Re: Schefter: "There's no way" the Rams won't pick Sam Bradford at No. 1
i was going accordin to risk. I FULLY agree OLine is our #1 Priority. But if Okung is off the board, the next in line would be Anthony Davis (moral/work ethic issues) and Buluga (thyroid/injury history) i just think #4 is too high of a pick to draft a question mark. Just sayin IMO Eric Berry would be the safer pick. And i think #4 is too high to grab Trent Williams and def too high for Bruce Campbell (looks amazing, plays like shit) id rather not reach in the 1st and get a Charles Brown, Vladimir Duccasse, or Jason Fox in the 2nd. you wanna reach just to say "we got a 1st round OT?" Okung deserves that spot. But others are questionable
It's not just that. From a talent perspective he's easily worth the #1 pick. However aside from the shoulder injury that size makes people wonder how well he would take a beating at this level. Getting up to 236 makes him a tank by QB standards. In fact I think he put on a little more then the 14 pounds thats getting reported, given that he was listed as 214 during the season. Thats 22 pounds he's gained since the season most of it being muscle.
Basically Bradford took a concern and effectively neutralized it. Once they see him throw on his pro day then it will be very difficult for the Rams to pass on him.
Pssst...Sam Bradford is a practicing cannibal...tell the Rams this! We need some terrible rumor to scare the Rams off. |

Assuming our roster stays as is (as in we don't trade Landry) I give the edge to Suh. I think Suh has the chance to be Haynesworth at his best, a dominating game changing DT. McCoy to me is another Renaldo Wynn type, a solid run-stopping DT/DE who you can count on to do the dirty work for years to come. I want more than that at #4 |
Re: Schefter: "There's no way" the Rams won't pick Sam Bradford at No. 1
Or i hope that someone who DOES want Eric Berry will trade up with us so we get a mid-1st round pick and maybe a 3rd so we can draft the next OT where he deserves to go and hopefully Hardesty in the 3rd :-)
You'll feel better in one or two years when Chris Johnson starts to break down. Running back early is the type of pick you make when you're close to a Super Bowl. For a team like us struggling in the trenches I'd say we need more grunt players. In fact I'd take Rolando McClain before I'd take Spiller. Heck I'd take McClain over Berry and McCoy.
The thing is if they don't like Clausen as you say and Okung is selected by the Chiefs at 2 via a trade then I think I'd like us to either be super cool and trade down, or draft Buluga. The only thing though that worries me about Buluga is his injury history with the thyroid condition and the shoulder problems. However from a talent perspective he's easily worth a top 10 pick. Maybe a small reach in this draft given the defensive talent at the top but I feel like he could quite possibly emerge as the best tackle of this draft, though Okung is obviously the most likely.
As much as I'd be tempted, truthfully I'd prefer Best...and I wouldn't take him at #4 Who said Okung was going to the Chiefs via a trade? |
Re: Schefter: "There's no way" the Rams won't pick Sam Bradford at No. 1
I honestly would have a terrible time picking between Suh and Berry. But just for the sake of discussion, here's an article talking about why safetys are becoming more valued.

LOL. Go back and read what I wrote. I didn't say the Chiefs were planning to trade up to take Okung. I said the Lions and Chiefs are rumored to be discussing a deal that would give the Lions Glen Dorsey (but not for the #2 overall pick) and free up the Lions to take Okung with the #2 pick.
The Chiefs would stay at #5 and possibly take Bulaga (maybe McLain) |

Why get someone we already have (i.e. the haynesworth comparison) If we didnt have Hanyesworth i could picture it. And we will be using more of a 3-4 then a 4-3 so we dont need a dominating game changing DT. we'd need a NT. Suh is not a NT, n neither is McCoy. So now we use the #4 pick on a DT that we'd be sliding out to DE in a 3-4? So ill repeat, take a DLineman high in a defense based on DE's eating up blocks so the LBs can make plays? Berry would be the more "game changing" player for the redskins and their new scheme. Id like to reiterate tho, that Okung should be the pick if hes not swept up by the lions. And how Bruce Allen keeps saying "we're gonna take the best player for the REDSKINS" makes it sound like hes bracing the Redskins nation for him to not grab an OT with that #4 pick |

Fair points, I just don't know about how Landry and Berry together would work. Of the three options given I'd be fine with any of them
Incidentally, I think Nate Allen could be a solid 2nd-3rd round option at safety |

Re: Schefter: "There's no way" the Rams won't pick Sam Bradford at No. 1
Well Laron Landry belongs near the line of scrimmage in he box, timing blitzes and supporting the run. Eric Berry is a poor man's ed reed. But has potential to be a rich mans ed reed as well. Eric Berry pointed out that he has been an impact player since he stepped on Tennessee's campus and the same cant be said about McCoy or Suh. I saw nate allen during senior bowl practices and liked what i saw. But i dont think we should take a safety anywhere in this draft unless its @ 4 n Berry is there. I think we have much bigger needs for 2, 4, 5, n 7th picks. Im just saying @ 4 with Okung off the board he's easily a consideration.

