Meanwhile group hugging...over 75% of mutual funds(most of the countries 401ks) are down and bankers are still managing record bonuses. usually when my company performs poorly, I dont get a bonus, like most people. So it makes sense right? Baby boomers are struggling to retire, but Wall Street bankers get record bonuses? Guess we dont deserve an explination.

Meanwhile Exxon doing great DIRECTLY because of higher prices at the pump:

i agree with chico, but most people dont know what to do about it. record amounts of money being made by the top 1%, while the middle to lower classes are really struggling.

The problem is no one cares what these guys make when their 401 or investment is doing good but when they take the downward trun that when people start to care. This is not a job for the federal gov. its time for the investors, stock holders, and employees to stand their ground and say enough is enough. I also find it funny how the left has igniored the profits of the oil companies now that Obama is in office.

You won't get a peep from the stock holders. The big time stock holders are the guys who are in the 1%, and not the middle class families. Also, you won't have any of the employees stand their ground because they are making money so they'll continue being the "yes man" for their respective companies. Again, nobody wants to make a stand until it starts affecting them. Then they want the world to rally around them, but by then it's too late.

Did you expect the left to do something about oil prices?...lol They are getting hand outs just like the right. The right are just more open about their intentions and who they serve. You can tell it in their wants to deregulate and to lower taxes for corporations. They ALL serve big businesses and hence why I want corporate campaign donations to become illegal and come with a huge penalty. Bribing the government is much worse (outcome wise) than some guy selling pot on the street corner.

Your wrong the stock holders are not the 1%. That's to small of a group. Its the guy with the 401, IRA, etc...

saw the baltimore occupy people just starting a march this afternoon as i drive by. the group leading them was carrying this black box sorta thing which kinda looked like the convenant thing in indiana jones movie but i was driving in the opposite direction and it was hard to tell.

they actually had about 100 people or so and organizers wearing yellow pull over things.

on the weekends they do a good job. i swear, on a tuesday or wednesday night they might have 30 or so tents up but less than 10 people actually sleeping out there.

I drove by Occupy Richmond Sunday. Then i heard this morning on the way to work (why i am unable to attend the protests) that they got "evicted" at 1am this morning.

The Richmond group is on public property (not like NYC) so they are susposed to have a permit. Late last week a report came out that the Tea Party was charged 8k for the protests that they held at the exact same park. The double standard pissed a lot of people off and i think is probably the main reason the cleaned out the Richmond park this morning.

So at what point or for how long should these protester be allowed to gather? Its not like they have been denied the right to protest but you do have to follow rules/laws (well it seems this group does not care about laws).

When it starts to infringe on other people there should be limits. If they are not bothering other people or infringing on them or their rights then they can protest as long as they want. It will be interesting to see how long they last in the cold weather areas. Also when we hear of crimes taking place with these protest they start to lose those rights.

Lordy ... I am quoting your cite - A cite that explains a govt. investigation into and the govt.'s request for significant civil penalties against companies and individuals in the the finance industry AND a cite which you rely on to say that fraud/misdoing existed. So ... the fact the govt. filed a civil suit that will likely result in significant fines [I]is evidence[/I] that fraud existed in the finance industry but it [I]is not evidence[/I] that the govt. is actively investigating or taking actions against the finance industry?!? :frusty:

Also, it seems pretty clear that investigations have been going on - in arguing your various points you have cited to several (including this one). Some have come to fruition, some have not. Criminal investigations of white collar crime are time & document intensive - believe it or not, it takes a lot more then "cause we think so" to bring and prove criminal charges.

[As a side note, this is one of the reasons that I think white collar crimes should carry much stiffer penalities than they generally seem to - b/c of the nature of the crime, they are resource intensive and generally difficult to prove so when a conviction is secured it generally represents a significant state expenditure. As such, penalties should be much stiffer to increase the detterent value].
