Benson almost fell over while he was holding it, but I guess that had more to do with age than the weight of the trophy. :) |

Rod Gardner's never won a Super Bowl, that's why |
Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
Tom Brady, Kurt Warner, Brett Farve, Peyton Manning. I think it's safe to call the Saints the legend killers.
Rod Gardner's never won a Super Bowl, that's why
Thats cold. It's also the reason why Braylon Edwards will never win a Super Bowl. |

That would be a sacrilege to drop it, and very embarrasing to boot. It isn't that big of an object, just a small base with a slighly smaller than regulation football on top. Think about all those NHL guys that hoist the Stanley Cup over their heads. I am waiting to see some poor guy fall on his ass while trying to lift it up, on ice skates no less. |
Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
Peyton Manning is still better than Tom Brady, Brady had defenses and was a game manager like a Trent Dilfer for the ravens or Brad Johnson for the Bucs

Errrr, I agree with you on Peyton being better then Brady but calling Brady a game manager is a little silly. The guy holds the record for most TD passes in a single season with 50. Game managers don't do that. |
Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
Hail to the Saints (just this one time).
Williams D was nearly perfect I might add. He kept blitzing and while they got burned for the first TD and then for some longer completions the blitzing finally paid off w/ the pick six. It was dialed up beautifully. |

And game managers don't have ridiculous seasons pre-Moss with receivers led by Troy Brown. Brady is that good. |
Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
Garrett Hartley was money for the Saints... long FG's kept them in the game early and that onside kick was awesome.
|

What a game. Told my roomie it'd be 31-24.. thought the Colts would get 1 more

Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
I knew there would be atleast one article about Peyton's tendency to "choke" in big games, after he threw that last pick to end the game... I don't really believe all that crap since he has won a SB... Sure it was against Rex Grossman but he won the big game. Most of my buddies think he's still a "choke artist" and I think there's some good arguments to be made for either way

Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
I didnt think this game was especially exciting but when the Saints went for it on 4th (getting stuffed) and then pulled off the onside kick I knew they were going to let it all hang out to win so I was glad they won.

Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
Greg Williams is a great defensive coordinator. End of discussion. I think there are a few coaches out there that actually make a difference and he is one of them....along with Rex Ryan. Not sure if he will ever get a shot again as a head coach but he deserves one.
Payton has big big balls and I bet he learned that aggressive style while coaching under Parcells. |

Garcon & Wayne both dropped big passes that really could have changed the game. |
Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
Outside of the pick which was simply a great play by Porter, Manning played great. I don't buy the choke talk at all.

Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
Brady's Super Bowls always came with a great defense. I've always felt Mannings teams made the playoffs in spite of how mediocre the team actually was. They were last in the league in rushing this year and still made the Super Bowl. Manning deserves a lot of credit for this. Throughout NE's SB years, if Manning had been their QB, they would have won just as many if not more IMO. I don't think Brady would have had nearly as much success on the Colts.
No they didn't. Brady didn't play for the 86 Bears or the 2000 Ravens. His Defenses were good, not great. AND Manning has had WAY MORE talent around him, yet he consistently under-achieves. As a matter of fact, if it weren't for Brady's pathetic Receivers (future hall of famers, Troy Brown and Jabar Gaffney) dropping passes, last night would have been Manning's first Super Bowl. Manning is this generations Dan Marino. Brady is this generation's Joe Montana. Manning has 29TDs and 18INTs in the playoffs. AVERAGE! Manning is Brady's bitch! |

Absolutely, Marino is the best QB to ever play but he doesnt have any rings. Its not like this is golf where one man controls his own destiny, its a team game and maybe if Miami had a D he might have won a few titles. |
Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
Why do we have to have these silly arguments about who is the greatest of all time?
Montana, Manning, Marino, Bradshaw, Brady, Jurgensen, etc. were all great. Different strengths and weakness'. Brees played great once he heated up in after the 2nd quarter. Might he win another SB? |
Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
Forget who said it but I like the argument of best of their time. Makes a little more sense to do it that way since you really can't fairly compare across different eras of the game.

Manning is Brady's bitch!
BS. There was no comparison between Indy's defense and NE's during those years. They might not have been the Bears or Ravens but they were pretty damn good. To say otherwise is just ignorant. |

Take the rings out?!?! Let's take out TD passes while we're at it. And passing yards too. Marino was awesome. Manning is awesome. No argument here. |

And there's no comparison between Indy's offense and NEs during those years either. Nobody said the Pats had bad Defenses those years, but they aren't even in the discussion of all time great Defenses. Like you said, they were pretty damn good. Not great! Before this year, Manning was 0-3 when his team was the #1 seed going into the playoffs. Compare his team's regular seasons to their playoff performances, and they chronically UNDER-ACHIEVE! |
Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
NE 2001 OFF Rank -6 DEF Rank-6 Points allowed 272
INDY 2001 OFF Rank -2 DEF Rank-31 Points allowed 486 NE 2003 OFF Rank -12 DEF Rank-1 Points allowed 238 INDY 2003 OFF Rank -2 DEF Rank-20 Points allowed 336 NE 2004 OFF Rank -4 DEF Rank-2 Points allowed 260 INDY 2004 OFF Rank -1 DEF Rank-19 Points allowed 351 If Manning had the same defenses NE had he'd have multiple rings too. He did more with less. Manning's offenses would have been hard-pressed to be anywhere near the top without him. Brady had the luxury of a strong defense getting turnovers and holding down the oppositions score and time on the field. Spin it any way you want. It is what it is. |

:laughing- That was pretty lame. My GF wasn't even sure who they were. She asked me if the league got them to play because of "Who Dat." I really couldn't give a good reason why they were chosen to play. Maybe it was Seniors Week in Miami? Or is it always Seniors Week in Miami? |

I've loved The Who for decades so I have nothing against the choice. But it sure was Old Geezers Hour. At least with the geriatrics there can be no "wardrobe malfunctions." If Roger Daltrey had shown some nipple, the stadium would have cleared and the second half would have been canceled. |

Hartley didn't kick the onside kick though, thought was Morstead. By the way, who'd have thunk the Cardinals and Saints, two franchises whose names have been synonymous for decades with incompetence, would be repping the NFC in the SB in back to back years? |

That's exactly why they were picked, they are safe. Its funny that they are considered safe now considering how out there they were back in their hey-day. I love The Who but last night they sucked. The vocals had no power/energy and everything seemd slow & tired. |
Re: Super Bowl XLIV Gameday Thread: Saints vs. Colts
60 year old rock stars trying to recapture their youth is kinda sad really. Maybe good for a 70's or 80's retro tour but that's about it.
