Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Orakpo has missed 26 games in six seasons.
I wouldnt pay him much at all. |
Today at 4 PM ET is the deadline for Franchise Tags. Keep an eye on the Patriots and Devin McCourty. It costs $9.53M to tag a safety.
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
How much will McCourty cost? He is the one UFA I would be willing to spend some money on. After that, a solid blocking TE.
As much as I may get crucified for this, if Rak can be brought back for a reasonable price, I am all for it. Then, draft Shelton at 5. |

re chester and orakpo - at this point, i trust Scot's eye for skill set and Bruce's executive approach to negotiating. have to wait and see how the contracts look. while we hoped for more from Rak, he is still an above average player that just hasnt seemed to progress or improve as a player under Haz Mat. I love that quote he had when he was mic'd up "what are we doing out there? i dont know what we are doing out there!" maybe Rak could benefit from better coaching?
He's been here 6 years. He is what he is at this point. I remember last year when they were bringing in a OLB coach that specialized in pass rush moves. It was suppose to help Rak and he had one sack in 7 games. I guess I don't have a major problem with him coming back at the right price. There really isn't anyone else out there that's better. Rak's a pro and a good dude but he's just never going to be a great player. |

I don't want Rak back at all.

Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
To me, it makes zero sense to bring back orakpo. Why not develop Trent Murphy who was more productive last year, much cheaper, and much younger. I thought Murphy was a bit of a surprise, he played much stronger.
Chester, even though I would perfer not to bring him back, I understand bringing him back cause we don't have shit behind him.
Murphy is a strong guy and all but he has 0 pass rush. No explosiveness coming off the edge. Rak is a better pass rusher than Murphy but not sure that's saying too much. |

I agree.... McCourty could cost $8 million + Chris Russell reports the Redskins are interested in Suh,and Hughes too |

Dez, Pierre-Paul franchised.
I agree.... McCourty could cost $8 million +
Chris Russell reports the Redskins are interested in Suh,and Hughes too
I guess agents are still going to use our name as leverage on other teams. I heard a person (agent/exec?) on radio a few weeks ago tell this story: Maybe 10 years ago or so, there was a relatively young agent and he was told to use the redskins to bid up the price for his client. Young agent calls the redskins and says "player X may be available to you but it will cost Y amount of dollars." The agent said he picked a really high unreasonable number out of the sky. The redskins accepted without even counter-offering. They wouldnt say who the agent or player was, I guessing archuleta. thank goodness Vinny is gone. i listen to that dude on the radio and he cant form complete sentences. its like he blurts out parts of thoughts then cackles and tries to laugh his way through everything. he said bruce came in and fired everybody bc he didnt want anyone smarter than him in the room so bruce wouldnt look dumb. vinny - didnt you fire everyone when the DS brought you back after he fired marty? vinny rant off. that guy still bothers me. |

Chris Russell reports the Redskins are interested in Suh,and Hughes too
If you listened to him Bill Cowher would be our head coach, Jim Haslett would be headed to the Hall of Fame, Adam Carriker would be our starting DE and Tanard Jackson would be our starting FS. Dude is a fountain of speculation and bad information. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
The absolute dumbest thing this organization could do is go after Suh. If we sign Suh to an outrageous contract, I'm done

Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
I will say this about Suh- he is not Haynesworth 2.0, more like Reggie White.

The second coming Failbert Stainsworth....

I wouldn't say he is Reggie white, but he is a much more talented dt than haynesworth. But we are so many players away that it would be extremely foolish to dump all that money into one player. Just take danny Shelton at 5 |
I will say this about Suh- he is not Haynesworth 2.0, more like Reggie White.
I wouldn't sign Suh, but it has nothing to do with Haynesworth. Number one, he'd be far too expensive for a team that needs to be rebuilt. Number two, he's a dirty player and we get enough negative attention from the media already without him. |

EARTHQUAKE might like this.

I'm a huge Neild fan, but the dude just can't seem to stay healthy. I hope they hold onto him, but I wouldn't be surprised (or upset) if they cut him. |

neild reminds me of that DT we signed from the cowboys 10 or so years ago. big white guy, big beard, good motor, above average but just couldnt stay healthy. what was that guys name. this is killing me. he got injured for the season, came back and got re-injured in preseason. never heard from him again. |

Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
What you say about Bruce is true. I've never said that Bruce is terrible at everything.
But what's the point of being more cap-friendly if we lose more?
There is no point to comparing the W/L records of Bruce and Vinny. because both of their records were unacceptable. The difference between the two executives is that Bruce does some things well whereas Vinny was completely incompetent as Redskins GM. For example, I thought that Bruce put a good plan in place for FA last year which he executed well, although the personnel choices could have been better. That plan put us in a position to sign DJax to a bargain contract late in FA. Vinny signed a fat, lazy, selfish DL with a bad reputation to a $100MM FA contract. Now that we have a true personnel man in place as GM, I'm hoping that Bruce will prove to be a valuable resource in rebuilding the Redskins. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Bruce should stay on the business side, do PR, do charity ( "we're winning off the field!") and keep running the alumni stuff. After watching his press conference at the end of the year, he came across as borderline incompetent.

What ever happened to all of the leaks at Redskins Park? Now that Scot M. has taken over personnel, the media folks don't seem to have a clue what the Skins might be doing in Free Agency or the draft.
