Re: Campbell A Raider
Oakland had, what appeared to be a great draft. One thing is for sure - Campbell has never been in a situation with a better offensive line and as much talent to help him be successful. I wish him the best of luck, but i can't say that I miss him at all. I do wonder how his career would have played out if Gibbs had never brought in Saunders.

Re: Campbell A Raider
Yeah, I had bought two Cooley Jerseys and sold them on Ebay because of all the Cooley trade talk. Then I bought Two Haynesworth Jerseys, thinking he is the one guy it would be safe to do so. Next thing I know, he is supposedly on the trading block.

You might have overreacted just a tad with Cooley. He was never on the trade block, it was just pure fan speculation. |
Re: Campbell A Raider
Say what you want about Campbell, but remember that he got sacked 50 times last year. And most of those sacks were because Zorn didn't know anything about protection schemes. Also, remember that Campbell had two Offensive Coordinators last year and one of his coordinators was used to calling, "N37" or "B18". No other quarterback in the league has had to go through something like that. So, putting up 3600 yards passing and 20 touchdowns...................................yeah, those are average numbers, but putting up average numbers when you're getting sacked 50 times while hearing "B19" from your coordinator...........................Thats pretty impressive if you ask me. Letting him go was dumb. Letting him go for almost nothing in return was dumber. And trading for McNabb was the dumbest move this franchise has made since bringing in Deon Sanders.
But, you got to tip your cap to the Raider's front office on this one. They got a mobile gun slinger, who can learn a new system every year, do well with any offensive coordinator in the league, and can take hard hits! And it didn't cost them anything. What a move by the Raiders...........................
I'll give you credit for the whole Zorn crap. Although it doesn't speak for his time with Gibbs. As far as the Bingo caller, remember the team got better and actually won a couple of games because of him. So don't blame the Bingo caller, blame the guy who couldn't win prior to the Bingo caller. |

If this was the 70's and 80's where players stayed with their teams throughout their whole career I'd purchase one. These days I'll settle for the cheap knock offs at Walmart. |

I have a Portis jersey that has served me well for about 4 years. If I buy another, it will probably be Darrell Green or Art Monk though. I'd buy a Sean Taylor also. I've considered an Orakpo, but it's so tough to predict if he'll be here forever. In a perfect scenario, he'll dominate for us for 15 years, but we've let some great players go. It's just the nature of the business today. |
Re: Campbell A Raider
Does anyone know the exact terms of the trade? Clayton's reporting that we only get the 2012 4th rounder if Oakland makes the playoffs or Campbell makes the pro-bowl. In my opinion, that's crap. Hopefully, Clayton's just confused and we're getting a 2012 4th that can increase to something better if Campbell makes the pro-bowl or leads Oakland to the playoffs. If Clayton's correct, then it was completely retarded for us to trade him at all. We'd have been better of just keeping him as a backup in 2010 and letting him walk after the season. Atleast that way, we'd be (almost) assured of getting a compensatory pick in 2012.

Then again, between two tight-lipped organizations such as the Redskins and the Raiders, no information is good information.

Re: Campbell A Raider
Yes it's a straight up 4th, no conditions.

Re: Campbell A Raider
thanks for the clarification. very happy with the trade, then.

Apparently Rock Cartwright is headed to Oakland as well.

I will be curious to see if he can make that team, or any team for that matter. He'll be a jouneyman at best from here out. |
Some seem to have very loose definitions of bust, but traditionally a bust is a guy that is an epic failure. A guy that comes into the league with high expectations and quickly proves that he is not a NFL caliber player.
I agree with you about the high expectations, and if someone doesn't meet those expectations, that's when they become a bust. We like to talk about the "epic failures" that become busts, and often those big names are the ones synonomous with bust, but that doesn't mean that only the extremely epic failures are the only busts. Campbell was a bust for us, and he will likely suck in Oakland (due to poor leadership in that orginization and no help from players) meaning he will solidify himself as a bust. Look at Roy Williams, he has played 25 games for the Cowboys, and has had only 57 receptions for 794 yards during those games. He was a Pro Bowler for the Lions, and played extremely well for them. So why is it Roy Williams is now a bust for the Cowboys? |

So why is it Roy Williams is now a bust for the Cowboys?
By your definition, Roy Williams never won games with the Lions, so there should be no relative considerations, he was a bust when he was acquired by the Cowboys, and he's done nothing to change his plight there. By the definitions of others, Williams has been a bust for the Cowboys because he was acquired from the Lions for a hefty price and with great expectations, and hasn't offered them acceptable production for their investment. I don't think too many people would actually propose that Williams isn't an NFL caliber player, but given that he was no great shakes for the Lions, the price that Dallas payed to get him looks obscene by comparison. It's true that Roy Williams didn't offer quite the production that Detroit was hoping to get from a top ten pick, but he was able to play like a professional for four seasons there. Therefore, poor value, though clearly not a bust. Dallas wasn't looking for a professional in 2008, they were paying to get a developed no. 1 receiver, which there was little reason to think Williams would be. |

Thought this was interesting as I didn't here about this till tonight. The Raiders got JC but it looks like we may have landed the guy they really wanted.

He would need to put on some more weight for that, but that shouldn't be a problem. Gaining weight is one of the things he actually does well. :) |

Not really, when I think of Redskins busts, Heath Shuler...ARGH. He's still a gigantic upgrade over their own bust QB. :D |

It's getting tough to detect sarcasm vs. serious posts around here lately. There have been some ridiculous trains of thought since Zorn took the job.
Sure there was always a few loonies, but they seem to have multiplied in the past 2 years. Maybe it's all of the ES bannings. :D |

He's still a gigantic upgrade over their own bust QB. :D
Sure HS was a bust but the Skins didnt give away a bunch of picks to get him. To me its all those picks that they gave away is what puts the bust label on JC. Not only did JC not pan out they didnt get ant benefit from the 3 picks they gave away to get him. That's a 4 player loss and a pretty big hit. |

So, are you arguing that if, for the sake of argument, we had picked JC at #25 without giving up extra picks, he would not be a bust? |

he's closer to what you'd call a draft bust than an actual bust it wasn't his fault that we gave up all of that for him |
Re: Campbell A Raider
I dont think JC is a bust. I just felt like he was an underachiever. He wasn't good enough to make a bad team better. He could keep a decent team decent. And that's why i think he will do fair in Oakland. They are a young team on the rise, and he is a sensible QB that does just enough to preserve a win. He will not be their Rich Gannon, and i dont think anyone expects him to be.
Remember he still has to beat out Gradkowski and Kyle Boller, because all news says that JaMarcus Russell will be released in the coming days... |

Did we even need to trade up to get him. I also question if we offered up more then what we need to offer to move up in the draft. It's not like this would be a first for us to give up too much to get a deal done. |

One of the picks was our 1st rounder in 06 for their 1st rounder in 05, that's a swap, not a loss of a pick. I thought we gave up a 3rd & 4th after that. If so, that would be a net of 2 picks, not 4. |

Pretty much yes. I think I'd call him more of a big disappointment if he was drafted 25th. Its the loss of those picks thats the real kicker. JC ended up being a marginal QB (who might not even start in Oak) who the Skins end up thrwing away for a 4th round pick. |
