Its amazing that the excitement of having RG3 cant even spark this team. I just hope the Skins don't lul RG3 to sleep and make him like all the rest that have come here in recent years. This team will put his character to the test for sure.
As much as I love having RG3 in DC, I almost hate it. For his sake.
As long as RG3 survives the current regime I really think he'll be fine long term. His intelligence and skill-set are concrete, and he'll flourish within any decent system. |

No Goat, that was awesome. Didnt know the oil business was so strong in Colorado. |
Wade Phillips doesn't have our secondary. :D
Nope, he had a worse overall defense, and turned it around in one year. It's been done before, and will again, but not under anyone named Shanahan or Haslett. |

I meant what people say is irrelavent. Results are what matter, and Mike's results are the joke. |
Reload the secondary and see if Haslett can do the job. THEN make the decision. Remember, starting over with a new DC and/or scheme will not produce immediate success either. I think we need to see this 3-4 implementation completely through..meaning addressing all 11 positions on D.
Sorry, I'm too old and too smart for that! I want a win this week! There are things he can do right now but he's too conservative to do them. It's time to unleash a torrent of blitzes from everywhere on Carolina and see what happens. |
Check his rankings. I bet you'll be surprised.
Denver Broncos Team Encyclopedia - Pro-Football-Reference.com Contrary to popular opinion, the Broncos didn't win all because of Elway. They had a top 10 D 7 times under him.
You're right Matty I was surprised. What else I find interesting is while Larry Coyer was DC from 2003-2006 his defenses were ranked 9-9-3-8 in points allowed but in the years without Coyer from the year 2000 the rankings are 23-21-15-28-30. Pretty bad. Don't know anything about Coyer but maybe Mike needs to bring him back. I'll admit I was wrong about Mike NEVER having a good defense. But without Coyer those were some pretty atrocious defenses. |

I'm dead serious. If the Skins go down this week, I think they should go down swinging. I'm tired of the Skins defense sitting back in a zone and reacting to whatever the offense throws at them. I say we should smack the offense in the mouth first and cause them to make some mistakes. The idea of waiting until next season to get better makes me sick. If I were in Mike Shanahan's shoes, I'd tell Haslett to come up with some new ideas now. Last in the NFL in defense is unacceptable. |

95-17 96-7 97-6 98-8 99-11 Yes they were. |
re: Hey Ho, Haslett has to go! (or maybe not)
It will never happen but I'd want Greg Williams back. The guy can flat out coach defense. He's PROVEN that he can take a group of average players and turn it into a very good defense. He did that 3 out of the 4 years here and he did it in New Orleans.

If I was getting paid an extra $10,000 to break someone's clavicle, I'd be playing my ass off too. |

re: Hey Ho, Haslett has to go! (or maybe not)
Just out of curiousity I checked Gibbs defenses in both stints. Like Shanny an offensive mind that became a HC. Pretty impressive. From 1981-92 and 2004-07 he only had 2 bad defenses. 1988 ranked 26 and 2006 ranked 27. That's alot of years in between. He had 7 top ten defenses including a 1
and a 2 ranked defense. 4 ranked 11. And after his first year ranked at 16, only twice had a defense ranked below 13....which were the 2 bad defenses I mentioned. Pretty consistent. |

Wait till after... Raheem shouldn't be the only candidate

re: Hey Ho, Haslett has to go! (or maybe not)
when you look at our numbers, our rushing defense is very solid, even with our injuried players out-which says our scheme works. If we revamped our secondary with a new starter at FS, Merriweather at SS, J Wilson at 2nd CB, new #1 CB, and a round 2 or 3 CB or Crawford at the Nickle with both Orakpo and underrated Carriker back in the line up rushing the passer...I think we see a defense in the top half of the league, maybe a top ten.
I think so too. Engage. |

Never mind defensive coordinator, Raheem Morris is going to be our next HC with Sean McVay as the OC
|
re: Hey Ho, Haslett has to go! (or maybe not)
I think we all should just pump our brakes for a little while. Let me begin by saying that I have NEVER been a Haslett fan and was not thrilled about his hiring here. HOWEVER, we are missing these starters: FS, SS, OLB (Pro Bowler), LDE. Of course our defense was going to be complete crap, not many teams in this league can sustain those types of injuries and be successful. If we do move to fire Haslett, we should wait until the end of the year, but lets not crucify him for what I call "crap" luck with injuries that we have had all year...on both sides of the ball. I believe Haslett is limited in terms of creativity because you have to have some pieces to do that and all we have is pieces of ****. If anyone should be fired it should be our entire training staff lol
|
re: Hey Ho, Haslett has to go! (or maybe not)
Well to be fair, we were crap on defense in Week 1 with everyone healthy. But you're right, he's not working with a full defense because of our secondary issues.
The injuries are just starting to cripple the parts of our defense that were solid...you know, that whole snowball rolling down a hill effect. Just keep scoring and we have a chance. Also, catch the ball! |

Maybe 'hope' would be a better choice of words. Raheem Morris? We would set the franchise to 'Start 5 Year Experimental Phase' and I'd cry. On a positive note we do have RGII. |

We've given him enough time, fire the SOB already...preferably via email/ SMS.

Even though the simile is awful Cam will probably have his best game of the year tomorrow. Hopefully, the defense will step it up a notch. At least play for what remaining pride the secondary may have left. |
