Being that I group him with the Jerry Jones and Al Davis types, I hear from them all the time. With someone who is so involved with the running of football operations, I think his policy of not speaking to the media should change. I think the man owes an explination and at least to acknowledge the displeasure. Until then he is hiding like a coward. |

I can't remember hearing from Davis since they let Kiffin go. I don't think there's really anything to gain from Snyder speaking to the media. It would just be "why doesn't he shut up and stay out of it. Just sign the damn checks Danny Boy!!!" But I suppose people would be happier if he named himself General Manager and had a weekly radio show a la Jerry Jones? |
Just saw the interviews on Fox 5 News....Great Stuff!!! This IS going to have an effect. Having known the man, I can say that DS is definitely going hurt from this. Keep the pressure on
So the goal is to hurt DS. And what will hurting a petty(by most accounts) man accomplish. mImpetert was upfront in an early response to me, and I respect that, but anybody - even if you knew the man - that thinks this can have a positive end result really doesn't understand human nature. Petty people, when called to task or embarrassed, tend to react with negative and more harsh behavior. So far DS has done just that. If it goes on, and certainly the media - who for the most part hate DS - will do everything they can to make sure that the embarrassment and criticism of DS continues, then DS' actions are only going to display more of his reactive nature. This is not a good thing for the Skins organization. I make no apologies for him, I wish he were a different man, but he is the owner of my favorite team. If I want my team to: a- remain in dc b- get better c- stop this insanity then I have to look at reality, and reality says Snyder will not only not sell the Skins due to something like this, but also will respond in kind, thus damaging the one thing in this process that I care about - the Skins. Sanity > pettiness from any side. |

What is the difference between scrutiny and pettiness? Is all scrutiny petty?

Plus the way things are going on with Zorn, all the stadium issues...... he's pretty much hated right now by the fan base. The perception is all he does is hide behind Vinny. No one is saying he has to do a radio show and name himself GM, but he should come out and say something possitive to the fans. |
Re: Sell OUR Team Danny Boy - DC Metro Bus Ads
What is the difference between scrutiny and pettiness? Is all scrutiny petty?
Not at all. Scrutiny would be looking at the moves of the past, and making criticisms - preferably constructive. Movements like FireDanSnyder, or sellOURteamDannyBoy, in which the comments are both personal, and the actions are impossible/highly unlikely fall into pettiness. NO ONE, not mImpetert or mImdub, or anyone else with any level of rational thinking believes DS will sell the Redskins in his lifetime. He would more likely move than to give them up, and if he really wanted to be petty (which he would) he could make another team moving here very difficult. Again, he has not reached a no ego stage, and is petty. or in terms of definitions: Scrutiny: n., pl., -nies. 1. A close, careful examination or study. 2. Close observation; surveillance. vs. pet·ty (pt) adj. pet·ti·er, pet·ti·est 1. Of small importance; trivial: a petty grievance. 2. Marked by narrowness of mind, ideas, or views. 3. Marked by meanness or lack of generosity, especially in trifling matters. 4. Secondary in importance or rank; subordinate. See Synonyms at trivial. 5. Law Variant of petit. |

Re: Sell OUR Team Danny Boy - DC Metro Bus Ads
i havent read many comments in this thread to know what the general consensus is, but i think the whole idea for this campaign is completely stupid, other than the fact that some proceeds are donated to charity. 10 bus ads? really? THAT's going to make any kind of difference? DUMB. Oh, and "Sell OUR Team Danny Boy" is a completely retarded slogan. Whoever came up with it is a moron.

Re: Sell OUR Team Danny Boy - DC Metro Bus Ads
I actually think this is pretty cool.
I also think that in his twisted, naive mind, Snyder thinks that his moves have been good, and that everyone else is to blame, a la Norv Turner. Maybe this will wake him up a tad bit, and know that there is indeed discourse and distaste for his and his FO's moves the past 7-8 years. Fans do have a voice, and its neat to see some of em expressing their love and concern for this franchise in this way. Good Luck guys, I would give some money, but as a single dad with 2 kids, the army doesnt pay E6's that much. Wish I could pitch in 20 bucks tho........again, good luck! |

At least they're doing something about it. It's there time and effort. I haven't donated money (cause I'm a poor college student) but I do respect the pains they're going through to show that they care. It's easy to sit there and bitch and point out why it's dumb to try, blah blah. But it's something. Which is a whole lot better than nothing. Sometimes progress can be made by just making the tiniest ripple in the system. "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" Even if I don't think it'll work, I at least respect that they're upholding that mindset. More power to ya, mlmp and crew. :) |

Re: Sell OUR Team Danny Boy - DC Metro Bus Ads
What exactly is the cause? Is it to get Dan to sell the team; or is the subtext that we just want our other demands met, i.e. fire Vinny Cerrato?
If you or any of us think for one second that a man is going to sell one of the most profitable organizations on earth, then we have lost our stinkin minds. No matter how much we bitch, moan, or put billboard signs up he is not ever actually going to sell the team. Now if we believe that we can be negotiated with and we are just setting the bar high by saying "Danny, we want you to sell the team" when we are actually hoping for the counter offer "Hey fans, how about I fire Vinny and hire a new team president and a GM", then it becomes a realistic battle and one worth fighting. Throwing money at a cause with impossible demands is like throwing money into a fire. You will never get a penny of it back. It is just a bad investment. |
...
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" ...
If DS were "evil" that might apply. It certainly is a great quote. In this case DS is simply misguided/moronic rather than evil incarnate. My case has not been to put down the efforts these guys are making, but asking if the actions will produce the actions they, and we, want to see. I say they won't, not only that, they will foster more bad behavior by DS. To match your quote with another equally qualified quote: "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions" I would hope that if they do raise the $8000 they would take a minute and reflect on the outcome they want and see what actions they could do that would possibly sway the momentum in that direction, rather than blindly say this is what we are doing. Isn't that the same philosophy as DS? I said it, I'm doing it, results be damned. mImpetert gets a lot of credit for taking this on, and I hope that it will be something he will remember positively for the rest of his life. Kudos to him and his team for that. I just hope the results, intended and unintended, don't end up hurting the Skins in DC. |

