You mean like we did with Jason Campbell? No wait...Heath Shuler? wait....you mean Patrick Ramsey.
See, that's the thing, you don't know who's going to hit or who's going to miss. If you throw a ton of picks away, your team will continue to be shitty. If you keep your picks and your QB fails, your team will still be very competitive and you could do well. (49ers)
Are you saying the NFL is the same league now as it was in '94? And when JC came out he was being talked about as a fringe elite qb. I'm talking top of the class. The Giants gambled bigtime on Eli, and they've won bigtime as a result. Look at the qb's who have won SB's recently and identify all the non-franchise ones in there. Eli, Rodgers, Brees, Roethlisberger, Eli, Peyton, Rosthlisberger, Brady, Brady, Johnson, Brady in the last 11 years. All of those were considered franchise qb's at the time, save Brady in 01 who was kind of an unknown. My point is, as the league has become a passing league, look at all the recent SB champions. None of them won without significant contributions from their qb at some step of the way. |
Our defense is better. Our run game is significantly better. Pass protection and special teams are close. And I'll take our TEs.
It's really Eli and the WRs.
I think their defense overall is slightly better, and mainly because of their front 4. When they got healthy and had Osi/Tuck in there, they started wrecking kids. It definitely showed at the end of the season. Their safeties are better as well, but I think our LBs are better and it's probably a push when it comes to the CBs. |
Re: Official Super Bowl Thread
Good super bowl, not as good as the one 4 years ago, but still good none the less. Redskins beat the Giants twice this year, only team to do so!
I'm just stoked for the start of the next season now, FA Draft Training Camp. |

They had the core from the 2001 Super Bowl team and really only needed that QB to push them over the top. (lol...kerry collins) WE on the other hand, don't have all the pieces set. We are severely lacking in areas and if we blow our picks for a QB who may bust, then we will be set back years. However, if we maintain patience and continue to build, we can build this team into a contender while grooming a QB (noles/tannehill). Throwing your picks (this year and next) away for the "chance" at a franchise QB isn't smart unless you have it all in place. We don't, which is why you can't compare us to the Giants doing this. Also, Brees was a 2nd rounder. |
Re: Official Super Bowl Thread
I just want to see my team play deep into the playoffs and win a SB. Lotus could lineup at QB for all I care.

None of them won without significant contributions from their qb at some step of the way.
Dilfer, Brady, Johnson, Brady winning the super bowl in four consecutive years would have suggested that who your QB was didn't even matter at the beginning of this decade. Furthermore, Brady had two of the best QB seasons of all time in 2007 and 2010, went to the super bowl in 2007 and 2011, and lost both. If the world was truly as QB centric as most claim, the Patriots haven't been the same team since Tom Brady started putting up passing records. That wouldn't make any sense. In the last three years, there has been a shift in who makes the big game going from the team who holds homefield advantage to the team who can put up the gaudiest passing numbers. The problem with the QB theories is that Alex Smith and Joe Flacco pretty much did as much to take their teams to the super bowl as anyone in the game. And it's really not that hard to find Alex Smith and Joe Flacco types. But Patrick Willis or Terrell Suggs? Those guys are generational type talents. The lesson from this season is you need to have special players to make the super bowl. Multiple special players. It doesn't so much matter that you have one of the five best QBs in the league (Eli has never been one of the five best QBs in the league), but you NEED guys who can raise their level of play in the playoffs. For the better part of 15 weeks, Osi and Tuck nursed their injuries, sat out of practice, and let the injury report make excuses for them. And now they are champions. Apparently, to be truly great in the NFC East, you need to have great raw talents, who are willing to play up to their true potential for about a month. And you need an Eli or a JPP to keep your season afloat. |

For example, both the Giants and Pats would be middling teams at best without stud QB's. A big-time QB is worth the price. |
So what's the tally of SB championships per team now?
6 Wins - Steelers 5 Wins - Cowboys, 49ers 4 Wins - Packers, Giants 3 Wins - Redskins, Raiders, Patriots 2 Wins - Broncos, Colts, Dolphins 1 Win - Chiefs, Bears, Ravens, Rams, Bucs, Saints, Jets Everyone not mentioned has none. |

A big-time QB is worth the price.
Yeah, but what difference did that franchise QB make in Carolina this year? They still lost a ton of games. I'm not saying you need a full deck to go get that QB, but I'm saying that the Giants were loaded in 2004 with talent. It was fortunate for them they landed at the #4 spot so they could make that trade. We aren't that team. We have too many needs at this point. If we are 3 years removed from a Super Bowl and we are sitting where the Giants were, then by all means I'm for making that move for the QB. Right now, we aren't. Trust me, I want a QB more than you can possibly imagine, but not at the sake of risking it all. Trading 2 drafts of picks would be definitely be putting all your eggs into one basket. |

Osi and Tuck are on the Jimmy Fallon show. Damn, that fast?...lol I know it's being broadcasted in Indy, but you'd think they would be worn out from that game to do a show.

Mad props to the Giants,,,thank your for sending those two Patriot pricks home losers for the second time. Great win for the Coach Coughlin, the Mara family, the NFC and the best division in the NFL.

Someone explain this part of the half time show to me. At this point the phrase is just a parody of itself. Is some warlord going to see this and say "hmmm those American Hand Eggs, they make good point". I mean are they doing anything besides arranging the lights to encourage world peace?

For me it's not so much where they were picked at, it's the "franchise qb" aspect of it. Brees was also a free agent too. I just believe that RG3 or Luck have the best odds at being that guy we want. Neither of them have real significant flaws that they have to fix in order to succeed in the pros. |

Re: Official Super Bowl Thread
The Giants are more lucky than good. I've been saying that all along. That win in Green Bay was a fluke. That win in SF was because of two miraculous special teams turnovers. I will never root for a division rival ever unless it has playoff implications for my Redskins.

Ugh. I hate the Giants as much as the next guy, but tossing out the fluke angle is just weak. Give credit where it's due. They won the SB. End of story. |
Luck needs to be in the Skins' equation come April.
Yeah it does, and in the coaching and the health of the players and just team chemistry alone you need to be lucky,it's why it's so hard to do.

I was listening to the national radio feed on the way home from a SB party and was surprised to hear Coughlin and a few other Giants basically say that 2nd loss to the Skins really ticked them off and was the catalyst for their championship run.

That's the only silver lining that NYG won. They represent the NFC East. |
Re: Official Super Bowl Thread
Brady is on the downslide. He's still one of the best in the game but, considering how his last drive played out and the previous game it seems that he lost some mojo.

Brady sure didnt blow it on the last drive. The receivers that dropped 2 easy balls were the mojo killers. |

I don't think Brady could have been asked to do much more than he did.

Brady gave the Giants two points at the beginning of the game.
A morale boost it was not. That and the pick he threw were huge boo boos in that game. |

If that's Brady's downslide, then sign him to the Redskins! Can't help it when your receivers drop passes. |

Not to be picky, but Brees was a HUGE risk for any team given his shoulder injury. I honestly don't remember how much of a sure thing Brees was thought off when he became a free agent. Of course we all know how things turned out, but still. |
