One, Yards/G is a shitty stat, but people keep citing it when they say "top 10 defense". Our other categories are out of the top 10, except for our first downs given up per game(;)).

EVEN SO, having their elite O is masking their glaring deficiencies(partly due to injuries wreaking thier secondary). Should Tom Brady have another 2007 Super Bowl moment and be tamed, this D of theirs will not pick up the slack.

Oh no doubt. I really don't think the Patriots will do much in the playoffs. They will likely win the first round (since they'll play at home), but I can't see them beating the Steelers or the Ravens to get to the SB.

The good thing about Denver games is that you only have to watch the last quarter. All I got to say is that what Denver is doing is pretty f'ing amazing. This is not a "I love Tebow" statement. At the same time, however, he ignited something in the team. He did not complete a pass in the 2nd or 3rd quarter but then goes 15 of 20 in the 4th Q. I have watched the last 2 Denver games and they have a ferocious D. Regardless of your opinion of Tebow, the Denver games have been fun to watch these last few weeks - you can count on at least two or three "Holy sh**!! That did not just happen!!" moments.

Yesterday, for example, I watched Barber break the line on his way to a sure game winning run in OT - he had just about hit open ground, then "pop" the ball is bouncing around. I mean, seriously? The guy has had a total (both lost and recovered by his own team) of 15 fumbles in 1118 carries and 177 receptions. Not like the guy is known for the dropsies. I bet they make it to the AFC Championship - where the magic runs out.

I will say that I am glad we don't have Tebow. I think he is a one year wonder who, basically, will never be a good enough QB to win it all. Next year, Tebow Mania will come crashing down as teams have an off season to adjust.

Our "top 5" defense was a illusion. We never got any sacks or turnovers and had this "bend but not break" mindset. Our defense also could never hold a team in the last 2 minutes when it really counted. This was a paper defense, nothing more.

Our performance in 2009 was slightly worse than in 2008, with said 40 million +incentives man being the "anchor". If said anchor was not with the D, then maybe our 2009 performance gets reduced from slightly worse to "much worse".

And we had NO SOLB going into 2010 either.

Not to mention Blache had a scheme that was basically multiple variants of prevent combined with predictable and easy-to-read blitzes.

Playoffs to the unmployment line. They were underachieving in that weak division, i know they had some injury issues, but so does everyone else. He got the the town in a frenzy back early in the season when he was at a concert and should have been at work.

Their injuries were still pretty significant, and very few teams are able to salvage their season after having this happen. They lost their starting QB, starting RB, and their best defensive player (Berry) to IR.

I'll be that guy and point it out: Haley was fired having a better record than Mike, who has more control as far as overall franchise decisions go. Another way to say it Mike is far more responsible for the Skins' badness than Haley was for the Chiefs'.

I think the Redskins have played better -- particularly on offense -- since getting guys like Roy Helu, Leonard Hankerson, and Perry Riley to step up. And I think having a running game has made Kyle's playcalling look good at times. I don't think he's good at this job in a large sample, but you give him a running game to lean on when he's low on ideas, and a line that protects it's quarterback, and the Redskins will move the ball. There's something to be said for that. This team was a total train wreck under John Beck, and they've come a long way from the dark days of Halloween.

But if the solution to the offensive woes were really just as simple as putting the best players on the roster on the field, how can we possibly rectify statements like "Ryan Torain gives us the best chance to win games" with the team being 4-9 and the coaches having any idea of where to go from there? It doesn't make sense. All roads lead back to the fact that the Redskins offensive coaches didn't do a good job this year, and they didn't do a good job last year, and this has caused some people to conclude that they are bound to do a good job next year, which doesn't make any sense to me. If they were bad in 2010 and bad in 2011, won't they be bad in 2012?

Part of what your saying is true,but our defense is worse now.We didn't have the personel for the 3-4 and we still dont.I'd rather have a top 5 paper defense with the problems you described then a bottom 5 paper defense with the same problems.

I tend to see it your way, although some folks on the board have shown statistically the defense now is basically as good as the average in the Williams/Blache years.

Two observations. The defense now seems to go long stretches w/o sacks or even QB pressure, which was probably the biggest complaint under the previous regimes. Although we never really waited to see how the AH/Carter/Orakpo experiment would have turned out. Personally I think Rak would have been best served at left d end where he wasn't asked to do as much in the old system.
Secondly, your observation htown that we still don't have the personal to run the 3-4 at an elite level is really the bottom line. We don't have a difference making NT. And we still need a FS regardless. A (new) d coordinator could come in next year install a 4-3 and we'd be better off than continuing down the Haslett path.

We had 40 sacks in 2009.29 last yr and 34 so far this yr so your sacks argument is an illusion.We had 17 takeaways in 09,27 last yr and 16 so far this yr.So we had more takeaways last yr,WHOOPEE,at least thats something

The are three more games to be played.

We added talent(RAK and AH), hence the spike in sacks to 40. We add more talent(i.e Jenkins) and play the better players(Riley), we can only further improve.
