Lol, I agree. Calm down, its just Byron Jones.

Nothing personal but I hope Jones is about as good as Claiborne.

With the pick of Scherff, are we still winning the off season? I like it.

Damn, looks like Randall (now picked by the Packers) would have been the better pick for us early in the second. Collins is more of an in the box strong safety.

Also, I can't the Jets passing on Gregory, but who knows.

While Randall is definitely the better center fielder, Collins has a lot more coverage skills than given credit for.
Personally, I'm weary of taking an offensive lineman who won't play left tackle at 5. I hope he works out, but I felt like a RT could be found later, especially with Williams on the board. He better be a beast if we passed on Williams for him.

That said, I like hearing we had him 3rd, even if I think it was a bit of a reach, I'll reserve judgement and trust in our new front office
I would agree here. Many had Williams as the best player in this draft and he was sitting there. Obviously the Skins had BS rated higher. Hard to argue with this pick though. It's fills a need in the worst way. The right side of our line has been Swiss cheese for too many years.

Two first-round picks
One third-round pick
Fletcher Cox, the team's best defensive player
Brandon Boykin, nickel corner
Sam Bradford, starting quarterback
Mychal Kendricks, starting linebacker

Yep, I voted no. And no I don't post much. #5 is too high to pick a guard, even though I think he'll be a good one. It was a pick of need, not BPA. Obviously, the trade down offers were too low in Round 1 to consider, so we had to stay there which is ok. All the pass rushers were gone, but guys like Williams come around every 5 years or so.

With our (hopefully) improved defensive line, the Sknis should take the LB Dawson from TCU. Talk about a nasty streak and he would/could replace Riley. His stats blew every other ILB out of the water.

According to a few media guys, Scherff was 3rd on our board, so Scotty was actually picking BPA at the time. They had Fowler/Cooper rated above him. I had some reservations at first too, but mostly I was hoping we could trade back a few spots (before Giants) and still grab him. No trades were presented (of value) and they made the pick. I'm happy. Remember how people laughed at the Cowboys for picking their Center in the 1st round? Now everybody is saying...."look what the Cowboys have been doing in the draft". It was hilarious watching some of the Extremeskins ppl go apeshit over it, yet the same guys bitching about not drafting OL over the years.

skinsy 05-01-2015 01:09 AM

Re: 2015 NFL Draft: Round 1

Yeah, this was tough because I've always complained about the skins not drafting OL too. But very good Guards can be had later in the first or early 2nd, but not guys of Williams caliber. I know Jay wants him to start working at RT, but modern day tackles are much longer than "I shot the Scherff", and his pass protection skills in college left you begging for a tackle to help him.

Would you draft Marshal Yanda, Evan Mathis, Steve Hutchinson, Russ Grimm, Larry Allen at the #5 spot?

I'd go out on a limb and say hell yeah. If he turns into a all-pro guard, this selection won't be questioned.

skinsy 05-01-2015 01:26 AM

Re: 2015 NFL Draft: Round 1

I'm not saying he won't be a very good, possibly All Pro guard, but I'd rather have Suh, Sapp, or Strahan over Grimm, Mathis, Larry Allen, etc. Dominant D-Line guys have to be planned around by OCs, and they literally can single handedly change games. But honestly who cares, besides Trent our O-line sucked last year so I'm not devastated by the pick. (Until I watch Williams on the Jets next year...)

Re: 2015 NFL Draft: Round 1

the only trade downs we could have gotten and kept the player would be #6-#8, maybe they could have bluffed the jets out of a 6th or 7th, but the top OL was going to the giants at 9. so at least we 2 for 1'd them by also making them take a worse prospect. It's hard to say he doesn't look like a good player, and he's one of the few OL that'll run and block 20 yards downfield. those types aren't easy to get, so here's hoping it translates to the NFL.

I mean, i might would have gone the other way if it were me, but i'm not down on the pick at all. time is the only true judge.

collins, gregory, and clemmons all on the board. wouldn't mind going OL/OL or whatnot in the 2nd.

At 2:42 in the video he doesn't have a block so it's like he says eh, what the hell, and knocks the guy the guard is engaged with to the ground. Made me each time i watched it.

Thing is, if you take Williams, assuming no trades that made sense, then at your next pick, who are you taking? Especially as the draft went, you would go from the top OL guy to a middle of the pack at best. I hate to reference the Cowboys positively, but look what Callahan did there. They invested in OL early and their line is pretty :puke: good. I expect Callahan will take Trent and Scherff, and use Moses as the swing backup. Add in Long and our line can effectively maul defenses. I wouldn't be surprised to see a big G/C guy in the 3rd/4th round.

We should trust his judgement. Keep in mind that we've had rbs, wr, and te drafted in the top ten. I don't believe that anyone of these positions are more important than neither tackle position, but that's just my opinion. Stop listening to those pretenders on ESPN and the NFL Network. If they ever work in anyone's front office. They are only on these networks because they weren't very good at their jobs. If they never worked in anyone's front office it's safe to say that they're not experts.

That's why you bring in a guy like Bill Callahan. I'm sure he had input on the pick and is confident he can coach him up.

Because trading up 4 picks is kind of stupid. Tennessee won't take him, they just signed Rak and they need weapons for Mariota, Jacksonville just took Fowler, the Raiders drafted Khalil Mack last year but could draft him, and how much defense can the Jets draft before they try to help the offense?

With all the off the field issues he's had, he probably should stay away from little stunts like these. I know it was only "crab legs", but as I said, it just shows immaturity.
