lol funny stuff

Reminds me of my wife who has never watched an episode of BB, she knows the basics from what I've told her. But she wanted to watch the finale and I was like hells no, that would be so wrong and you wouldn't even appreciate it.

I told her I'll gladly watch the entire series from start to finish again with her if she wants. But you can't just watch the ending, come on now.

Might be cool to watch it backwards.

I don't do meth.

But seriously, I need to start from episode 1. Not sure if I'll be able to watch it on re-runs, or find someone who owns the DVDs. Or maybe I'll netflix it.

In terms of "If you like shows like____, then you'll like Breaking Bad." What are some examples? I remember this site being huge fans of The Wire, talking it up like its the greatest show ever made. I thought it was a good show, but not great. I'm someone who loved LOST, likes the first 3 seasons of Arrested Development, loves Seinfeld (re-runs), Chapelles Show, Dexter to give you a little taste of my choice of TV.

Actually the movie Fargo might be a pretty good fit because its similar in tone due to the dark subject matter mixed with black comedy.

I've seen portions of the Sopranos, it was a good show from what I saw.

It's on Netflix.

Try the first 3 episodes or so, although I remember being hooked right away.

No real faults with the show at all. Brilliant writing, acting, production, etc.

I thought the first half of season was good. The second was very good but got cut short during the writer strike so the end feels "Not like an end". Season two really builds on the quality and the show really takes off once Gus is introduced towards the end of that season.

Gotta just plow through it. By seasons 4 and 5 you really start to get the understand you're watching one of the best shows ever.

I did just that the past two weeks. I never watched BB and then caught all 5 seasons within 2 weeks. I have to say that this show was absolutely amazing. There is no way I could have waited five years to catch all that. My curiosity would have eaten me up.

Some thoughts:

Why in the fuck did Walt put up with Jesse for so long. Jesse was so fucking stupid it hurt my brain. I literally cried laughing when he picked up Walt at the airport in the meth lab camper. You wanted Jesse to get his shit together so bad because he truly was a likeable character.

The saddest part of it was watching the relationship between Walt and Jesse deteriorate. Jesse was oblivious to the situations that he put Walt in, and never really grasped that he was responsible for 90% of the bad shit that happened to his loved ones and to himself. Watching the events unfold with Jane/Andrea broke my heart. It's sad Jesse will never understand that Walt truly loved him and thought of him as family.

I highly doubt any show will ever match the epic level that Breaking Bad has achieved. Amazing characters, story, cinematography and acting all rolled up into one. I'm glad to have waited so that way I could catch all this epicness without missing a show or having to wait. :)

it's also great, cause all you need to do to sell it is have someone watch the first 5 minutes. that's it, you've just created a new fan.

Anyone catching Better Call Saul? I wasn't too sure but so far it has been pretty great. Really captures a lot of the interesting vibe from BB. And Odenkirk is really good.

i just dont seem to get it with Better Call Saul...saw most of last night and all the first episode. Lead role is decent, but the show is lacking imo in many areas. Kinda boring.

Was never a big fan of Breaking Bad

So if you didn't like that you probably won't like Saul...

If its associated with something so critically acclaim as Breaking Bad Im willing to give it a chance especially with Bob Odenkirk staring. Its not that i hate it but I dont like this kind of single linear plot structure drama. After 2 episodes, im like who else do i really care in the story about other than Saul who is a Coen Bros-like completely unlikable lead. It can be slow to develop sometimes and then too much bs in other parts.

I did think the desert scene was pretty genius though

First ep was kinda slow but it's to be expected. It ended with a bang though. I'll check out ep 2 tonight.

That Guy 02-11-2015 07:55 AM

Re: Breaking Bad Season 5

ep2 was better, but it's still lacking in the "why should i care" dept. it's decent, but not amazing so far.

Re: Breaking Bad Season 5

Yeah but what shows are truly amazing after 2 episodes? Even BB took a while to build up. It's like reading the first chapter of a book.

Schneed10 02-11-2015 12:04 PM

Re: Breaking Bad Season 5

I'm hooked, I love Saul. The best line so far was Charlie to Saul (James McGill), "wouldn't you rather build your own success than ride on someone else's coattails?"

Brilliant reference to the coattails of one Walter White.

Not to mention the obvious parallel with Saul making his first foray into the underworld in episode 1. Right away, he broke bad, and now we get to see all that takes place from point A to point B.

Don't put it past Vince Gilligan to make this show every bit as brilliant as his first masterpiece.

Re: Breaking Bad Season 5

I never really got the show. I got to the middle of season 2 and stopped watching.
I think that Jesse guy reminded me too much of a coworker at the time so I couldn't deal with that drama.

Now that I no longer deal with that, I might try to pick it back up and see how it goes.

BB took 5 minutes of the first episode. best opening scene, ever.

GoT's first ep was pretty terrible though. "here's 500 people and 0 reason to care about any of them." turned out alright though.

Re: Breaking Bad Season 5

I thought the first couple of eps of BB were slow too. Took me a while to come back...once he started making the blue stuff it all changed.

I really am loving the BCS so far though. I don't care about the pace. Most of BB followed roughly the same pace and I loved it. Only in the last two seasons did everything get crazy. Besides BSC doesn't have to be one of the five-best shows ever for me to like it. I think too many BB fan-boys won't give it a chance because it probably can't be as good as BB.

I think sometimes if I see the set up as the most desperate situation in someone life too many times then I know where its going. clearly see this in both series with the writing. Im giving it a chance, but the hyperbole of ground breaking is head shaking imo. The dark humor of the situation is why im watching.

That could run both ways you may be too intelligent and it bores you.

I most definitely understand Days of Our Lives but it doesn't hold my attention.

Obviously not the same thing.

I think if you're not patient enough to let character development take place then I wonder if you have ADD.

I have never once given up on a show because it was developing too slowly. I give up on shows because the writing/acting sucks. But not because it's taking time.

F'ing mericans.

OK let me rephrase. If your attention span is too short for BB or Better Call Saul, I think less of you, because you either have the brain/attention span of a child or just have no idea what good TV is.

Eh...I find it hard to comprehend how someone could not like BB. But I also know they can't comprehend why I do like it. So everyone has different tastes. I am not offended if people don't like what I like in terms of culture and arts. Now when it comes to football and sports in general...that's a different story.

Schneed, can you give us an example of a new TV show(season 1 or 2) that entertained you while developing characters too slowly?
