Re: 2013 Free Agents
okay, i had ten minutes, here's the skins i expect back (at least for training camp):
de kedric golston (redskins) lb lorenzo alexander (redskins)* lb rob jackson (redskins) lb chris wilson (redskins) s madieu williams (redskins) cb cedric griffin (redskins) t tyler polumbus (redskins) g kory lichtensteiger (redskins)* te logan paulsen (redskins) wr aldrick robinson (redskins) fb darrel young (redskins)* p sav rocca (redskins) after that here are the FAs i'd be seriously interested in: TE, one of te following: --te fred davis (redskins)* --te dustin keller (jets) --te jared cook (titans) DB - i expect meriweather and tanard to be our starters at safety unless we can get byrd. hall will be gone, we need at least one cb. --S - Jarius Byrd (bills)** s stevie brown (giants) -- RFA --cb dominique rodgers-cromartie (eagles) --cb brent grimes (falcons) -- injury issues and a rt: --rt sebastian vollmer (patriots)** other guys that might worth considering: --olb connor barwin (texans) - possible value pick --OLB erin henderson (vikings) --olb anthony spencer (cowboys) --s yeremiah bell -- more of a tackler than coverage guy --cb marcus trufant (seahawks) -- good, but 32 now --cb sam shields --cb tracy porter (broncos) -- health issues --G Andy levitre (bills) (if kory goes) --wr greg jennings (packers) - possible value pick --wr danny amendola (rams) I'd like to see DRC, vollmer, and byrd here, but i'd look at amendola or jennings if the price was right, since they've both had injuries and down years. same with barwin, he'd be great depth and has been overshadowed in houston. my 2 cents. |

Re: 2013 Free Agents
have you seen jennings stats this year? they don't exist. I don't think we seriously go after a high priced WR, but if one falls well below market, there might be a reason to look.

My stipulation will be that if we can get Jennings and Fred Davis at a similar price I will take Jennings and worry about tight ends later in the draft, which would give us a (more) dynamic offense. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
yeah on tes, i imagine justin keller or jared cook will be pretty reasonable, and they'd be fine at TE. i mean paulsen is almost good enough there, but not quite.

Re: 2013 Free Agents
Get Jarius Byrd or Louis Delmas and DRC and thats it.
Then in the draft you get Johnathan Cooper G 2nd round Oday Aubshyi RT 3rd Denard Robinson RB/WR 4th Leon McFadden CB 5th Shayne Skov ILB/OLB 5th Brandon Williams NT 6th |

They are the type of guys we never go after anymore, but while they have some behavioral issues, they are cheap talent that could be molded to fit in here. Honey Badger would give us our new punt returner and could be eventually groomed into a super athletic ball-hawk cornerback. |
Byrd is good, DRC has been horrible this year

Re: 2013 Free Agents
Byrd is gonna be hot this offseason.

Shayne Skov will be gone in either the 1st or 2nd round, that kid can play and would be the perfect replacement for Fletcher. |
Byrd is gonna be hot this offseason.
Yep! And do you think buffalo franchises him? Btw delmas is so injury prone. Not worth the money. |
Yep! And do you think buffalo franchises him?
Btw delmas is so injury prone. Not worth the money.
Without knowing anything else I say yes. However, does anyone know the bills projected Cap number at this point? With the Williams contract, plus several free agents, it might be hard for them? Found it....Their cap number for next year at this point is 105million plus change, without signing anyone. It's not bad, but its not great either, since they have quite a few decent players to resign. The Jets are done lol, 142 million is what they have on the books for next year right now! Gonna be saying alot of good byes. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
the jets are just proving once again that spending a lot of money doesn't mean much.
I think everyone here can relate. at least we have RGIII though. |

I don't think he goes higher than 3rd round. But he's a good player. We already have our replacement for Fletcher and that's Robinson. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
I keep forgetting but Talib is going to be here next year.
|
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Doesn't Talib already have a job up north? Doubt NE would give up picks and not try to re-sign him, esp given he's already made an impact..

NE just going for that ring. They will try and low ball him I'm sure of that. We have people in our organization that he respects. I fully believe we have the best chance to sign in the offseason. |

Might be resigned before season ends
It sucks to read that, but at the same time the bills do this with a lot of their pending FAs. I remember them talking to London back in 06; obviously he didn't re-sign. Best case is that the bills don't franchise him..but that could happen; it just depends on marios contract and levitrite their guard. |

You would think...unless he knows they'll franchise him, then he'll just resign.. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
If he hits free agency probably gonna be highest paid safety in NFL. So not sure how realistic it is anyways.

Re: 2013 Free Agents
For those with connections, has the front office started developing its wish list for all anticipated 2013 free agents yet?

Some preliminary ideas, but very rough draft right now. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
I just looked some up by team, the skins look pretty good to be able to resign everyone, unless Sav Rocca and Rob Jackson get crazy offers from someone else. Cincinnati will be interesting to watch, they have alot of money to spend just to resign their own guys.
PFF has a great list of free agents by position and team. Danny Amendola for hands and speed? Not a great offseason overall for CB & LB free agents. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Sav is having MCL surgery in the offseason. He's all ours. Who wants a 39-YO punter coming off knee surgery?
WE DO. Sav Rocca is a beast. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
We may need to replace Fletch too. Seems he's thinking of retiring.

wasn't really sure where to put this, but i like it.

Re: 2013 Free Agents
I want to point out Seattle's amazing secondary. Their one guy who wasn't drafted by them in the past 3 years, was Brandon Browner. He was a CFL free agent. So my message to the Redskins is that they need to look at CFL stars and give them some tryouts.

Chris Wilson, they know. |

....seriously?...I'm talking about good players not STer's and role guys. We need to keep going towards CFL guys then. |
It's very early to look at 2013 but I'd def like clady at RT, and a few dbs mentioned for sure.
I actually think if we get Clady we move T Will to RT. Not that Cladys a better LT but I think T Will would be the better RT. I see what we ask of our RT in the run game and Will would be a game changer in that role. |

DRC, Grimes, Talib, Sean Smith, Derek Cox, Cary Williams, Mike Jenkins, and Sam Shields. That group looks good to me. |

The big knock against CFLers is they don't have the 40 speed that NFLers do, but man they know how to cover and if you are like Browner and jam well you can rely on safety help on those 9 routes. |
....seriously?...I'm talking about good players not STer's and role guys. We need to keep going towards CFL guys then.
Because starting quality NFL players are just falling off the wagon in the CFL. It's a different game, has different skill sets and, in general, has talent that is just not up to NFL snuff. A handful of CFL players have what it takes to be a roster player in the NFL and most of those as only role players. Only a very few CFL guys are solid NFL starters and, even then, b/c of the differences in the game it is not particularly easy to find them. The Skins clearly scout the CFL and are willing to sign talent. If it was easy picking successful NFL talent out of the dross that is the CFL then everyone would do it. It's from 2010 - but here is the only list I could find. Recognize any of them? No? Think there might be a reason for that? It's not just the 40 speed. It's all of the physical factors - strength, quickness, accuracy (for QB's). If it is measurable, the vast majority of CFL'ers measure out below NFL talent. I used to watch the CFL in Baltimore and the game is just slower, the margin for error bigger. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun game and certainly some players can make the jump. As a rule, however, CFL players wouldn't make the practice squad of most NFL teams. |
