The Pats averaged 74 plays per game?? That's crazy for the pro game. I'd guess that the average is in the 50's. I think Kelly will be able to run his offense. Maybe not at the college pace but he'll be able to go quickly. But in order to run as many as New England, he's got to get first downs and not turn it over. Not sure he can do that with his QB situation.
Avg is mid 60's I believe.

WHOA, Ish ripped Chris Carter

To be perfectly honest with you, Cris was a bona fide diva,” Ismail said. ”[T]he greatest guy that I played with was Shannon Sharpe, because he raised the game up for me as a player. I know there would be times when we’d get in the huddle and he’d look over at me and go, ‘Q, we need to make a play.’ Or whatever it might have been in that moment. And I swear to you it would be like, ‘Oh my god, I’m going to make a play because Shannon just called me out.’ And sure enough, boom, it would be there. Shannon was that kind of a guy that you just knew that he was in your corner. You couldn’t say the same thing for Cris Carter. You couldn’t say the same thing as far as his attitude towards his teammates. You couldn’t say the same thing as far as his attitude as far as the coaching staff. You knew that he had a selfishness to him that was an extreme selfishness.”

Could he flat out make catches? Absolutely. Could he flat out make plays? Absolutely. But there’s a reason why they didn’t go all the way and win Super Bowls,” Ismail said. ”There’s a reason why, that his talent was good, but when you talk about Jerry Rice talent you also talk about that team elevating it to the next level to win championships. When you talk about Shannon’s talent you are talking about that team elevating and winning championships. When you are talking about talent, there’s one thing to have talent but, to me, if you’re a complete, amazing football player, others around you rise up to whatever their level of talent is.”

Anyone think AD will break Emmitts record?
It will probably be broken someday, but Peterson won't be the one to do it. Through the first 6 years of AP's career, he's averaging about the same number of yards per season as Smith, but what made Smith's career so special was the longevity of it and the consistency with which he churned out 1000 yard seasons. What makes him breaking the record even more unlikely is the fact that today's NFL is more pass happy. AP is a great back, but not better than Emmitt Smith.

MTK 07-31-2013 10:37 AM

Re: Around the NFL 2013 Offseason (Episode 99)

It's hard to imagine anyone breaking Smith's record. AP would have to maintain an insane pace in order to do it and with how physical he plays, I just don't see it.

He has to stay super healthy. Even then he likely would not break the record until after the 2017 season, which is when he predicted that he would do it.

If Peterson had an offensive line and a defense as good as Emmitt Smith's Cowboys had, then he probably would come very close. But Smith was better.

It's a passing league and running backs are generally discarded around the age of 30. I don't think that record ever gets broken. New era of football.
it's a shame Barry Sanders chose to retire when he did.
Yeah, if Sanders had kept playing, I think he would have got far more than the 15000 yards he did. But maybe he knew he was declining and wanted to go out while he was still at the top of his game.

It's also a shame, however, that Clinton Portis wasn't blessed with the health that Sanders and Emmitt Smith were. Portis had more yards through the first four seasons of his career than both Sanders and Smith. Then came the 2006 season, the first year where he rushed for less than 1300 yards. I've always maintained that Portis is one of the most all-around talented backs of all time, and if he could have stayed healthy, I'm sure he would be somewhere around the 15000 yard mark also. Ahhhh, well.

Well I guess if going down hill means having a 112 catch almost 1600 yard season, than he had a down season. I think he should be 5th. Definitely ahead of Dez and Thomas.

I will always have the picture of Reed Doughty trying to cover Andre glued in my mind.

And most certainly ahead of Brandon Marshall. Andre Johnson had a better statistical season, and he's a mentor also. Marshall was way too high.

How about just announce the teams and not actually play the game. One it would still designate a outstanding season by a player and two it would not allow alternates to slip in. Basically the team would be set in stone and there would be no need to play out that IMO worthless game.

As long as it makes a profit for the NFL, they are going to do what they can to keep it going. I agree though, the game is not worth watching. The offensive and defensive lines basically stand around and its a glorified 7 on 7 game. I think the last real hit in the Pro Bowl was Sean Taylor laying out that punter.
