thread. Coming down on Sean Taylor for his DUI or his gun charge is just plain wrong and judgmental. The DUI charge was dismissed and the gun charge is still an ALLEGED INCIDENT, he has not been convicted. So for someone to lump this spitting incident in with those two events is presumptuous and judgmental. Anyone who still wants Taylor on their team, and still wants to pass judgment on what kind of guy he is because he spat on Pittman, you don't deserve to be rooting for him this weekend. |
Re: The Spitting Ejection
If you are right about this, 12thMan, then those people are extremely naive. Anyone who thinks dirty and nasty things aren't said and done every game, they've got their head in the clouds. Awful stuff happens at the bottom of the pile. At the bottom of piles, guys shove fingers in eyes, ears, noses, buttholes (no joke), they scratch, they pinch, they hit in the privates, and when they can they hit in the face. They call names and insult family members to provoke other players. All of this goes on in the game we all love. I hope all of us realize this, and I think we all do realize it.
And as long as you're still a fan of a game where this kind of thing knowingly goes on, you have no business getting bent out of shape about a loogie in someone's grill. IMO, spitting is mild compared to a thumb up my ass under a pile. Should all of the above be punished with a 15-yard penalty if caught by the ref? Yes. But nobody has any business being morally outraged by a loogie. I find that ridiculous.
That's why I said, I'm being presumptous. Perhaps some are being naive, but that's not mine to point out. Not about whether Sean's act was wrong, but whether it actually happens and goes on in the NFL. Would his act been any more wrong had it been hidden from public view and not drawn so much attention? |

Would his act been any more wrong had it been hidden from public view and not drawn so much attention?
Yeah it would be just as wrong. And because we all know that it goes on in the game we love so much, nobody should be shocked or appalled at Taylor's actions. PS I was supporting your point. |

Nor should we care much. It is part of the game. Love or leave it is what I say. I love it. Go Taylor! Do whatever you can as long as you can stay in the game. Don't put yourself in another position to get jacked. Put youself in position to take guys out of the game. |

And I think it's your sentiments, which I agree with by the way, that some are taking out of context. Taylor's reality and ours are different, especially on Sunday! |
Re: The Spitting Ejection
Has anybody stopped to think that maybe he "only" got fined 17k because the ref wasn't quite sure what he saw... after initial reaction?
NFL needed to impose some fine, maybe not so stiff because it was in retaliation? Just a thought... |
Re: The Spitting Ejection
....I maintain, if Pittman took a loogie or even a sprinkle he never bothered to wipe it off.

Re: The Spitting Ejection
I hate belaboring this dam issue but why is it that everyone is acting like this definitely happened? I am not talking about people here because I think we have discussed it enough that it is obvious that it is disputed whetehr he actually spit or not. I am talking about the news media. There has been very little about Taylor denying that it happened and all the sports writes/commentators just comment like they saw clear visual evidence. If one of these idiots commentators would say "you know what? I didn't see him spit on the other guy and he says he didn't so lets not immediately assume it happened" I would be probably crap my pants. These guys are a joke. At least this should be discussed. It shouldn't be totally assumed that this happened when it has been disputed by the person accused.

Exactly my point. Either learn to live with the nasty part of the game, or go watch golf. |

Agreed. Everyone kind of said "Mike Carey the ref is a very upstanding man." So all of a sudden that meant he was right?? Did he see something, or did he THINK he saw something? He may be an upstanding guy, but upstanding people are capable of mistakes too. |

Not true - the Fox redskins special discussed the incident in great detail and clearly showed Pittman wiping his lower face. |

If he did, he didn't wipe it before Carey threw the flag. He must have let the loogie sit on his face. Which I find quite odd. |

