I didn't think he knew as much as he does. He impressed me and honestly seems to be a laid back guy that loves the game. I still want Locker at 10 but I'd be happy with taking Mallett in this draft
Sorry dude, but I have seen too many potheads in my lifetime NOT to think wacky tobacky is anything other than addictive. Yeah most folks up here in Detroit move on to bigger and better things like crack, but I have known co workers and a few old friends that stuck with it and smoked it way too often not to be labeled anything other than being an addict. I have also known other friends that could just smoke it occasionally, but those folks are in a minority of the people that I know who smoke weed.
Dude you cannot downgrade indisputable evidences based on your experience.. What I wrote in this thread, I have learned from published articles, where the clinical psychology licensed authors did their research on marijuana. The evidences show that individuals' experiences vary when it comes to marijuana..

Enough of this drug talk, go back to Ryan Mallett story.

Ryan, the Redskins drafting you at 10 is a Rumor. Not a guarantee. I tell you, back in my day when we did coke it was strong, but not strong enough to make us do really stupid stuff. Worse we did in my day was paint a couple of buildings in Miami weird colors like teal and magenta. Now these kids are walking out on meetings.

This is pretty clear cut to me:

Either he was going through heroin withdrawls:
Mallett met team officials for dinner April 8, the day he arrived in town, but meetings the next day at Bank of America Stadium were cancelled after Mallett called and said he was sick, multiple sources told the National Football Post.
Or he was still coked out of his mind from the night before:
Complicating the matter is the fact sources said Mallett was seen out on the town late following the dinner

I don't want Mallett based on his Character concerns, I feel now like he'll be one of those prospects that for the first year or two people will be like "Why didn't we draft him?" then he'll get all cocky and start doing stupid things like being caught with drugs and be another Ryan Leaf/ Ben Roethlisberger type of off the field QB.

No I'll pass on him now thank you.

BuckSkin 04-20-2011 01:29 PM

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?

An inaccurate, immobile QB with re-enforced character issues. I'm not sure why he's even mentioned by anyone as 1st round talent. To have released UDFA Chase Daniels, to even consider drafting Mallett 2 years later is asinine.

How many white girls does it take to screw in a light? None, white girls can’t screw

How many white men does it take to screw in a light bulb? One, white men will screw anything.

What do you call a 100 white guys chasing one black guy? The PGA Tour before Tigers divorce.

What did a white guy see when he looked at his family tree? A straight line!

What do you call a bunch of white guys in a circle? A Dope Ring!

What do you call a White man with a sheep under each arm?
A Pimp.

What do you call a bunch of white guys sitting on a bench? The NBA

What do you call a mob of white people at the University of Maryland burning down the city? A Maryland championship.

What do you call a white man in court? The lawyer.

What do you call a white man in the ghetto? A victim.

What do you say when you see a white man carrying a TV? “Excuse me sir, you dropped your receipt!”

What’s the difference between a white man and a snake? One is a evil, cold-blooded, venomous, slimy creature of Satan, and the other is a snake

What’s white and fourteen inches long? Absolutely nothing!

Why do so many white people get lost skiing? It’s hard to find them in the snow.

Jim Cracker is WHITE!!
How white is he?
He's so white, during the L.A riots, he went out and bought a TV.

His agent is about as credible as his mother. Actually probably less credible. A mother would be more likely to turn her kid in.

It seems that story posted earlier was a bunch of bullshit.

Agents, Panthers respond to Mallett report | ProFootballTalk
The Panthers have corroborated that version of the events, in an e-mail to PFT: “Ryan Mallett came for a visit to Charlotte two weeks ago. He had dinner with our coaches the evening he arrived and came down from his hotel room for a scheduled breakfast meeting the following morning upon which time he informed a staff member that he had been sick all night with nausea. We told Ryan that if he was ill to remain in his room as long as the nausea existed. We took him to the airport later that afternoon for his scheduled flight.”
SO why in the **** did they post the first bogus rumor before doing their research?? God damn I hate the media.

SmootSmack 04-20-2011 05:04 PM

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?

Well it's not entirely impossible that he went out after dinner, got hammered, got up the next morning, was able to go down to breakfast and tell the Panthers he wasn't up to meeting with them.

