Re: NFL News Offseason Style
Yup. Didn't think he would crack top 5. Halas, Lombardi, Brown, Walsh, Noll, Shula, Belichick. (Unlike all of those, of course, he didn't have a HOF QB - or two (Walsh) - to build around). Didn't see him cracking those. Each had either longer tenure or more championships.
9th best in 80+ years of the NFL and probably about a 1,000 or so head coaches is nothing to shake a stick at. What are folks top 5? Mine: 1. Halas 2. Brown 3. Lombardi 4. Walsh 5. Belichick I don't see how you can have anyone other than Halas, Brown & Lombardi as your top three. Halas and Brown fundamentally redesigned they game. Between the T-formation and coaches calling the plays, the created the game of football as we know it and won a gazillion games along the way. Lombardi ... they named the damn trophy after him. 'Nuff said. Never was a big Walsh fan, but, in terms of innovation, I grudgingly give him credit.
Gibbs did it with one good and 2 mediocre QB 's. Walsh, Noll and Belichick each did it with a great QB, Gibbs is equal to those guys and in my opinion better, plus he took them to 4 SB and basically had the Cowboys retire Landry cause he owned him. Screw ESPN! |

Screw ESPN!
Good point, but the flip side to that argument is that Gibbs also got destroyed in his super bowl loss. Also Walsh, Noll, and Belichick have/had the brains to draft those QBs and stick with them (Gibbs wasn't good at drafting QBs). Also those coaches--specifically Walsh (not sure about Noll and Belichick is TBD) knew when to get rid of QBs, and when they were past their prime. Montana to Young is one great example. When you're comparing greats with greats, you got to get into the nitpicking of things like that. Gibbs is great, definitely top 10, but I think Shula, Walsh and Noll are much better coaches than him. Belichick you can make an argument for. |

RIP Mr. Jones
"When I see guys huddling up after the game, to pray, that's what scares me about the game. I'm a Baptist, but I'm also a quarterback killer, and I ain't praying with you. But I will give you 30 seconds to ask your Lord and master to keep me from killing you." -- Hall of Fame defensive end "Deacon" Jones on what aspect of the modern game most upsets him |

Jeff George and Ponder are nothing alike. George only cared about throwing deep, Ponder hands off and throws check downs. Maybe they are giving George a chance to prove himself as a coach, although someone who was thought of as a coach killer seems an odd choice for that. I cant see any other reason to bring him in. |

IMO I see it as a three horse race until mid-season, after which the Fluffboys will fade. And the Eagles may not have to implode to be bad. They may implode because they are bad. |

What a waste of a 1st round pick. Apparently he isn't too happy about being played at guard so he's pouting and missing the OTAs with a new coach. Bad move. Got his ass sent packing. Not sure why he's made about being moved, he sucked as a tackle. |

Guy is a complete idiot. He'll know better next time he appears in a courtroom. That said, it's sad he's having to serve 30 days in jail for a slap on the ass, all the while Josh Brent is walking around free right now, even after failing a drug test. |
