Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
This has probably been mentioned, but what about bringing Charley Casserly back?
He still does Redskins analysis for Comcast so he can't hate the team all that much for letting him go. Plus, his last draft with Houston looks pretty good after 2 seasons.
Good call. |
Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
God this sucks. I really wanted him to come back next year because if we get a new head coach that wasn't with the team last year (And even though I'd really like to see one of our coordinators get the job I know Snyder might renege on his promise to G-Will and look for someone else) that guy might not know how to handle this team after what we've gone through. I understand that that is what Joe wants to do though and I wish him the best, after what we've gone through this season I can understand him wanting to retire.

I'm sure Irish creamed himself when he woke up this morning and realized Gibbs bowed out.

I feel like Gibbs is hinting in his press conference that this will stay internal. |
Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
I can't even begin to imagine what Offiss is doing right now. I think it involves ready-whip, a number 11 away Ramsey jersey, and a car battery

he definitely gave the impression that he'll be around so long as Snyder seeks his advice and he's not stepping on the toes of the new head coach. This alone is great for continuity. Gibbs will support whoever replaces him, and will help ease the difficulty of transition, should anyone but Williams get the nod. |
Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
.......stupid family. Why can't Gibbs be a classless bastard like all the other coaches in the world who couldn't give two shits about their family? Why do we have to have a great coach with morals? Today I hate morals.

Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
Sad, sad day in Redskins history. It will be strange to see someone else on the sidelines. I listened to the press conference on the way home from work, I got a little choked up. I kept looking for Redskins emblems on other cars to see how those fans were reacting. I am broken hearted over this. Best of luck Joe, you are loved and will be deeply missed. :(:(:(

Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
Come on guys, what did you expect? When he met with Snyder about his future you knew something like this could be in the offing. This season had to be totally draining to him. An underachieving team in the beginning and middle of the season, then the double timeout fiasco, then right after that the worst thing of all, Sean's murder. Top it all off, his 2 year old grandson has leukemia and has an uphill battle to survive. Sorry, if I was Gibbs I would walk away also. Coaching itself with all that pressure is draining, pile the rest of the stuff on and shoot I would say game over also. It is sad he is going, but I for one thought he was gone after next season anyway. The franchise isn't going to take a dive from this. We were going to have to let Coach go soon, we just have to deal with it being sooner than later.

Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
He is still with the team as a special advisor to Dan Snyder, but I'm sad to not see him as coach anymore. No coach can replace Joe Gibbs. He is like the heart of the organization. The best coach in Redskins history. I'm sad to see him go.

Re: Gibbs to Resign as HC/President
What about a new team president?
If we don't hire someone else will all the personnel decisions fall on the shoulders of Danny and Vinny, with the new HC making some suggestions here and there? That's a thought that scares the hell out of me.
Al and Gregg already made a majority of the personnel decisions under Gibbs. I really don't think anything is going to change. I think Williams will be named the next coach, and Saunders will keep his position. I think Blache gets to call the defensive plays. Joe built this coaching staff to be structurally sound once he left. I don't think one thing is going to change this offseason. Now, if the team regresses massively next season, there could be total chaos and upheaval. For right now though, things should stay the same. |

I think you summed up my sentiments about Coach Gibbs and his reasons for stepping down. I love Coach Gibbs and will remember how his presence was felt on his second return. However, it was time. After a close defeat, Coach Gibbs always sounded depressed and drained from the loss. It's time to get a Coach with wisdom, knowledge of the NFC east and of course able to beat the shit out of Dallas! |
