On the good side, it has been swinging North.......

Turn bitch turn! I've got 2 tix to the Skins-Giants and I don't think it'll be very fun sitting in hurricane type winds and rain. |

Continuing to show Northerly swing.....

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Chico, I'm sure your parents know but they are starting to allow people back on the island. We went down to OBX and there is not any real damage on the ocean side. When you go over to the sound side there is stuff every where. Boats, hot tubs, trash, dock, peirs, and other trash sitting in peoples yards. Stoped and watched a crane go over the top of someones house to get to a boat in their back yard and sat it in the water. Bad time for the battery in my camera to go bad.

My dad said they're strongly considering not rebuilding 12 around the pea island area and thinking bout going ferry(s) only...one to Rodathe and another to Hatteras. He was told they got a 400 ft wide and 20ft deep channel from the storm around there and that may be to expensive to close. People kinda pissy with that idea, judge might have to sign off on it. My father talked to a guy who runs everything there in Rodanthe, he said during the storm, most water damage was done by the sound and wind has pushed some much water to land that you could look out 100 yards in the sound and it was like a dessert when the eye passed....on the other side of the eye the wind was the worst. When the ass end of the storm showed back up, it took the water from the sound and shot it towards the island. The sound is what flooded everything. The guy said the eye of the hurricane was surreal. |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Bad news on Katia is she is a Cat 3. Good news, the latest track shows her missing the East Coast.

Its only sand and there is plenty around to fill that hole. |

So, Tropical Storm Lee's remnants has done a fine job in giving us a mosoon rain-like experience.

Latest of the season...
Tropical Storm MARIA |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Tropical Storm Lee can kiss my ass. We've had rain for 4 days straight (and it'll be 5 tomorrow), and it's gotten so bad around here we're experiencing serious flooding, which rarely happens around here. Plus no tv so can't watch the Pack v. Saints open up the NFL season, so I'm gonna watch it online until the power probably goes out and I lose my internet connection lol. And if the rain is this bad tomorrow, I'm probably not going to go to work, which is lame because I need da moniez. Since my work is only p/t I can't afford to miss days.
[yt]GQsJWcQz4i8[/yt] Going tubing during a flash flood? Why didn't I think of that? Oh yeah because I'm not an idiot. |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
My mom just called me to let me know about the flooding going on in dc area. Shes a teacher and school just got cancelled from the flooding. I have a lot of family in wilkes barre pa and they all got a mandatory evacuation today at 4pm.
Earth quake hurricane flooding no kick offs in the nfl What the hell is going on in the world???? 2012 coming true? |
Www.insidenova.com for news on road closures in Virginia. Fairfax county schools already closed tomorrow, Woodbridge won't be far behind. Be safe out there, and don't go anywhere if you don't have to.

But alas, retail corporations don't care about us. :( I live in a pretty high ground area of DC and we aren't flooding here... yet. Have they closed Rock Creek Park yet? That place has gotta be damn near a swamp by now. |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Seems like Lee is finally done, but yeah, what a week. Pennsylvania had it pretty bad.

NOVA was missed during Irene but got hit pretty hard yesterday. It was bad. Talking Swift Boat evacuations, commutes quadrupling in time, flooding, etc.

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
I've been trying to figure out if they are just pumping up the storm to make good news or if this storm is really going to be as bad as they say. Its going to hit cooler water so I'm thinking it will weaking as it grows closer.

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Looks like I'm going to spend the last week of my 20's running from a biblical storm. Awesome.

Yeah it will definitely weaken, but it can only weaken so much between now and when it hits. It's pretty strong as it is now, and it's going to combine with another smaller storm coming from the west. If this ruins Halloween my kids are going to be despondent. I've already got a contingency plan though - indoor scavenger hunt for candy. Kind of like a spooky indoor easter egg hunt but with clues. |

Dads take them out with a cooler full of beer in the wagon while the women cook some dinner. Guess we will have to drink beer at the house and do like your talking about. I am pulling the boat out of the water just to be safe. |

We already have a big basket of black and orange plastic eggs...don't know why but we do. We'll fill those with candy. Maybe I'll invite the neighbor kids too. I really think the media, especially the Weather Channel is over-hyping it. They kept using the word "unprecedented" on TWC last night. Really? First time we've had a storm like this, really? A hurricane with snow? I'll get ready anyway. I'll make sure my grill has propane and I have plenty I can prepare without the stove and oven just in case there's no power. There better be power Monday, I have a tech coming to change me over to a new internet provider. |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
I asked my boss if we still had to come into work if we were in the midst of a serious hurricane or w/e, and he said yes.

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
So we're having the Hurricane, and like two other storms hit all at once right? And all of that is supposed to cause them to get stuck on top of us for like five days?
Crazy. |

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
I just e-mailed my staff telling them that if the storm greatly affects their area to not worry about coming to work. If the storm does hit the area, I hope the higher ups at UMD decide to close the campus.

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
things are pretty rough out here, i think it was only in the 50s when i left for work this morning. it's about 75 and sunny right now. i think it's "rained" maybe once a month on average since i've moved here. when it does "rain", it's less than one of those mist joints that they use at amusement parks on hot days.
i don't even know why they have weather people on the local news here |
