so i guess it's just preseason, so it doesn't matter that Campbell is still struggling even though he has a decent line and protection in front of him. It's just preseason and the wins and loses don't matter, but the performances still do.
Can you be specifc as to JC struggles so far this preseason? Has he been terribly inaccurate? Has he throw INTs? Maybe held the ball too long and taken a few sacks? Please, enlighten me as to how JC has struggled so bad in such a short period of time because I fail to see it. You must know something that I don't.

Before last week (with Favre signing) I wouldve thrown in Tavaris Jackson, Jamarcus Russell, whomever is starting for TB, Detroit Lions Starter...
On the contrary, he's had more than just these 13 passes to analyze. These 13 passes were just an opportunity for him to prove the judgments on him were wrong (that were made before the preseason began).
You can't prove anything to anyone with only 13 passes. More are required.

I think it's obvious. He's had what - 5 series. Not enough to predict an entire season for him, but enough to try to disprove all of the lack of confidence that his own personnel people have. It's his job to prove people wrong and so far not a job so far.

throw in Trent Edwards and SF starter and the others I named and that's the company Campbell is in.

... just imagine brady for instance having a dismal showing like this in his first preseason games back. There would some worries that he might not perform like he used to. Those worries are there for me with campbell, but with campbell - he hasn't performed at a high enough level to even give him the benefit of doubt yet.

Sanchez/Clemens from NYJ, Quinn/Anderson for Cleveland, Edwards in Buff are all worse tha JC. I could keep going but I just dont wanna. There is no way in hell Campbell is that far down the list. Maybe middle of the pack but certainly not bottom 5.

3 points in 2 games.
QB rating in the 40's.
overthrew Moss,Hagans.
underthrew Kelly ball hit Troy P in the hands, close to a int.

If JC wants to prove the FO and the non JC supporters wrong, this isnt the way to do it. He better get off his arse this week or it could get ugly.

Tell me what has he accomplished or PROVED to us in these 2 games so far. Nothing except that the redskins might have been right to try to get another starting qb.

Re: "Jason Campbell struggles against the Steelers"

My attitude is - that when you get a chance to play whether it be in a scrimmage, preseason, regular season, or playoff game - you play and perform your best. If everyone is saying that this isn't his best, then why the hell is he not playing his best? Everyone is watching and evaluating his performance. And if it is his best - obviously he isn't good enough. He's made mistakes that good qbs don't make, especially the inaccuracy.

He wasn't waitng for someone to come open, he was anticipating it and being very quick in the pocket. If things broke down he used his legs and I think that is good. He hasn't taken a sack and hasn't turned the ball over. Again, not great but not worthless as you would make it sound.

Re: "Jason Campbell struggles against the Steelers"

Zorn is publicly stating that he's satisfied with Campbell and his decision making, but deep down I think Zorn would prefer another QB. I know I would. And I hope I have to eat these words. I think Campbell has lost so much confidence now after Vinny and Danny went through their antics about getting Cutler or Sanchez and he'll never recover here.

DBUCHANON101 08-24-2009 03:51 PM

Re: "Jason Campbell struggles against the Steelers"

Im not going to speculate where he is rated among the other 31 starters. But the fact that we couldnt trade him makes you wonder how he is viewed by the other GM's in the league. Cutler says 'I want a trade' 13 GM's from other teams are lined up outside the door--including ours--. DS tries to trade JC, teams with QB woes like TB-NYJ-SF and Min -at the time- say no thanks we will take our chances with what we have or take what we can find in the draft. And after all of this you hear at practice how well he is doing and he is taking charge.. well through 2 games he looks like the same ol JC. We will see this week when he has a half of football to show what he can do.

I think some people have hard a time separating "not great" from "he's worthless and needs to be kicked to the curb with tomorrow's garbage"

But I think pressure to perform is good, it either makes you focus and get better or you just let it break you down completely. This doesn't bode well so far for him. It's just been 2 preseason games, but there's only 2 - 3 games left and there was a whole offseason before this to get focused to get better at his weaknesses at the very least and stronger in his strengths.

I think it was obvious that the redskins were saying that they wanted to get better at the qb position in one way or another. At this point, it doesn't appear that way.

ran 3 in a row with starters. JC can move, why not try a rollout?

ok,time for practice.
I think it's defensible trying to convert a 3rd and 2 from the 3 yard line because he barely needs a positive result to get a fresh set of downs. Betts might actually have gotten to the sticks on the second down run, in which case, the one yard loss simply gives a 2nd and goal at the two.

I think that if you are going to run it twice, you should be able to run it three times, but I guess you have to get the kicker into the game sometime.

Take a play, any passing play from the Zorn era, and break it down for me on what Campbell didn't do to show you. If you've actually seen enough Campbell to draw any conclusions, this is a very simple exercise.

And..go.

You guys are the ones that's downplaying 2 dismal preseason games after knowing that Campbell's under a microscope. I'm sick of seeing the defense of yet another good-guy redskins qb that might be good (just wait until next week).

Zorn stinks at calling plays IMO. It's the freakin pre season and he's running the damn ball which wasn't the problem last year. I'd be throwing it almost every down.

To judge him by what happens in the preseason is to judge you as a person using only posts in this thread.

So if he comes out in week 1 and has a meh day, no one can point to the preseason and say, "look it's a trend". You still have to base his performance off a string of a regular season games. How long of a string? Depends on how it goes. 7 straight positive value games last year, and you focused on the very next two when coming to a conclusion on him. See?

I'm excited about JC this year. He might crash and burn, but I think he has a great chance to take the next step. He has some limitations, but he also has plenty of strengths. If the WR corps takes a positive step forward I like his chances even more.

He needs to prove something to everyone. Most of all to the people that he works for. A preseason game is still a game. There's no excuse, I am assuming that he was trying to play at his absolute best. And was below average while trying. He didn't make fatal mistakes, but he didn't make any plays either.

Well, with guys like Dockery, Bridges, Rinehart expected to get playing time they didn't get last year it's important I think to get them some reps run blocking.

Still, it's a fine line in the preseason between just tossing plays out there and trying to simulate regular season offensive scenarios.

Despite your prior assertion that you're also considering past play, you seem to be a slave to the idea of a "clean slate" in this presason. Campbell has no more to prove than anyone else on the roster, and can only do so much before getting an entire game to play.

Honestly though, even if you judged him by just what you saw in the preseason, the results would be mixed, and you'd want to see more of him. By writing him off, you're showing some degree of non-objectivity.
