Just heard this morning that Peyton Manning has stated he will ask for a trade if the Colts draft Andrew Luck. So i guess it is official. Let the Manning watch begin. Assuming he ends up being able to physically play again, where is his most likely destination?
I personally feel that Washington, Miami, New York, and San Fran are very likely destinations. Even as Redskins fans, we have to at least consider that Snyder has thought about what it would take to get Manning. There are a lot of positives for him here if he can play one or two more years. The skins could become instant superbowl contenders while still letting a young QB learn from the games best.
Manning might be beginning his coaching career at this rate. He only recently was declared healthy enough for another surgery back in early December. Not workouts but another surgery. And words like neck fusion don't exactly inspire confidence. Personally Manning should quit while he's ahead. He has the mind to continue his football life as a coach. |
Re: The Big Rumor: If The Colts Take Luck, Then Manning Could Be...
Huh? Clausen as a backup?
That's what he is. He couldn't hold off Matt Moore when he was starting in Carolina, and didn't see the field this season. He's a backup at this point for sure. He's young with upside, so I wouldn't mind him on the roster. I think if we draft a QB, keep Rex, and add a 3rd guy like Clausen, it's ideal. |
Re: The Big Rumor: If The Colts Take Luck, Then Manning Could Be...
Its not hard for me to believe that Clausen could perform well in this offense and challenge for the starting job if invited to camp.
Look, if we don't draft a QB we're talking about beating out Rex Grossman. The same Rex Grossman that barely beat out a 3rd string QB with no mini-camp or OTAs last year. Clausen is easily more physically talented then Rex Grossman. I'm not fickle enough to believe the book of Clausen's career is written after 14 starts and I didn't even like him very much as a prospect coming out. Heck, we should have gone after him last year. |

Saturday I have no idea about so I can't speak to that. As for Manning, IF it happens, it only happens if he's released and will not stop them from getting a QB in the draft. |

I agree if they trade for manning, but if he comes as FA then I am fine as long as he is heathly and we draft a QB to develop behind him. Right now we have to look at all options,if we can't trade up or think the price is too steep for either luck or griffin. |

Thats makes much more sense than any type of trade for Saturday or Manning. That would make zero sense and simply would be retarded. Might as well over pay Reggie Wayne and get Edgerin James' number. If its any trade for a QB it should be to move up and take one of the prospects.....................or a 3rd for Hoyer. Bottom line is we need to draft a QB, maybe multiple QBs. |

Manning doesnt need the money and all he wants to do is win Championships. I think its pretty funny people not realizing this is a very serious injury he is coming off of and one more hit he could be done. |

I also said if healthy and we would have to explore every option if we can't get one of the two stud QBs in draft. Manning to the Jets with Tom Moore already there still makes the most sense.

I agree with exploring every option and I wouldnt overpay Flynn either, but if Manning showed at Redskins Park to sign a contract, someone there should do the responsible thing and call an ambulance to have Peyton admitted to the nearest Psych ward for an thorough valuation. |

I'm sure a lot of these rumors are smoke screens, I just think we are in tough spot in the draft to get Griffin, so we almost will have to sign FA who can start in case we can't move up or if he doesn't fall. Big problem not many FA QBs that most Skins would be happy with. Worst case scenario I see happening is we don't get a QB in FA who is capable and we can't move up and are forced to reach on QB who isn't ready to play. |

Whats so confusing about this Weinstein thing to me is that it sounds like Manning & Saturday to the Redskins would be via trade, but everyone seems to be saying it wouldnt be......
Also i heard that his neck injury is much less serious than people think. Apparently he had a one-level cervical neck fusion surgery, which is not that big of a deal. I cant remember who it was but i was listening to on Czeban the other day and guy came on and said that NFL teams do not even note "one" level cervical fusions surgeries anymore when scouting for the NFL draft or signing FA’s. He said something like once its fixed its fixed and the odds of damaging it is the same as the odds of damaging a different cervical (rare). Its not supposed to be a thing that can become a reoccurring issue or jeopardize a players health. If you have more than 1 cervical fused then it becomes a big deal, but needing additional fusions are unlikely to be related. The guy did say that biggest issue with Manning is that he has missed almost an entire year of throwing and that Manning's may not ever be able to get his arm strength back because of that. My 2 cents is trading for Manning would be very bad for this team. The only positive would be that Kyle wouldn’t really be our OC anymore. Manny don’t need no OC. If we want to sign him as a FA then thats fine, but why in the world would Manning do that to himself? So tired of the cracks at the O line. It isn't that bad and good QBs that keep Defenses honest and punish the blitz can negate the pass rush. We had rookie RBs going over 100 yards on the regular at the end of the year. Get off the O-line already. They'll add more depth in the off season anyway. |

Re: The Big Rumor: If The Colts Take Luck, Then Manning Could Be...
Call me crazy but I could get on board with the Manning idea. The way he prepares for the game, the way he sees the field, I honestly wouldn't have a problem giving him 3 years at the helm. I saw somebody say this in one of these qb threads we have here on the boards, but if we signed Manning (no trade), drafted Blackmon with our first, and took a guy like Tannehill or Foles with our second I'd be happy with that. I think Manning could give us adequate qb play or even more for about 3 seasons while the rookie learns. And in that scenario we don't trade picks to move up or anything like that. Sure we'd have to pay Manning but we all know we're willing to if it comes to that. The only potential problem is that Blackmon might not make it to #6, but moving up a couple spots to get him would probably be a lot easier than moving up to get RG3 or Luck. The coaches need to explore all options and I'd be satisfied if they chose this one.

The Manning idea is starting to grow on me but I see McNabb2 each time I think about Manning coming to the Skins. As for Blackmon I'm all for that if we can pick up a decent QB in FA. You mention being able to move up to get him since he might not be available at #6..... personally if we could move up for Blackmon then we should be able to move up for RGIII. The way I see if I figure either the Rams or Vikes will take Blackmon at #2 or #3, but if we were to be able to move up to get him then RGIII should still be on the table as well. No matter what it will cost the same to move up to get either and to be honest I think if we were able to move up no matter who we had as a FA QB I'd still say take RGIII until he can take over for whoever the FA is. There is a bigger class of decent WR's entering the draft vs. QB's. |