I think you're right...I believe they showed him wiping his face right after the flag was thrown. That loogie was on his face for a good 5-10 seconds. Pittman is a dirty f@cker! LOL |
Re: The Spitting Ejection
Just about everybody on the ESPN radio was of the same opinion. If somebody spits on you, your first reaction is probably to hit the guy but your next reaction is always to WIPE SOMEBODY'S SPIT FROM YOUR FACE. If you watch the replays, Pittman never wipes his face. So how did ST spit then? If he did n Pittman did'nt wipe his face he is one sick MF.
My 2 cents
like i said in the other thread ---- i honestly didn't see anything. I do however think it is was possible that while yelling a little bit of spit flew out his mouth. I just didin't see anything. You got to be a stone cold mother ****er to spit on someone and not even move. His head didn't jerk forward. Spit on something go ahead in anger. your head has to move. it has to. But Sean is one stonned cold mother ****er
|

i love sean taylor but come on guys, the ref was standing right there and i guarantee he saw it,why else would he call a penalty?guys are complaining about non calls all game long.if he didnt see it,he should be done refereeing playoff football.i thought the crew as a whole did a good job and let them play, for the most part

how many bad calls result from refs thinking they saw something that didn't happen or misconstrued(sp?) what really happened? I know I have an inherent distrust of the officials and what I've seen from the multitude of replays of the situation doesn't match what the ref supposedly saw so I have some doubts and will not throw Taylor under the proverbial bus especially when the people whose trust in this matter counts, his teammates and coaches, r taking him for his word. for once I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt. Plus it's all in the past now and what matters is what he does this week and with his level of play the last 2 weeks, I think we could be in for a show this weekend. GO SKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :point: :httr: :towel: :httr: |
Re: The Spitting Ejection
Why do people insist on confusing the real world with the football field? NFL players are not held responsible for playing by the rules the rest of us are. Deal with it.
I think it's disrespectful to call someone else's wife a whore, but I have no doubt that kind of stuff gets said across the line of scrimmage all day long. Spitting is no different than any other insult, and I dont think it means anything in the game of football. On the street is a totally different thing and what doesn't fly for you and me is completely irrelevant to the NFL.
Again I am amazed that you think spitting in someones face is the same as calling them or their wife a name. They are completely different. You are correct about the NFL not being the real world and things that get passed off as being aggressive on the field would be criminal acts on the street which is why we like sports. |

They might differ in magnitude but they do not differ in intent, unless your argument is about the sanitary issues relating to saliva. If you're arguing spit is dirty, we can have a whole different argument about how sanitary it is to play in the NFL. Otherwise, what we're talking about here is disrespecting someone. And someone saying they boned your slut-whore of a wife doggy style (and she liked it) is pretty disrespectful, wouldn't you say? That would make me pretty hot under the collar. Much as someone spitting at me would. |

You're delusional. Have you ever read any of the crap that Riggins got away with back in the "Golden Age" of Skins football? He used to get drunk in the clubhouse after practice and they'd find him passed out drunk in the locker room, pissing all over himself. You think an NFL head coach who's been around as long as Joe hasn't seen a LOT WORSE than this? :frusty: Joe Gibbs is a great, kind, inspiring person, and he doesn't care for vulgarity and that sort of thing. But he's also a good judge of character and he hates to lose. Do you think he'd come out and say all the POSITIVE things he said about Sean Taylor after the game if he believed Taylor was as bunch of a piece of crap as YOU seem to think he is? Maybe Taylor told him what Pittman had said to him which made him spit. Maybe he told Gibbs he didn't spit at all. So given that Gibbs defended Taylor's behavior this year as a good kid and didn't disparage him, maybe YOU should be the one falling in line instead of looking to crucify one of the best players on the team you claim to love. |

How many times have you watched a basketball game and a guy takes a swing at another player, the other guy takes offense and swings back. The ref sees only the second guy swing, and ejects him? Happens all the time. As others have said, I think the 17k fine, plus the lack of a fire and brimstone press release tells me they really didn't see anything blatant other than Pittman taking a swing. |
Re: The Spitting Ejection
Did anyone just see Sounds of the Game on NFL Network??
They showed a great angle of the incident and it's pretty clear, you can see spit coming from Taylor and in fact it almost hit the ref. Case closed. |

Yeah it looks like a lame spit job by Taylor, but the point is something very clearly came out of his mask. |

Whatever. If he hacked loogie, he hacked loogie. Just please, everyone spare us all the moral lectures. That way, if you're not casting stones at Sean Taylor, you might be able to forgive him, and that will probably make it a lot more fun to root for him this weekend.