Interesting I don't see the Rams making this trade and taking Bradford it will be one or the other.
Depends on the draft pick compensation. If they end up giving up this year's second rounder in the deal, I doubt they'll be spending both of their top 60 picks on QBs. Some guys might, Devaney will not. You know what trade would be really interesting for both teams? No. 1 pick to Philly for the No. 24 pick, McNabb, and DE Victor Abiamiri. Rams would still be in position to pick a quarterback early in the draft and add another impact player, would get a mediocre defensive end to play opposite Long, and McNabb to be the starter there in 2010. |

Re: Schefter: "There's no way" the Rams won't pick Sam Bradford at No. 1
Wish we could learn to win cheap. One way to do that is draft linemen in the upper rounds then get a QB in the mid level rounds. I still think we should go for the likes of Lefevour, Pike, Kafka, and even give Sean Canfield a look. Joe Elliot from Purdue would be definitely available in the later rounds.

Since the Redskins are a big market team, I don't think they will have to worry about winning cheap if revenue sharing goes out the door. However, if we keep up the free spending, you can expect the cost of going to a game isn't going to fall anytime soon.

Re: Schefter: "There's no way" the Rams won't pick Sam Bradford at No. 1
Well after watching most of the combine I come away with my top prospects in terms of whom the redskins should get in terms of over all value:
1) Sam Bradford (puts on 13 lbs of muscle and just talks at the combine, then all of a sudden he's become the all but certain first overall pick) 2) Russell Okung 3)Ndamakong Suh (just watch what he did to texas's OL, and you'll see how good he really is he single handedly dominated that game and is an exception for us to get even though he may not fit the 3-4) 4) Eric Berry 5) CJ Spiller (the best RB in the draft IMO) 6) Charles Brown (looks like the next best LT in the draft; is very quick on his feet and would fit our offense very well) 7) Mike Iupati (the best guard to come out since Steve Hutchinson, has a mean streak, and I believe he could play in any offense) 8) Bryan Bulaga (has been injured and looks more like a RT in the NFL, and not a LT, doesn't really look like a T for this offense but has potential to be the best T in this draft 5 years from now) 9) Joe Haden (didn't do as good as people thought he would at the combine, but just look at the film and you'll see how good he really is; he's low because we have OL and QB needs before CB needs plus I'm assuming we'll probably go after a CB in FA) 10) Rolando McClain (didn't really do much at the combine, and people are saying he was good just because Saban's system makes him look good, I don't buy it, I also think 3-4 MLB is one of the last things we should worry about) 11) Maurkice Pouncey (the best center in the draft, big and mobile, but we'll probably get a later round center or just rely on Rabach with a later round rookie to groom; and don't sleep on Edwin Williams or Kory Lichtenstreiger) 12) Sean Weatherspoon (is perfect for this defense because he's a 4-3 OLB and a 3-4 MLB, basically a young dansby, but I also think we could have dansby, and like I said before MLB isn't a top need) |

Remember it was the media that kept saying the Rams were going to take Suh, now that the media has had a chance to get a better feeling for what the Rams are thinking they're going with the guy they should have picked to begin with. As far as Iupati, I hope you're not one of the guys that complains about the penalties against Rabach. Iupati is a notorious holder and would be more the type of guy you'd keep around, not the type of guy you go out and get (sort of like Dockery for us right now, emphasis on the "sort of" part) I don't think anyones really saying that McClain was good because of Sabans system in fact just the opposite. McClain is being touted as easily one of the best in terms of football IQ. He was basically the college defensive equivalent of Peyton Manning.
Quarterback of the defense and can be seen getting teammates aligned on film. Coaches rave about his understanding of the team's defensive scheme and work ethic in the film room. Locates the ball quickly and practices sound gap discipline. Can take a step towards the line of scrimmage against play action but recovers quickly. Quickly recognizes screens.
Personally I would love Pouncey. If we went two OL with our first and second round pick then he would be a steal. I get the feeling that he will eventually be the type of player that could be on par with Randy Thomas in his prime. Maybe not a pro bowler but definitely a beast. Then again if Thomas had played for the Eagles all these years he would easily have been a pro bowler. |

Re: Schefter: "There's no way" the Rams won't pick Sam Bradford at No. 1
I wouldn't be surprised still if McCoy is the Rams choice at #1, Chad Pennington is the stopgap solution at QB (unless they stick with Boller, who I think they still have) and they take someone like LeFevour or McCoy at the top of the 2nd.

Re: Schefter: "There's no way" the Rams won't pick Sam Bradford at No. 1
if Rams trde the number 1 pick for mcnabb they would be insane. And why would Philly trade him to an NFC team? That also makes no sense. Honestly I still think he stays in Philly and stl drafts Bradford. As much as I want to draft him my gut feeling (I do live in the same city as Sam) is he is a ram.

It's very unlikely that theres another CJ in this draft. And besides even if Spiller was, by the time we'd be ready to compete for a championship Spiller would most likely start to break down. I personally think he's going to be Reggie Bush 2.0. Very talented and dynamic but in order for him to be effective you're going to have to go our of your way to design stuff for him. |

another CJ maybe not.. same you can argue another darren sproles in FA, but you may have someone that does well enough obviously each had an impact without carrying their team with your argument about him maybe becoming another bush or someone that breaks down I'd be way more likely to take that possibility in the 4-5th round range even if it meant one less year |
