Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
I'm with JR and mooby.
The Lombardi Trophy is essentially the "Best Team Award." Only the team with a Lombardi for a certain year can claim to be "Best Team." Anything else that happens in the season is just a lead-up to that award. And any claim that another team deserved the award is pure speculation. A Lombardi in hand beats two speculations in the bush every time. |
Well then. According to that logic, Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, and Eli Manning are better QBs than Dan Marino. TROPHIES MEAN YOU ARE THE BEST AFTER ALL AMIRITE??
Body of work.
No. The Lombardi Trophy, as stated, is the "best TEAM award," not the "best QB award." They are different things. Tell me, if the best team does not win the championship, what objective measure do we use to determine who the best team is? If there is no objective measure, then determining the best-team-not-to-win-the-championship is just subjective speculation. Or, as JR put it, a beauty contest. |
Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
Now your just being obtuse. Individuals don't get to claim they were the best in any given year b/c their team won and that simply wasn't the point I was making. Your "Team" wins the championship, your "Team" is the best that year. Period.
[As to Buster beating Tyson - For a time, Buster was the best - he beat the best and, until he lost, he was the best.] |

One step closer to the B & G
Is that speculation or insider knowledge? Got mixed feelings on it. Don't know much about him, believe him to be talented and likely a starter for us - but not sure if that is true or if he is too much of a headcase. |

I haven't heard anything to lead me to believe the Redskins would have any interest in Talib beyond the usual interest to any talented player should they be released |
Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
So, you are saying the Detroit Lions at 2-14 were a better team than the Redskins who they beat in 2010? Do I even need to answer this?
So, you are saying the Giants who at 10-6 (didn't even win their division) were a better team than the Patriots at 16-0? Absolutely not. You saying the a 7-9 Seahawks were a better team than a 11-5 Saints? **** no...lol Well hell, lets just have a 1 game elimination from the get go and forgo any and all regular season. Last man standing!! After all, that's basically what you are equating. It's not a hard concept to realize that the best team doesn't always win, but that's what makes the NFL (and NCAA tourny) so awesome, it's because it is a single game elimination and YOUR team has a shot in the playoff no matter how shitty they were in the regular season. If what you are saying is true, then by default, we are super bowl winners since we in fact beat the Giants and Green Bay the past couple years!!! MAKE ROOM IN THE TROPHY CASE GUYS!!! After all, one game apparently means you are the best according to your logic.
To answer your top 3 questions in order. yes, yes, and yes. |

Nothing necessarily shows definitive guilt on the part of any particular player (as I've been told), but it does reflect a cavalier attitude toward an issue the Saints were repeatedly told to resolve

Arrogance among NFL elite? A belief that they are above the rules?
I am shocked, shocked, that there is gambling going on here!! |

Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
I just noticed that Talib's charges were dropped. I am sure it has been discussed, but I cant see where. Anyway, if the rumors are true, than we should see some action soon.

We already know that the best team on the field on any given day won't always win.
Having a playoff is a horrible way to answer the question of which team is the best. But when we're trying to determine the best way to select two teams to play in the super bowl, it sure beats a complicated poll formula. |

I heard that the bounty on Favre was actually 35 grand instead of 10, but if what you're saying is true and we'll know about it soon, I can't believe the group of players that got suspended came out with the statement they did, that the NFL's evidence was a crock. That's some huge arrogance on their part, never mind the fact that they thought they could get away with it. |
Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
Word out of Philly is they've added Atogwe, no confirmation yet though

Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
Percy Harvin is seeking a trade out of Minnesota... I kinda wonder how much it would cost? (Presumably too much for us, anyway.)
|
Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
^ I'm feeling like making a Percy Harvin thread. 2 2nd's are a good possibility for a pro-bowl caliber slot WR, which we need!
|
Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
hmmm i dont know and wouldnt send a 2nd for Harvin, but I bet there is a player the Skins would send.
Percy Harvin is the much better Eddie Royal we couldnt sign in the offseason. This is a YAC type, big playmaker. |

Nah. I don't want to have 0 second rounders for the next 2 years in addition to the 0 first rounders we don't have for the next two years. Plus what's to keep Harvin from doing to us what he's currently doing to Minny? Not to mention the migraine concerns he's had in the past. |

I think the migraine concerns have lessen because of a different treatment he started receiving last year. He played in all 16 games last year. I dont think Minny would honor his request, but he is talent. Runs the ball, catches obviously and he would solve the kick return issue. Shanny would love this guy. |

Really feel like we're already heavily invested in the WR position this year. Way too much downside on this for far too little gain, imo.

Completely agree. But I think it is a really fascinating 'what if' discussion. Just like the Talib scenario. Worth discussing, but ultimately, unlikely to reach fruition. |
Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
Our FO has been working wonders with draft picks the last 2 years. I think we can get a bigger impact from the picks than Harvin. We're deep at WR already.
Griffin was worth ANY price we could have paid, but we need to support him now. |

Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
Robinson could and probably should replace Banks as the return man too.

...assuming he can hang on to the ball. Preseason was very rough on Robinson. I'm glad we stashed him on the PS. He needed time to develop. |
Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
Why are people talking about Robinson? He didn't even dress for a game last year. He'll be cut midway through preseason, as will banks.
|
Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
Who do you have returning then?
I really don't believe Banks will make it as a WR, so he won't make the team. Terrence Austin is a good option. He or Robinson should be a returner for us. I don't want Moss or Hall out there full time, or any of our starting secondary guys. We're already thin enough in the secondary to risk losing someone on a punt return. |

I'm only talking about Robinson because the people that are allowed to witness the practices won't stop talking about Robinson. Same reason why we all talk about Minnifield, really. |

I'd hope that TA or Robinson beats out Banks. With presumably three QBs on the opening day roster, I have to assume that we won't have the ability to hang on to Banks (which is fine by me). |

He has put on a bit more weight. One thing about Banks is he rises to the occasion when the odds are against him. Terrence Austin should be further along than what he is. Looking at what Victor Cruz did for the Giants last season makes me wonder if Austin could ever do the same thing. Austin was drafted but Cruz wasn't. I hope Austin can get more opportunities so show what he can do. |
Re: Around the NFL...Offseason Style
I feel Aldrick makes the team this year .... And Austin and banks don't ... So far Aldrick is having the better off season of the three, but that really doesn't mean too much ... I remember being excited when we drafted him but those two fumbles on the kick offs last pre- season messed with his confidence .... And he never recovered from them ....I'm rooting him

Insanity. Doing the same crap over and over expecting different results. Still after all these years of stupid trades and pissing away our draft picks, it amazes me how Skin fans can even mention "trade" anymore without having a flashback to all the stupid crap our organization has done the past decade. So without any first rounders the next 2 years, you want to also give up 2 second rounders as well. Between you and The Goat, I don't know which of you I want to knee in the nuts more. |
