The guys they picked up are more scheme fits than just a splurge. Holmes still has many years in front of him and he showed why he's a starter and not a backup. Jason Taylor thrives in the 3-4, and the Jets run a 3-4. Braylon Edwards apparently just needed a change of scenery and LT is their pass catching RB third down back.

They established a good young unit there that gives them the luxury of being able to splurge in other areas.

That is a definate plus that puts what they have done in the offseason at a signifigant advantage over what we had done in all of our previous OffSeason Championship runs.

Of course this year, I still put us at the top of the offseason moves department again, but unlike years past our focus was Oline and QB. Which will provide us with a better chance of actually winning then previous years where we added a couple of pieces of high priced and overevaluated defensive players.

Have to agree with Sir Cp on this one Lotus. The Jets acquired guys that were needed and fit their plans to a T. Also the guys aren't wheeze kids. Notice how I said plans. In 2000 I am not too sure DS had a plan and it showed. Deion was a waste of space for us. Bruce Smith did contribute some. Andre Reed had only a handful of catches for us with only one TD. Larry Centers performed very well for us and Adrian Murrell had some decent moments, but not that many. DS just threw a ton of money at aging Probowlers and thought they could get him back to the divisionals or better.

But are scheme fits and not signed to ridiculously long contract lengths. Taylor is a 3-4 LBer and nothing else. Lucky for the Jets, the run a 3-4. Deion got a [B]seven[/B] year deal worth 56 million.
Bruce Smith got a FIVE year deal worth 23 million.

Not only that, LT and JT are both hungry for a championship.

So, I think it's pretty clear that DS was just throwing money blindly in such a manner that even Madden players would not have done while the Jets knew what they were doing when they signed old vets. You can't have a team full of aging vets, but you need enough of them to play a supplemental role in guiding the young guys and providing consistent play to hold the fort. I have Madden 2002, and some FA classes are outright poor and if there are any highly rated players, they're old and prone to retire at any moment.

Cp has it right. Scheme fits that didn't cost a bundle. Shoot we were paying for Deion through Spurrier and the guy only had like 2-3 INTs for us his entire time here. Andre Reed even cost a bundle compared to what we got out of him. We could have easily drafted or signed an undrafted CB and another WR for less and we would have gotten more production out of them. That being said, it still might not work with the Jets and you will be right. But I think the Jets had a plan in acquiring these guys while DS more or less shot from the hip. His spending spree cost us half a decade of salary cap hell.

The Denver Broncos chose to waive right tackle Tyler Polumbus on Tuesday, per Mike Klis of the Denver Post, and now he'll have to venture into the uncharted waters of playing competitive football for a team that doesn't call the state of Colorado home.

According to Klis, the Broncos' new power-blocking scheme was not a match for Polumbus, who seems more of a fit in a zone-blocking scheme. Therefore, Klis opines that the [B]Washington Redskins,[/B] Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks or Oakland Raiders could be a fit. Former NFL lineman and current Sports Illustrated scribe Ross Tucker thinks that the Dallas Cowboys or Pittsburgh Steelers might also show some interest. While everyone's in speculative mode, we'll go ahead and throw the Buffalo Bills in the mix, given their massive need on the bookends.

Personally at this point I would rather have Polumbus and Heyer then just Heyer as a backup Tackle. Also at 25 the guy is young enough to develop. Much to my chagrin, Capers is probably going to be lucky to make the practice squad. Cook on the other hand will probably make the practice squad but he's not ready to play in the NFL.

Anybody else watching the Redskins vs. Ravens replay right now? I refuse to say that Suggs owned Williams this game. I saw Williams pancake him even more times than I saw before. Yes, everyone wants to concentrate on the one or two plays that Suggs owned him, but that's pretty damn good considering.

Yeah I'm watching it too. I totally agree. I thought. Williams played pretty good. Not great but pretty good. No yeah in hell he got owned.

Yea IDK where that came from? Williams did really good on Suggs.. Sometimes ppl forget that Suggs is a top 5 DE/LB, and Trent is a rookie.

I kind of fet the same way, TMC. I watched most of the first half the other day and I thought the first team actually played pretty well. Not lights out obviously, but for a preseason game against an agressive defense I saw some good things to take away from the game.

They still have alot of work ahead of them to get to where they want to go, but it is obtainable to have a good team this year.

Yeah, I mean it's like the media was just looking for anything to start something. Straight up, TW held his own and them some against one of the best pass rushers in the league.

Because it's about the brand name really. Monday Night Football should be viewed together as one phrase, don't focus so much on the Monday part of it

I'm a moderator on a Redskins message board...but to pay the bills I do other stuff. I used to acquire programming rights and schedule them on ESPN's tv networks, along with a team of others. Now I work mainly in the non-tv world. My job deals with a lot of stuff that doesn't exist yet. Not to be all CIA on you, but I work on the business strategy for ESPN projects that are months, sometimes years, down the road and how to make it successful for fans, leagues, advertisers, etc. So one day when say you're watching Monday Night Football on your Wii while chatting with Trent Dilfer, you'll think of me
