Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
Don't see Clev taking Mariota. It would probably be Philly and they pick 20th.
|
Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
I wouldnt mind this guy with the six or seventh pick.

I don't see that Cleveland trade working out at all lol
|
Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
The reason i mentioned the Cleveland trade is because I read from several sources that the Browns might be interested in trading up to get Mariota. It was not a product of my imagination. We should all know by now that they are liable to do anything.

Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
I hear ya, with the McCown signing is why I feel its even less likely, but also dont think they would entertain both first round picks either.

Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
I'm starting to really like Danny Shelton. Our D needs help and where's a better place to start than right smack-dab-in-the-middle of the line. I would like to see secondary help, but the 5th overall doesn't warrant any of the talent we could have.
I prefer a trade but if we're going to make a 3-4 work we need a stud NT. then the following years build the front 7 around him. |
Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
So John Clayton said on ESPN Radio that if Mariotta is there at #5 that we're taking him.
Just doesn't make any sense to me. |
That would top all, wouldn't it? For once, RGIII would be speechless. :saywhat:
The plot thickens.
I would be speechless too. And this has nothing to do with RGIII IMO. It's just that:

The team doesn't have an offensive line that can help a RG3, Cousins, or a rookie QB.
Why would we go after another QB that has played in the spread system and would need to develop as a pocket QB?
If Mariotta falls to #5, it is very likely that they'd have multiple suitors to trade up, since the Jets will likely take him at #6.
|
Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
Mariotta at 5 would seriously test my "In Scot we trust" mantra.

the mariotta interest screams "if you want him, come and get him"

Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
I hope we take advantage of Chip Kelly's dumb moves and get a ransom of picks if he decides to trade up. Another possible trade partner would be Cleveland, but they'd be moving up from 12.
I heard someone on ESPN this morning, I think it was Bill Polian, saying that he believes Tennessee will likely take Mariotta at #2. |

That was brought up, but the Titans may not be thrilled or committed to Mettenberger. QB is a big need in Tennessee, so they may not have a choice. There's also the possibility that the Bucs take Mariotta over Winston (though very unlikely). |

Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
While I'm not totally sold on Mariota, how awesome would it be if we DID take him at 5 and he totally panned out to be a great QB. Chip would have to watch his former talent win in his division year in and year out.
A guy can dream right? |
Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
While I really want the Skins to trade down, I don't think there are as many trade partners as people think. There are some teams that need a back up/ future QB, but are they going to trade a bunch of picks to get a guy who will sit a year or more?
|

If we did that and unloaded Gryphon for something half decent I dont see that as a bad deal. |

it only takes two teams for a bidding war - keep in mind only 5 of the top 10 QBs in 2014 started as a rookie.... Aaron Rodgers didn't start until year 4 |

If I were Tennessee Titans, I would take MM. Locker is gone and Mettenberger is not a high upside kind of player and the other two QB's Charlie Whitehurst and Jordan Palmer are tall in height and that is about it. Titans FO likes tall QB's and MM is 6'4" 220. Chances are I think MM will not be there at #5 |

I agree, look for teams that O DEED in FA. Miami might be a team that would like to jump up. Miami are signing players like they think there a player away from making the SB. |
Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
Cam Erving is the OT I vote for
Vic Beasley at OLB over Gregory |
Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
First Draft simulator (obviously traded down twice)
Round 1 Pick 17 (S.D.): Landon Collins, SS, Alabama Round 1 Pick 19 (CLE): Cameron Erving, OT/OG, Florida State Round 2 Pick 5 (NYJ): Shaq Thompson, OLB/ILB, Washington Round 2 Pick 6: Mario Edwards, DE, Florida State Round 2 Pick 16 (S.D.): Arie Kouandjio, OG, Alabama Round 3 Pick 5: Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor Round 4 Pick 6: Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson Round 5 Pick 5: Stefon Diggs, WR, Maryland Round 6 Pick 6: Andy Gallik, C, Boston College Round 7 Pick 5: Chucky Hunter, DT, TCU |

if MM is still there at #5 and the Eagles offered the Skins RT Lane Mathews, their 2015 1st round pick, and 2016 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick... do you think the Skins should do it?

I just don't think the Eagles are the team to move up...I would consider cleveland, buffalo, Titans and the jets as the most serious canidates for mariota. |

According to him....."to good to pass up. May be long time before another opportunity like this presents itself. Smart move"
I wouldn't have a problem with it myself. If SM doesn't think the QB of the future is already on the roster and he has the chance to take a guy he thinks can be, just do it. Keim as usual hits it on the head here
@john_keim RG3 & Mariota come from the same system. How on earth would that be an upgrade for the Redskins? #jkmailbag John Keim: Good question. My initial thought a while ago was that Mariota would face a difficult adjustment, just like Robert Griffin III. It's not the exact same offense, but he certainly wasn't a traditional drop-back passer; then again neither was Andy Dalton when he arrived in Cincinnati with Jay Gruden. But this isn't about style, it's about personality and whether they feel Mariota can develop, because they're not confident that Griffin will. It's about a lot of the intangibles. People will scream about that and cry about some nonsensical bias, but just telling you the truth since, you know, I talk to people. If they felt Griffin would "get it" then this discussion would not be taking place. So the upgrade comes, honestly, from working with a different talented young quarterback. For what it's worth, I liked Griffin a lot more as a player coming out of college than Mariota. But I've talked to several in the NFL who like Mariota more -- nobody would have said that after 2012, but that's become a distant memory. Also: the two ACL surgeries have to be a factor for a guy who loves taking off from the pocket. Mariota is durable. The coaches do not view Griffin's failures as the result of playing in that offense. Ultimately that's the key. Vic Beasley at OLB over Gregory
I like Erving, however as a center, or guard. He started 2014 as a tackle, and struggled- then he was moved to center and was outstanding. There are about 7 good OLB, there should be a good one in the 2nd round..... I like Beasley- not at #5 though |
Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
Cam Erving (Ctr) trade back in 1st round
Eli Harold (OLB) 2nd round Best(OT) 2nd round Flowers/Peat/Fisher someone's going to fall Marcus Hardison (DT) 4th round These are a few picks I would like. |
Re: 2015 Draft Prospects... First Edition
If I had to guess, the pick right now is danny Shelton or fowler jr at 5. I think kevin white, randy Gregory and mariota are definitely in the conversation and under consideration.

How about an OLB to fill in Orakpo's void? With Paea, Knighton, Hatcher and Baker, they will pass on Shelton. They will go for Fowler or Ray unless Mariota or Leonard Williams are there |

He's a project that will not be ready to start week one. At this point this team can't afford to draft a read option qb. His pro day on confirmed that he's not a ready to be a pocket passer.I would be all for drafting Shelton at 5, but as you already pointed out, DL is no longer a need. With that 5th pick I'm going with either Vic Beasley or Shane Ray.

Well I think it's fowler jr or Shelton for his (McC) propensity to take large, big guys at their position. I think we see McC already making his first commitment to rebuilding the defense, especially up front. Now to think knighton on the 1 year deal is a cure all to the nt position is a little surprising. Dt/nt is a tough position to land in the draft and if McC thinks this guy can be a difference maker for years to come he will take him. Lol Schneed I always enjoy the way u ask a questions |

Certainly Williams would be in play if there, but all indications he will be gone in first 3 picks |

Thoughts? |
