Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...
I would trade Kerrigan for AJ Green (again, the current player to whom most talent evaluators compare Cooper) straight up. Tomorrow. Love Kerrigan, but AJ Green is a game changer in a way Kerrigan just is not.

... and to be clear, if Cinci called and said "Kerrigan for Green", you would turn them down cold?

I only used Fowler as he seems to be the most highly rated OLB. As to Beasley, if you believe he is the talent equivalent of Cooper - fine. Again, there has been much concern expressed about Beasley strength, if you believe it is not to a concern, okay.

If the choice is Beasley v. Cooper, which do you think has the greater chance at being a successful pro? Don't give me the "it's anybody's guess" "I'm not a talent evaluator" "I can't tell the future" "you can't compare the two" blah blah blah. It's a simple question, and I am not even asking your rationale. I just want your armchair, Monday morning, fan boy GM call: In 10 years, who do you think people are more likely to say was the better player?

As a follow-up, same "No BS" caveats, and out of the likely top 5 or 6 players: In 10 years, who do you think people are likely to say was a better player than Cooper?
Dez Bryant and his TDs are the only one I would trade for for sure. Maybe Green or Megatron. But the point I was trying to make was that even though Kerrigan may not be as "talented" as those receivers he's still more valuable because of the position he plays.

I think they'll both be successful. But I also think Beasley has a better chance of being worthy of #5.

So only a maybe a AJ Green or Megatron? Really??

I value pass rush over receivers. Is that weird?

No, what's weird is that you say you would keep an above average at best pass rusher to this point in his career of a top 3 WR in the game. I love Kerrigan as much as the next guy but that seems a tad bit extreme

Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...

take it to a neutral team, not looking at it from a Skins perspective, how many teams, given the option, would take Megatron, versus taking Kerrigan. I feel confident that more that 28 would take Megatron, and the same for JR's list down to Beckham. After that more might waiver based on the need their team has. That's the same philosophy that (hopefully) we see in the draft this year.

If there is a player whose rank outranks that of the BPA at a need position, you take the outstanding guy. If the outstanding guy outshines the next BPA, but a team offers you value above where you think the outstanding guy is (ie 2 1st's and 1 2nd for a guy you think is middle 1st) then you take the trade.

I am hoping that SM is given full reign to decide if the BPA guy is better than the trade is better than the BPA-Need guy. or whichever way it works.

Scot McCloughan's blueprint could mean Dante Fowler Jr. or Vic Beasley - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN
In other words, he doesn’t want to select a player at an area they don’t have an immediate hole. Like receiver, for example. There is no doubt that West Virginia’s Kevin White and Alabama’s Amari Cooper are two of the best players in the draft. Both could help Washington, giving them two players who can hurt teams after the run, and both are considered excellent workers. But though receiver might be a need a year from now (maybe not), what the Redskins need there now is depth. That can be found in the middle rounds. If they are far and away the best? That’s one thing. But in the first round McCloughan likes to draft best player -- at area of need. That’s not a 100 percent rule, but it is a general one.

What McCloughan will want is someone who can contribute in a big way immediately. Again, if they stay at No. 5, that likely means one of the edge rushers. If they trade back, there are good options along the offensive line for immediate contributors.
Came across this nugget while catching up on Keim's blog. Thoughts?

That's a lie. Any position can be found anywhere. Let's not act like if you don't draft a pass rusher in the top 10, then that player will suck

I would pick Cooper over every D player period..however he will not be there at #5..hopefully the skins pull off a trade move down a few picks and get extra #1 ..that way we can get DB Collins and a Dl/OLB ..we will have a pretty dang good defense .. problem with drafting offense without a QB we really don't have much anyway..what good is all the great wr if the Qb can't get them the ball..I would love to see Skins Go after Rivers..but not give away the house. Rivers throwing to our current WR corp would be very good!

That he could, and what I love is either way I think Williams or Cooper will be available, and if both are gone thst means Mariota is on the board and a potential trade down.

