Thanks for the quote. I'm sure alot of people here didnt know that Rock Cartwright played 4 positions on special teams. I figured I'd piggy back off your post and share some other facts that some of you may not know about Rock Cartwright:
•When Rock Cartwright does a pushup, he isn’t lifting himself up, he’s pushing the Earth down. •Rock Cartwright is so fast, he can run around the world and round kick himself in the back of the head. •182,000 Americans die from Rock Cartwright-related accidents every year. •Rock Cartwright can kill two stones with one bird •There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Rock Cartwright has allowed to live.
:laughing2 |

Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
Just throwing this out there....Rock is the KR. If he partakes in kickoffs I wouldn't know it cause someone else made all the tackles last yr mostly Thomas and a LB but I forget who. Rock does not partake in PR or atleast he's not significant cause he's not the runner, but if he's blocking then you can't tell me someone else can't block....they are football players. As for Punting I think he has been the last man back prior to the kicker setting up as a blocker ....I can understand that.
I asked once and will again. Can anyone show like a layout of who plays on special teams and their position they play and any back ups to those players?
I would like to see that also. I was actually trying to google it and ran across an article that I had missed before about who leads the team in ST tackles and players mentioned on special teams. Seems that Khary Campbell was the top tackler 4 years straight. Which puzzles me because some people argue we should keep people because of special team needs only. He also played on defense not just one unit. But the leading tackler got cut. Notice the title of this article. In other news, Vick has been cleared to play in week 3. Our first game with Filthy is week 7.

Thats excellent news! By week 7, McNabb and Westbrook should both be hurt and Vick will have been suspended again for some sort of thuggery. Our #1 defense will be facing Kevin Kolb and no running game. I predict over half the Filthy fans leave the stadium by half-time; while the other half commit the largest group ritual suicide in history. |

Well hopefully this gives the Skins 4 games to see how the Eagles are trying to use him so we can game plan. |
Man I was pulling really hard for Javon Ringer pre-draft, and was really annoyed when we took Glenn. I'll be even more annoyed when Glenn gets cut. Given Jonathan Stewart's health right now, I wouldn't be surprised to see Ringer see some time in Carolina. He's a burner with nice strength and would have made sense with our 5th pick. If Marko pans out, I guess I can forgive Vinny.
Yeah, I saw the preseason game (vs Giants was it) and I was trying to remember who mentioned the name Javon Ringer in the draft forums. I guess it was you but he is exactly the type of back we are looking for, a scat back that can threaten to score 6 every time he touches the ball. |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
Don't want to open a can of worms any further, so let's just consider this post "read-only".
First: The whole argument about somebody being one dimensional is useless. Damn near everyone on the team is one dimensional: JC, most linemen, the WRs, punter, kicker, deep snapper, Clinton Portis, etc, etc. Rock Cartright is one of the few players we have that is *not* one dimensional -- he plays several positions, and I don't care if they're all on ST. Special teams is *very* important. Add to that the fact that he's pretty good at the positions he plays and that makes him a valuable player. Second: We can't just put anyone on ST -- the injury risk is too high. Moss returning punts would be great, until he gets injured. Then our passing game falls apart, and with that so does our offense. Our season would basically be over. Believe it. Third: I wouldn't be surprised at all if Rock was overlooked as a RB injury replacement *because* of his value on ST. Bottom line is: Rock plays special teams. That is his position on this team, and he does it well. Sure he's not a world-beater, but he's above average. Let's not get greedy. |

Good he'll be our new Roy Williams especially with his chronic case of Fumbleitis. Also if Montgomery becomes a surprise cut does that mean that Dixon gets his spot? |

Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
Wow.....Matich had a paragraph long question for Blache this week. :)
Lose Buzbee....keep Jackson. |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
Jarmon should be a lock judging from Blaches postgame comments
|
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
Jarmon is a lock man! Id much rather keep Jackson than Wynn too!
|
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
I have to say -- I have absolutely no preference between Aldridge, Dorsey, or Mason.
As a matter of fact, Aldridge and Dorsey look like carbon copies of each other. |

I (Reed Doughty) told you I'd make the squad byatches!

I like Reed, glad to see him played well. He's part of my All-Hate Team...players that some fans hate with a passion... Reed Doughty Rock Cartwright Jason Campbell Justin Tryon DeAngelo Hall I'm sure I'm forgetting someone. |

Except Alridge had fumble-itis all camp long and if you add that clown shoes ball in the wrong arm knocked on his ass like a rag doll garbage fumble tonight I would say it's a problem. |

Oh yeah, if Alridge has the dropsies then you gotta go with Dorsey or Mason. But just in terms of their build -- they could be the same dude for all I know. |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
Anyone catch the fact that Blache said Jarmon, Doughty and C. Wilson will make the team?
K. Johnson asked him something about who stepped up and he replied that Wilson had but that Wilson "already had a ticket on the boat". He made similar comments were made about Jarmon and Doughty. |

