I hear the phrase "develop the talent" all the time, this assumes that late round draft choices are talented.(snip)
True. At the same time, you don't know how talented a player is until you give him a chance to play and get better. |
Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
The Redskins draft last year graded poorly because we didn't draft enough front seven and OL and the same exact thing applies to this draft. You need a stable of big bodies to do well in this league and now that we have a QB everything else is optional until these areas are replete with talent young and old. Sorry our holdover bottom tier depth players at those spots need to beat out better competition to warrant consideration. If we draft a bunch of secondary and skill position players again we'll be sorry. But you guys will eat it up because we're plugging holes again.

the coaches watch them practice, and should know if they can play. If you give them a chance to play and get better, they could get RG3 killed. There are exhibition games for them to get better. |
Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
Jordan Matthews has topped my list as of now as the top prospect I want at 34.

I agree if we go WR we should take Jordan Matthews. Was listeing to an interview he did on NFL radio made me say this young man understands what it takes studies lots of film on his own & with the QB'S. Go on you tube watch his highlights. Ideally trade back and still take him. |
Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
LOL:
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer emerged from Johnny Manziel's Pro Day unimpressed, calling the choreographed workout with rap music, "a sideshow." We love Zimmer because he's never afraid to voice his opinions. (It's also why he struggled to land head-coaching jobs for so long.) "The huddles and the different things and the music. The sideshow stuff," Zimmer said. "It was a sideshow. This one was a little different in how it was choreographed. People like that or they don’t like that, I don’t know." We probably won't be sending Manziel to the Vikings in our April mock drafts. from rotoworld. |

If you want Matthews in the 2nd, you trade back. There will be much better prospects available at #34. |
Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
I would like to see WR, RT and a true FS with our first three picks, and by WR I am thinking someone big who could play the Y spot with Roberts in the slot once the guy is good enough to play in the nfl. In any order btw.
If Hank could ever stay healthy he could be one, but that's asking alot. |

Or if you want Matthews in the 2nd, you take him. Don't risk him being taken if that is who you want. Better 20 picks too early than 1 pick too late. |

A strong line is the best way to mask deficiencies with the skill positions. I think that's what we did in FA for the DL, now let's strengthen the OL in the draft. Besides, Compton, Gettis, and Doughboy aren't going to be starters. |

Eh...I suppose if you thought he was a surefire NFL stud, you would take him at #34. But if not, the better move would be to trade back to around the middle of the 2nd, get another draft pick, and then take Matthews if he's still available. But taking him at #34 with lots of better players available is a reach, something we can't really afford to do with so many holes. I'd rather stay at #34 and take BPA. |

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
Getting Roberts and D Jax greatly improves or severe lack of talent at WR.
This move puts us in position to get a very good player at 34 and not a WR which imo would be a mistake. Their could be several Safeties, couple Tackles, couple ILBs and maybe a Corner at that spot when we pick. My preference would be to trade back a couple spots for teams wanting a QB and selecting Morgan Moses for Right Tackle. ^Taylor Lewan is a good player, but Im not interested in moving up unless we would take a FS, Clinton-Dix or Pryor. |

In my opinion, the best safeties in this year's draft class are Deone Bucannon and Jimmie Ward, but they're Strong Safeties. |

Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
I love draft speculation just as much as the next guy, but I gotta admit I'm getting tired of "we just need to trade back and add picks". Besides getting a lesser talent, just about every GM interviewed says that "trading back" is extremely difficult in the first couple rounds and not possible most of the time in those rounds. So can we just stop acting like it's an easily executionable option? Just sayin....

I hear what you are saying but BA has executed a first or second round trade in at least 2 of the last 4 drafts. So its easy to speculate he might do it again. |

New England trades down all the time..... as far as getting lesser talent, it looks like the difference between #34 and #50 could be negligible, however if a great player slips to #34 take him |

I would love to see the Redskins get Amaro, it would be better than NE when they had Gronkowski, and Hernandez . In a 2 TE package they would have 4 great targets that would be hard to defense. Redskins schedule workout with RB Marion Grice.... a great receiver as a running back, and close to 1,000 yds rushing with 14TDs and 6 TDs receiving

I generally agree, I would only say that if a solid RT is there, then we need a Safety at 34. I don't see us doing much on the DL early. |
Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
Best safety prospect I've seen so far- Deone Bucannon, Washington State. If he gets drafted in the third, this would possibly be steal of the draft considering the current value of the position.

I'm a huge fan of Bucannon as well. Getting him in the 3rd would be superb value. He's more of a SS than FS, and we already have Meriweather and Thomas there, but if he's the BPA in the 3rd, that'd be hard to pass up. However, his limited flexibility and poor awareness and reaction time in coverage are measured shortcomings.
|

Hey, that wouldn't be all bad...for a 3rd rounder, anyway. If he didn't bring the injury baggage that Landry had, would you be satisfied if we drafted Bucannon in the 3rd, and he turned out to have Landry's game? I certainly would. |
Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
landry got burnt an awful lot here. he played better for other people.
|
Re: 2014 draft prospects Early edition
I think Bucannon's much better in coverage than cbs sports gives him credit for- 6 interceptions in 2013 is better than the safeties rated above him. Before that 2012- 4 interceptions and 2011- 3 ints. 4.49 In the 40 tops all of them too.