Re: Sell OUR Team Danny Boy - DC Metro Bus Ads
1. Again, the name of your campaign is "Sell OUR Team Danny Boy" not "Change YOUR ways Danny Boy".
2. If you do reach your goal and you buy your add and Danny does not sell the team you have failed and essentially have wasted everyones money. 3. He owns 51%, he cannot be bought out unles he sells it. There is only a total of 49% that can be acquired through his partners. 4. The NFL owners have to approve the sale of an NFL franchise to a new majority owner. Danny is so bad that they will never let him sell. It's one less team to worry about making the post season. (That was a funny) 5. The last time that I ignorantly bashed anyone was when I was ignorant so it doesn't count. |

1. There is a paradox in your bolded quotes: is there a chance that he will sell his interest in the team soon or not? 2. How do you know that a current minority partner would be better as majority owner? 3. If your true message is "Change the team," not "Sell the team," then why don't you say that? When dealing with the arrogant, the last thing that you want to do is peddle unclarity. |

Re: Sell OUR Team Danny Boy - DC Metro Bus Ads
Hoo, I read that part about the refund.
Don't you think Mr. Snyder heard or at least heard about the "Sell the team" chants at the stadium when they played the Chiefs? I understand wanting to promote change, but if that's what their goal is, then just say that. This is almost as bad as the Vikings calling an artic tundra "Greenland". |
Re: Sell OUR Team Danny Boy - DC Metro Bus Ads
I think sell the team sends the message more clearly. I don't think this is about getting Snyder to literally sell the team, as much as airing out a real sentiment that exists amongst the fans.
This message communicates more bluntly the collective and utter disgust with the direction of this franchise under Snyder's ownership. What other way to cut to the chase about how you feel about Snyder? So while I'm neither pro or con this project, I think sell the team conveys the real message. |

I argue that the continued and exaggerated alienation of DS by the fan base only leads in one direction, and that is the team moving. Yes DS' moves are moronic, imbecilic etc. but he has final say and that isn't changing. So the most likely result of any anti-DS groundswell is the loss of the very thing all of us want to succeed. |

I think you are correct. When fans demand that the team be sold, likely DS will just be driven more deeply into a bunker mentality. And, from this position, he is far more likely to move the team than to sell it. I'm sorry but I think the "Sell our team" campaign is, in the long term, counterproductive and perhaps disastrous. "Change the team" is a much better message and is one that I would support. |

Re: Sell OUR Team Danny Boy - DC Metro Bus Ads
Let me also say that Snyder is plenty embarrassed by what's going on right now. The latest move banning signs inside the stadium has already backfired and has had unintended consequences. Every media outlet has picked up this story and is running with it non stop, reinforcing the perception that Snyder is all about Snyder.
The thing is this ain't Detroit or Cleveland folks. People expect those teams to be bad and won't give a second thought about going to the playoffs better yet the Super Bowl. The Redskins, on the other hand, are a proud franchise with very loyal and proud fans, and a very proud city. We expect to win here. And after we're done winning, we hoist up our heroes and put them in the Hall of Fame. This is no ordinary decline by just another sports franchise. But what adds insult to injury, at least in the minds of the fans, is that those franchises are bad, in part, because they don't live in markets where NFL franchises can thrive long term. Snyder has spent millions upon millions and has fielded a very mediocre product for ten years. It's not that the Redskins are bad, we're expensively bad! |

Since when does he own only 51% He shouldn't make decisions based on what fans think. A good owner acts in the best interest of the team, in spite of what the fans want. Some of the brightest minds out there and complete morons when it comes to their fanhood. |
Re: Sell OUR Team Danny Boy - DC Metro Bus Ads
First of all, the majority ownership thing is not gonna happen. The minority owners are made up of his sister and his mother among others. I also believe that a greater part reverted to him when one of the original group, Fred Drasner, was bought out. And he'll never move the team. He's a lofelong DC guy and the league makes it too difficult anyway (I wonder how the other owners would feel about a request to move due to being run out of town by the fans, LOL).
I also think the whole "Sell Our Team" theme is sending the right message. It may or may not get off the ground, but I guarantee you, DS is hearing every post of every thread (because he's compulsive like that). The guy has like 5 TVs over his desk tuned into all the sports networks. It definitely drives home the fact that he may own the franchise but it's "our" team. I'm totally sold that he is embarassed and gnashing his teeth about the whole situation and he has heads spinning 24/7 at Redskin Park trying to stop the hemorrhaging. So keep the pressure on. |
Re: Sell OUR Team Danny Boy - DC Metro Bus Ads
I think a better way (and it may have already been mentioned) is to stop supporting the companies that sponsor the Redskins. Instead of Papa Johns or Popeyes chicken got to Jose's Chicken hut and Crazy Pete's Pizzaria....or whatever.
You have to make sure to let the company know the reason for you taking your buisness elsewhere. Be sure to specify that when they no longer have a buisness relationship with Washington, and only then will you patronize there buisness again. |

Exactly. I think the odds that Snyder moves the team are about as good as the odds of him selling it. |