I was thinking Reed was a lock to begin with. Jarmon cost a third, so he'd better make the team. Chris Wilson was up in the air from my perspective, but I'm just a bloke typing about a team on my PC. |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
As for the whole Rock v. Mason/Aldridge/Dorsey.
Rock certainly is susceptable to being cut but, IMO, no one has really stepped up and shown they would be an improvement to his overall contributions to the team. It's not that Rock is stellar, its that all those vying for his spot are equally mundane and don't fill all the other roles that Rock does. My gut is that we go with CP, LB and Rock & Aldridge or Dorsey. To me, Mason = Kenny Watson. |

As for Doughty, I've always thought the safety positions were basically set. I wasn't so sure about Wilson, though. Tonight he definitely shined. Still scratching my head on who the LBs are going to be after Blades at #4. |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
Blache said he went into the game looking at 3 or 4 players but that during the game another played poorly enough to cause him to question whether the person should make the team. He didn't identify the 3 or 4 he was originally looking at nor the one who played so poorly as to cause Blache to question his original assessment.
Any guesses as to who was on the bubble before tonight in Blache's mind and who joined them? |

Renaldo Wynn could go either way, but he hasn't shown much this preseason. Looks like the secondary is basically locked up. Barnes and Tryon will probably stay. But I'd say the real competition is for the 5th, 6th, and 7th linebacker spots (assuming they keep 7). |

Henson was all over the place but he also got a 15 yard penalty and got beat by a RB coming out of the BF. I heard Blache talk about Wilson. I think he's shown he can get to the QB. Tough call on the rest. |

Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
This is my guess of some of who will get cut:
Wynn (did he even play during pre-season?) Alridge (fumble in KO sealed his fate) Westbrook (toast) Henson Rayner (victim of the numbers game) Buzbee or Jackson (one of them will make it) I would cut Randle-El if he wasn't going to affect the cap, he drops too many balls and punt returns are no longer his forte. Mitchell is a lock and either Dorsey or Mason could be a surprise in making the team. Shit, the way Mitchell has played I would make him my #2 receiver. |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
I personally haven't heard about Montgomery being on the bubble. Just that Golston the top DT backing up AH and Griff and that Blache has been heaping a lot of praise on Alexander this summer...all of which presumes that Montgomery is on the bubble. And he very well may be, but I would think he makes it.
As I said last night, I suspect Moore could be a roster cut (or practice squad I suppose). |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
I've been promoting the idea of keeping Alridge but I think he cut himself last night. To me, all things considered, Rock earned the #3 RB spot.
I think the Skins need to keep Dorsey for PR/KR purposes. We need some explosiveness there. I makes no sense whatsoever to keep Wynn over a younger player because Wynn didn't outshine anybody in preseason, he has no upside, he doesn't play ST, and, frankly, he's probably just about done in the NFL. Cutting Montgomery would be ridiculous. He has size and ability. He wouldn't be the only unhappy player on an NFL roster. In fact, it might do him some good to be pissed off if it motivates him to work harder. The final few roster competitions are close enough to call that the Skins should give the nod to the better ST player in every case. |

Well, I think Moore is borderline. Holmes could always be put on the practice squad. And activated if Moore can't stay healthy. Would be surprised if both make the active roster. If that were to happen, some other position has to be reduced and I don't see where that would be. |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
I said it in the "who makes the 53" thread ....I was not impressed with anyone on the team last night. I know I'm being super critical and over exagerating it a bit. I putting my hopes in the fact that the team played vinella so the regular season teams would not have film to look at and I'm talking on both sides of the ball.
As said in the other thread also....I am a Mason fanatic but even he didn't impress me last night. What I see happening, Portis, Betts, Rock and Alridge with Dorsey maybe on practice squad. I just don't see how Alridge will take a whole season of pounding so I'm guessing Dorsey will be back up in case of injuries or vise versa. As much as I want Collins gone the two young guns have a lot to learn. I can see; JC, Collins, Colt and Chase on practice squad. Question: If a player gets cut but is most likely going to the practice squad or the team has told them that and another team tries to pick them up off wavers can the player themselves have a choice or do they have to go to the team that claims them? In other words if Chase was cut and the team told him they were going to put him on PS and the Bronco's decide to claim him can he say no thank you or does he have to go to the Bronco's? |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
Also keep in mind.....on the Radio and I think Redskins Nation Cerrato said there will be atleast one suprise cut. Zorn apparently said the same thing when interviewed. The million dollar question is who is the suprise cut?
Did they say surprise cut? Or just surprise?
I'm being conservative but I'm almost positive they said suprise cut and I want to say Zorn said possibly two suprise cuts which is why I'm using the term atleast one like Cerrato said. |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
I see what your saying...I found his interview with a reporter where he said this:
In an effort to keep everyone from submitting the same ballot, Cerrato said there would probably be a surprise. but the radio announcers I believe 106.7 with Arrington was talking about who the suprise cut would be that Cerrato was talking about ...I assumed the interview was with them cause they then said they interviewed Zorn and he said the same thing. |
Re: Vinny tips his hand on the final 53
I don't think they played the Cerrato interview, they were just talking about it, my short term memory is killing me. LOL. but I'm pretty sure they played the Zorn excerpt and I was suprised he said what he said then the announcers talked about it for like 5 min. and went to a commercial.