I want Cooper though

I'm not sold on needing a top 5 WR, when's the last time a team won a SB with an elite WR? And if we draft a WR, let's get one that's taller than 6-1. Let's build a stingy defense, we have decent receivers right now. Oline and defense should be our focus.

QB's , LT's , Press -cover CB's and Pass rushers are hard to find after rd 2 . That is because very few have the physical skill set , size and speed , feet , hips to play those positions . Rb , C , G and WR's are more likely to be drafted in rds 4-5 .

Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...

Cooper is a solid pick at where we are in the draft, my only question is can he be physical and how he does in traffic. Because he will not get the same seperation he got in college and it was a luxary playing at Alabama. I was reading where Chris Carter said "you cant play bump and run because he is so fast out the break"...responses like that always gets my sideway stare because we know for a fact NFL cornerbacks dont lack speed or technique when it comes to jamming receivers. Secondaries in the SEC certainly do. I saw Alabama move him alot in the slot which is an advantage getting off the ball.

Dose of reality: we suck.

We need more picks. I hope we trade down. But if we don't, I'm good with whatever McC decides is the BPA. Look at the players we have under contract in 2016 - we have needs at every position if you take a longer view.

I hope he does. So badly, but I can see Oakland taking him, but if he is gone, that means that Leonard Williams or Mariota is on the board more than likely so either Williams or a trade

If Williams is gone and Cooper is there get that kid here ! I'm tired of looking at stud receivers that GO UP and get it wishing we had one of those here. Once we stall in the Red Zone we'll all be here crying because Jordan Reed is the ONLY option we have won't we ? Cooper wouldn't be a bad pick in my opinion.
Is it draft day yet?
You said it! I think this draft is going to be very exciting because we now have some wheeler-dealer types in the NFL and there may be more trades in the first round than ever before.

The several possible Marcus Mariota trades is the most intriguing story line, of course.

As for the Skins, even if Mariota is gone when we pick, I suspect that we may still trade out of the 5th spot if the right player is there (Williams or Cooper) and the deal is right. The reasons I think that is because Scot promised RGIII that he would get him some big bodies on the OL and also because Scot is known for building the foundation by starting in the trenches. Scot may want to trade out of the 5th spot, then draft Scherff, Flowers, or La'el Collins in the first round. The trade would also give him an additional pick or picks to work with in this first year of his rebuilding plan.

If you're looking for a Red Zone threat, then Dorial Green-Beckham (6'5") is your man. He could turn out to be the best WR in this draft. High risk, high reward.

Indeed KI Skins Fan. However Cooper gives me more than just a Red Zone threat. I still have a #1,... well potentially a #1 Receiver if Garcon or Jackson leaves next offseason. But Green-Beckham could be that guy.

Not a big fan of DF though there are other guys that could be there that I like more. Some of the available OL, S, Edge rushers and other WRs I would have ahead of him. I see Devin as more of a 3rd round prospect for us.

Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...

You really can make an argument for lots of players at 5 overall. White's catch radius is about the same as Gronkowski's, and Cooper is explosive. A top young WR helps us move on from Garcon or Jackson when the time comes.

Edge rushers - you can simply never have too many. They're like pitchers. Leonard Williams would naturally replace Jason Hatcher.

I can even get behind Scherff at 5, just because he's an absolute road grater. He won't play a premium position but there's a major separation between him and next best offensive lineman.

So I say trade down and stock up.

I hope we can strike a trade down deal that we come out of with 3 top players (starters day one )..think about it ..if RGIII was everything we had wished for ..we would not have the number 5 pick..so QB is still the issue..what player makes the most sense on a team with a huge question mark at the most important position ..does a WR make a QB better? does a stud OL make a QB better??..my dream day would be ..we swap #1 with SD we land Rivers. QB is solved for next 5 years ..we trade RGIII for 2cnd round pick admit the mistake and move on …Have I lost my mind??
