Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Let's put it this way. If Snyder and Cerrato decided that they want to go after Sanchez why would they tell a single other person about it?
They wouldn't. It's just bad business revealing your hand like that. Snyder is a smart businessman. As the de facto GM all these years not so much.
You're right that it doesn't make sense. However, they made it known that they wanted Cutler when it made no sense to, thus risking any long term future with Campbell regardless of how he does this season. In both cases, I don't know if it's something that Snyerrato did on purpose or if it was leaked, but either way it doesn't really help them unless its a bluff to try to get someone like the Jets to trade down for the pick. Then again, this whole thing is starting to remind me of a couple of years ago when everyone thought that Snyder had a man-crush on JeMarcus Russel and that he was preparing to trade up to the top spot to get him. At that time the team just said they were doing their due diligence, which may also be the case now with Sanchez. |

Most stuff leaks well before there is an 'official statement' on it. I certainly questioned the reports that they would go after Haynesworth, although they did a good job of keeping that one a secret until the few days before free agency. Since they have this rep. they are in a perfect position to put up a smoke screen (hopefully not a "cheech & chong smoke screen" as Dirtbag said!). I hope that's the case |

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Still nothing from Florio. While I hate him, he's come to signify the black cat to gloom & doom news about the Redskins. If the team is indeed going after Sanchez, he would have posted this all over his site (among other hateful stuff).

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
I guess you can look at it a couple of ways. Either they are not happy and are wanting Sanchez if he fall to them to be the future of the team a long with Colt or Someone leaked the info in hopes it scares some of the other teams that need a QB and want Sanchez and makes them want to call DS prior to the draft in hopes of working out a deal/trade. Perhaps trading players or trading draft picks giving us more picks. I tend to lean towards the latter.

I really hope this is the case, it's just that with the whole Cutler deal, I've become very paranoid about DS' tantrums. |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
I dont think this pick in any way would mean that Zorn is on his way out. He is the perfect west coast offense quarterback. If you watch USC you will see they run a west coast offense and Sanchez is well suited for it. Also, to anyone who thinks Campbell still deserves a chance, this will probably allow him to play this year. If he shows that he is a star then we should be able to sign him. If nothing else we could trade Sanchez if we are stuck with two superstar Quarterbacks. This way is better than the Cutler trade for Campbell lovers, because if we got Cutler JC was history for sure.
|
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
At this point I'm having a hard time imagining that Campbell will re-sign with us even if we don't draft Sanchez. I think he'll play as hard and as well as he can and then he'll get the hell out of Dodge.
Basically, he'll do what what Cutler should have done - keep his mouth shut, play the best he can, and earn the right to decide where he wants to go. |

Very logical approach. We could even franchise JC after the season. However, that kind of approach makes more sense for a team w/some depth & a no. of picks to play with, e.g. San Diego when they drafted Rivers & already had Brees. If neither guy looks good in 09, then you have very little trade value & you've already used 2 1st round picks on 2 qb's within 4 years. For the skins that approach is so much more of a gamble, because they have other major needs w/few picks & little salary cap space. I know 2010 might be uncapped, but for the time being they're in a postion of really needing immediate starters from the draft. |

Like I said in the other Sanchez thread. I don't see any of them available when we pick due to , to many teams needing QB's. however if we did pick him I see him sitting on the bench learning the offense atleast for the first yr. Meaning Campbell will play getting to show if he's worth another contract. What better way to make other teams scared that your looking at a QB they want then to get involved in a QB trade talk and making sure it falls through due to a horrible offer. It screams of DS trying to make other teams believe we are not happy with JC and are looking for something else to make the other teams want to possibly give us better trade value when #13 comes up. If the other teams think we want him they would have to offer something substantial to sway us out of picking him and trading with the team so they can move up and take him. Hmmm. Sounds like DS. I bet the talk with JC was all about this posturing and how he had to put on the act as well. |

Remember, all the reports said that the Skins made an offer that was similar to the Bears' but McDaniels didn't want Campbell as his QB. EDIT - Maybe it's a quasi-abusive way of getting Campbell to sign a new contract on the cheap. They say "listen Jason, we were going to trade you but no one wanted you. We still believe in you even if no one else does. Since this deal and we can still make you a good player. I'm sort of kidding, but part of me is afraid that this could be how the FO really thinks. |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
If we're going to go after Sanchez then we might as well just cut bait with Campbell now (and we better stock up on more first day picks). Too bad this isn't like the NBA where you'll see something like Campbell, Moss, and Golston all traded in one deal for multiple picks and/or players.
I don't know how much true interest we have in Sanchez, to the extent that we would trade up to get him. For everyone upset we lost our 2nd rounder to the Dolphins maybe we should be happy we don't have it right now to use in a trade up for Sanchez. We definitely like those USC guys overall though. I worry though that some of the "deciders" in the organization, believe they can magically recreate a Matt Ryan season with Sanchez. I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see us use/waste? a 2010 first day pick to trade up to make sure we get...someone other than Sanchez. Plus we have Colt! |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
I really think this is just some buzz to generate interest in trading down... if we take Sanchez, I really am going to lose all hope for this front office. Its not like its a can't miss guy like Peyton Manning or something... this guy is a project too, just like Jason Campbell.... forgetting for a second that we have about a million other holes on the team, if we drafted Sanchez, it would only be 2 years before we said F--- it with him and drafted another guy....
Rumors like this should just be dismissed...but because were the Redskins... hey, Ya never know... |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
I agree. If we take Sanchez at 13 this front office is hopeless. They have no plan on building a team by degrees. I am quickly losing interest in football and I think it is mainly because of potential moves like this one. There is no coherent plan for this team. They are not grounded with any principles and just go willy nilly trying to build a team. They will not be successful with that approach. I thought they may have learned that but no.
|
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Why waste a pick on Sanchez? Get something that you really need, like a LB, OL or PR. Next year is the year of the QB's, not this year. C'mon FO.

