True but maybe he needs a change like cris carter did. Worth the risk IMO

True. I'd be doped up too if I played for the Jags.
Avril... Maybe.

Welker is 33 this year, we might as well just hold onto Moss.
Donofriose was just pointing those two out as examples of cap-friendly FA signings; I don't think he was advocating pursuing either of those. They're not FAs anyway.
Now that we know that we will run a 3-4 and a West Coast offense. I think we should target the following players. Not saying we should get all these players, just target them.

Offense:

Chris Johnson (if Cut)
Justin Blackmon and a third round pick trade for Kirk Cousins- I know I am going to catch slack for this but it would help both teams.
Emmanuel Sanders
Kenny Britt
Josh Morgan
Garrett Graham
Michael Oher
Geof Schwartz
Chad Rinehart
Alex Mack

Defense:
B.J. Raji
Aubrayo Franklin
Terrence Cody
Brian Orakpo
Karlos Dansby
Perry Riley
Aqib Talib
DeAngelo Hall
Jarius Byrd
Antoine Bethea
Cody would be a solid pick up, albeit a risky one. He's young and could fit right in as a disruptive NT and allow Cofield to move to DE (where I think he'll be even more dominant). Cody has had some knee injury problems though.

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents

Sometimes it pays off to take risks. Blackmon's value is at it's lowest right now. I would dangle a 7th rounder to see if the Jags bite. If he is reinstated and can mesh in our system that the steal.

I also think Britt can be a steal. Garcon is a guy who does things the right way in this league and maybe he can be an influence to one of these guys.

I mean if Blackmon can be had for a 7th, then sure but he is one slip up away from not playing for a year, but he is Worth a 7th rounder.

Nice ideas, Britt would be great but can he stay healthy.

So... you hate the idea of Blackmon but love the idea of Talib. Wasn't Talib a few years older than Blackmon now when he turned around his personal life? I'm fine with a troubled player or two, as long as you make your requirements and punishments clear. Blackmon has more talent than any person we have on our team - the question is can we get his life on track and help him use that god given talent.

I doubt we get Blackmon & 3rd for Cousins.

I am pretty sure he is already on a one year. He was suspended for the first four games this year for drugs and was suspended for the year after 4-5 games back. No thanks to that dude. I watched a special on him before the season and he presented himself as a guy who had turned it around then he was back on another suspension.

He is on an indefinite right now, we will see what happens, all I said that I would throw a 7th round pick to the Jags for him.

A 7th round pick for Blackmon would be a steal. Not sure they would let him go for that low of a pick though.

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents

^ They really don't even know if he will ever play again. Technically he is suspended indefinitely. I don't know what the Jags would take, but we could low ball them and see what happens.

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents

I don't think that you can trade a player on indefinite suspension. If I'm right, this whole discussion is moot because Blackmon is not having his suspension lifted any time soon. The case of Tanard Jackson would indicate that the Commish likes indefinite suspensions to sit out at least one complete year.
Stop asking for Nicks, people. You'll regret it.
IDK what happened in NY, but I will tell you this...I watched every single one of his college games either live or on TV and the guy has incredible talent.

He was always humble in college, and basically came out of nowhere to break tons of records in college. His hands are incredible and he has great body control to make amazing catches.

Now im sure once you get to the pros, and start getting money, your mindset can change, but I think the man is a good person, I dont see a risk.

Monkeydad 01-20-2014 10:32 AM

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents

What happened is the same thing that happened to DeSean Jackson. He thinks he's worth more than he really is.

He wanted to be paid Cruz money. After Eli's contract, he wasn't going to get #1 WR money. The Giants can barely afford to pay ONE #1WR contract. Two is out of the question, especially for an injury-prone guy who has shown he'll give up and stop trying if he's not happy.

Blackmon can't keep his nose clean in Jacksonville. I can't imagine what he'd be like here in DC. However if Jacksonville is ready to move on we should make them an offer. His talent level is too high and we lack talent at wr. I would go as high as a 4th rounder. If he's done what he's suppose to do he could be re-instated week one.

I'd rather have Cecil Shorts III.

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents

Well Dan Bailey is off the market until the year 2020.

Jerry Jones, who already has salary cap issues, just gave his young kicker 7 years, $22.5 million with $7.5 million guaranteed, a $4.5 million signing bonus and $3.4 million a year salary.

At least their special teams are solid...drafting a punter and paying a kicker before positions that actually matter.

Forget protecting Romo or having a pass rush, we have our kicker signed until next decade!

It gives him the largest total contract value of all kickers, more than Janikowski's due to length and right there in money per year, without the leg that the Raiders' kicker has.

Compare, only kickers making more than Bailey per year:

Janikowski $3.775 million
Gould $3.75 million
Scobee $3.45 million
Bailey, $3.4 million
Gostkowski, $3.4 million
...
Forbath, $1.44 million

Guaranteed:
Janikowski $8 million
Gould $4.9 million
Bailey, $4.5 million
Prater, $4.25 million
Gostkowski, $4 million
Barth, $4 million
Succup, $4 million
...
Forbath, $480,000

» Over the Cap- Top NFL Contracts: Kicker

This reportedly puts Dallas $22 million OVER the cap.

If we ever pay Forbath this kind of money, we're just as stupid. Bailey is good but paying him more than guys like Gostkowski, Prater and as much as Janikowski and Gould, WHILE already in cap hell?

I hope Jerry Jones lives a long life.

Just cut him. He showed NO motivation when he did get on the field in his contract year this season and this is a pattern of immaturity we need to rid ourselves of.