But again, who knows really what went down. These next few days are going to be crazy with rumors

I won't deny that he has put together some nice plays, but it is widely accepted that he doesn't move well. Couple that a career completion percentage of 54.6%, apparently he's not incredibly accurate either. Of the top QB prospects only Locker's completion percentage is lower.

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?

^ no doubt he's a slug back there , if he has a solid OL he could be a big time QB, it's not like he had Jones or Green to throw to at Ark. Im still a Locker guy for what reason IDk but if we took Mallett instead, id be happy also.

Not sure where you're getting his numbers, but his completion % for his college career was actually 57.8%.

Last season he was at 64.4%.

I took a blogger's numbers for fact, dammit. I've been searching around the net trying to villianize Mallett, but the more I learn about this kid the more impressed with him I become. The one glaring flaw is his -103 yds rushing, 28 of those at the Sugar Bowl.

My guess is this is probably what happened. But then again, there are so many smokescreens thrown out this time of year. Who knows, maybe a team picking late in the 1st round is really high on Mallett (no pun intended haha) and floated this rumor with the hope he'd fall to them. That would be a lousy thing to do, but it wouldn't surprise me.

No one will deny that Mallet is a first round talent. Like every QB in this class he has warts. I just don't know what to think about Mallet. I love some of the throws he made, however for all the indoctrination I received about SEC defenses no one on either side could even come close to the QB but for a few plays. And Bama supposedly has the best DT this year.

I think that the Sugar Bowl is the best video to watch on Mallet. It gives you the best look as his positives and negatives.

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?
<snip>Of course, Cosell was trying to compliment V. Seay when Cosell called him "that little monkey".
This is a very old topic but since it's still open, I have a question about Howard Cosell comment #2 below. It was Alvin Garrett (not Virgil) of the Smurfs that Cosell made ONE of his FOUR comments about.

Taken in context, Howard Cosell didn't actually call Garrett anything. One of the politically (in)correct words he used at least four times that I know of is listed below along with the context of how he used it.

FOR THE RECORD: It has already been proven that these comments had nothing to do with racism. Cosell was a strong civil-rights supporter of all athletes including Curt Flood, Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Arthur Ashe, Muhammed Ali, and John Carlos/Tommy Smith (1968 Olympics) among others.

FACT: There are at lease FOUR separate "little monkey" comments made by Cosell, (not just one or two).

#1. "You know that little monkey... again, the theorem was that he was too small for pro football." - August 29, 1972 K.C. Chiefs vs. N.Y. Giants preseason HOF game (re: Mike Adamle)

#2. "Look at that little monkey run!" (Unidentified player, mid 70's game, punt or kickoff return?) Does anyone remember who this one was about???

#3. "Joe Gibbs wanted to get that kid, and that little monkey gets loose doesn't he?" - September 5, 1983 Dallas at Washington (re: Alvin Garrett)

youtube.com/watch?v=PVScwog05Xw

#4. "That little monkey can really pick it." 1982, Cosell called white Atlanta Braves second baseman a "little monkey" while praising his fielding skills. (re: Glenn Hubbard)

I have already eliminated Alvin Garrett (Washington Redskins), Mike Adamle (K.C. Chiefs), and Joe Washington (Baltimore Colts and Washington Redskins) with my review of those games and players above. Note: It was not the game where Joe Washington ran a last minute 91 yd kickoff return for a touchdown to win the game 34-27 during the September 18, 1978 Monday night game between the Baltimore Colts at New England Patriots.

Anyone remember if comment #2 was even about a Redskin player?

Re: Was Jamie Dukes out of line on Ryan Mallett?

The remark really doesn't hit me as racist...hell where were all these people and "politically correct" crap when Jason Williams was being call "White Chocolate". No way that happens now. I think it ridiculous the double standard that exists in todays society regarding what can be said and what can't. Black guy says something and it is just laughed at. For example, Greg Jennings talking about Jordy Nelson. Stereo typing his as the typical white guy that can't run or can't jump.
here is the comment '

“I was talking to ‘Wood’ in the fourth quarter and he said, ‘When you see Jordy out there, you think, “Oh well, he’s a white wide receiver. He won’t be very athletic.” But Jordy sort of breaks all those stereotypes,’” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “I am not sure why he keeps sneaking up on guys.”

It says it was from Rogers, but it was Jennings who origanly said it, and Rogers came to his defense and agreed to the statement.
Now had a white guy said something stereotypical of a black athlete all hell would have broke loose.