Two years ago, many people on this board were freaking out, saying we already had Sean Taylor, when reports came out about this time saying the Skins were going to draft Laron Landry. And last year about this time, even more people were freaking out, saying we've already got Anthony Mix, when reports came out saying the Skins were high on Malcolm Kelly. We all know how that turned out. Face it. We'll most likely trade up to get Mark Sanchez. Hopefully, we can trade JC, so it at least makes some sense. |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Have we worked out any other QB's? No. You'd think that if we wanted a qb we'd do due diligence and work out several of them.
We've only worked out the ONE qb who MIGHT be available at 13. The more I think about it, the more I see a smokescreen or due diligence for a trade down. |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
A draft with Sanchez in the first and Toler in the third would be a disaster. Of course I can see the press conference now.
"Vinny how come you didn't draft any O-Lineman." "Well we got Derrick, so I'd say we improved the O-Line." "So you basically made sure that the position last year that saw the best play was just as good this year if not better then last year?" "Yes, and now we have more skinny guys. Besides you don't want to many of those fat guys, they'll make your health insurance premiums go through the roof." "What about Albert Haynesworth?" "He's so rich now he can start his own health insurance company":doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh::doh: "Some people say that you only care about drafting skill positions what do you say to that" "Absoulutley not we looked at all these guys that weren't very skilled......like me" "Yes Vinny but you don't ever draft them." "We're....just waiting for the......the one." "What are you reading Cosmo or something." "Maybe" |

I think we're going running back in the 3rd round, just a gut feeling

I take it you'd like Javon Ringer in the third? I wouldn't mind drafting a guy like Jeremiah Johnson or Devin Moore with our fifth round pick. |

any one in particular? |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
To be honest I'm not totally opposed to taking Sanchez, but to take a DB or RB in the 3rd round as well would just be overkill. At the very least if they had signed Ray Willis none of this would have been a problem. Right now though their best option if they choose not to draft a Tackle is to sign Kwame Harris and hope like hell that he can be developed.

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
There is only one intelligent draft strategy for the Washington Redskins:
1) use every draft pick to re-draft Colt Brennan, just for emphasis 2) cut everyone else and start Colt at every position. He's proven himself. 3) rename the team to "The Washington Colt Brennans" Any other strategy would be pure folly. |

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Sanchez has to be a smokescreen. I mean our FO can't really be that stupid could they?
I think he will be a fine QB, but like most QB's it's gonna take a few years to even get to JC's current level. I think he would be nice value at #13, but just not a good fit in any way for this team considering our needs. And if we trade up to get him??...that would be INSANE! We have too many other needs and not enough picks to consider taking any QB in this draft. Now if they traded JC to the Jets for #17 or Lions at #20 I might think about Sanchez at #13, but that is highly unlikely. We have to get a RT, SLB and hopefully a DE somehow out of this draft. Not to change the subject but if Raji fell to #13..should the skins take him? Slide Big Al to DE and our DL would be straight! |

Instead I'd trade one of our other DT's and just be badass up the middle on D. |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Well Id like Al at DE on 1st and 2nd down with Raji, Griffin, and AC. Rotate Golston, Monty,
Daniels with Jackson and Wilson at rush DE. We got to move Al around like Reggie White. Make it more difficult for teams to game plan for him. |
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
I think it was Merrill Hodge who said if Haynesworth decided to play DE, he'd automatically become the best DE in the NFL. If Blache is smart he'll move him around a little.
|
Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
I think we have to play Big AL at DE. We have plenty of DT's, and there is nobody worthy of the #13 pick at DE. AND nobody on the roster who gives us anything at DE other than AC and maybe Daniels IF he is healthy. It's not like Big Al wouldn't be effective there.

Been thinking the same thing bro...part of the reason I think DE is a reach for us @ 13. I mean if Monty plays up to his potential (hoping Al has something to do w/ that) we're already better in the interior...kick Al out to LDE and let him collapse the pocket in about half a second cuz now way a TE/OT double team will stop him. |

Re: Mark Sanchez at 13th?
Yeah Raji and AH!! Just remember the skins were interested in Raji a lot before they signed AH. It would not surprise me at all if he slides to us if we take him. Our line would turn from a weakness into a dominating DL and we need a big physical line in the EAST for Jacobs and Barber.
