Gruden has always had a heavy say in personnel from what I understand. At least in Tampa.
Grudens big complaint in Tampa was that the owner did not want to open his pocket. We all know thats not the case here. They easily could have won a Superbowl in Oakland if it wasn't for the tuck play. |
I think being the GM of a team that went to the Super Bowl (and winning one) is a good start. And I believe he had a good record when he was in Oakland.
Well I wouldn't give Allen credit for the TB SB cause those were not his players. And after that SB they really didn't so anything and he and Gruden got fired. He did a nice job bringing in some older vets in Oakland. I like the move but I'm going to take a wait and see attitude. I wanted a true personel guy first, not a business contract guy. They've already got a guy doing that. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
Wow! I was up early before this news broke, took a nap, just woke up and this! Wow!
I like the move, I must say. I hope the next move is to sign JC, but let's celebrate this while we can. |

Welcome home, Mr. Allen your roots started here with your dad. Vinny please turn off the lights and don't let door hit you on the way out.

Bruce Allen is a well respected guy around the NFL who will be the face of the Redskins. There is a whole scouting department and the coach to help him find and select the players. He may not have rings but he has always been involved in good organizations...the last time the Raiders were not a joke was when he was there. He will represent the Redskins very well IMO. I look forward to my Redskins not being a punchline anymore. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
Give Snyder credit for being loyal to the redskins faithful. Hiring Gibbs and hiring George Allen's son keeps the Redskins tradition alive. Regardless of results, we can't say that Snyder doesn't try to keep the skins faithful happy (outside of the prices at FedEx)

Side question.... anyone kinda okay with Zorn keeping his job? Stranger things have happened in Redskins land.
Demote Zorn to QB coach. |

Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead. Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed. Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. He's gone where the goblins go, Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out. Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low. Let them know The Wicked Witch is dead! |

Totally agree. We can question Snyder's methods and results, but never his motive and passion. |

I'm so happy that Vinny is gone. I've only two words for the new GM, Offensive Tackle.

Mike Shanahan as head coach and Jim Zorn as QB coach before you shoot me guys think about it he has really developed Jason.
But I mean the stage seems set for Mike to come in |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I'll bet JC stays.
|
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Cerrato resigns (Bruce Allen hired as VP/GM) - merged
I doubt Shanahan will be the HC.

Holmgren is only looking for a GM position, not HC. Shanahan wants to be both. It has be Gruden. |

I can't help but think the way the team's playing right now along with this positive news, that the Giants want to come here Monday night with the playoffs on the line.
I think we're gonna be fired up big time. |

(How sad is it that the biggest news in skins-land since JGG came back is that Vinny finally got the ax? But whatever. I'll take it!) |

I'm sure this has been suggested but Bruce Allen pretty much guarantee's Chuckie as our next head coach, right?

Great news!!! I met Allen while he was in Oakland and he is a great guy. People don't realize he also drafted Nnamdi Asomugha in Oakland.

Allen and Gruden are very close (they watch football games together up here). But it's not like that's the only coach Allen has ties to

Not necessarily, but of course his name is going to be at the top of the rumor mill based on their relationship. |
Does the hiring of Bruce Allen as VP/GM makes the head coach job in Washington more appealing?
Is this a prelude to Gruden leaving the booth and coaching Washington.
