Re: Media Bias
Can you clarify on this "liberal media" thing Chico? Because these allegations are front page news now, on every outlet.
I agree with you, it's pretty despicable that Hollywood supported him over the years even though they had to know about the allegations. But it's also fairly easy to see why women waited until now to speak up, clearly they were in danger of being blacklisted if they tried to put it in public. Makes sense for people like Paltrow/Jolie to speak up now that they have established reputations. And I agree about people like Roman Polaski, Woody Allen, etc. how people continue to ignore the widespread allegations because of their industry cred is beyond me. Like I was telling my coworker, am I going to stop watching movies produced by The Weinstein Co. because Harvey is clearly a shithead? No, for the same reason I continue to buy Nestle products despite their rep as a company that places profit over everything, including people's lives.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/did-the-media-help-harvey-weinstein-lure-his-prey-and-smear-his-accusers/2017/10/10/705b4bf2-adf5-11e7-9e58-e6288544af98_story.html?utm_term=.75317b1e055d Did the media help Harvey Weinstein lure his prey and smear his accusers? liberal media gave him a pass for 15+ years...liberal Hollywood gave him a pass for 15+.....now, Im now gonna explain the interest..its fairly obvious. Its also clearly obvious both of these institutions are inherently liberal. Hollywood and the Media. And its clear neither of these institution hold no moral weight in telling the American people how to live and how to think. Its clear. |

Pretty sure they were lured by his status as the head of one of the most powerful companies in Hollywood, and the knowledge that working with him could elevate their careers like few others could. If you're a young actor trying to find work in Hollywood, of course you'd take the call, or arrange the face to face meeting. Unless you knew other insiders how would you know his reputation for sexually harassing young talent? Also why do you feel the need to blame the entire media for the journalists he had on his payroll, the ones that he used to discredit victims when they tried to speak out? There's no evidence he had the entire media willing to put out smear campaigns whenever he needed it. Did he have more than a few? Yes, probably. But like everything else you think a select few represents the industry as a whole. Also, finally, the only reason I watch movies are the same reason I watch sports, it's distracting entertainment that takes me away from reality for a little bit at a time. Anybody who takes cues on how to live and think from a for-profit business probably needs to get a grip. It's just like your President fooling you into thinking he's not using his position for personal gain, trying to eliminate the estate tax, or going to his golf courses every weekend so the gov't has to pay his company every time they're there. You're a hypocrite just like the rest of them Chico. You pick and choose what to be angry about, and you ignore the obvious that everyone else can see. |
Re: Media Bias
I don't agree that it's a liberal media thing, I mean MSNBC has had several Weinstein stories on the front page. But late night tv ignoring it definitely looks bad, and it seems like the only reason he got fired is because everyone else at The Weinstein Co. wants to avoid the backlash, not because they care about the allegations. If a stink hadn't been raised he'd probably still be employed today.
I can see why late night is avoiding the story, it's because they probably know him personally and don't want to pile on. I doubt they didn't know about the allegations beforehand, everybody has a rep. Clearly they are trying to avoid getting involved with the situation. Edit: This is literally the lead story on MSN right now, idk how you can call it a liberal bias Chico: Harvey Weinstein Scandal: Bombshell New Yorker Piece Alleges Mogul Raped Women
First, the story has become so big that it HAS to be covered. Notice they waited almost a week to say anything. Also, there is nowhere the coverage of this story by MSN as after the Trump tape came to light. Yes, there is a very big main-stream-media liberal bias. When CNN/MSNBC/MSN etc take the LEAD on a story like this, we can talk. |

Is it true that Harvey probably had people in the media that he paid to put out smear campaigns? Obviously. Are they the same enablers, like his secretary, that allowed the behavior to continue over the years? Yes. Does he also have other enablers that stood by and did nothing? Yes. Does that mean those that were silenced for fear of having their careers and reputations ruined are guilty of enabling it? No. Is that representative of the industry as a whole? No. Quit being lazy and spreading the blame to the entire industries of Hollywood and the media, and do the legwork to pinpoint the people who helped him along the way. |

I hear you but dealing with a bully especially one with as power as him, man it takes some strength. In my neighborhood over the past year we had a adult bully. His son would also bully the other children. He would attack certain people and charm others he built quit a web. Even when folks would raise the red flag others would come to his aid or his web of lies would distort the truth. It took neighborhood meetings, video taping his behavior, protective orders, court appearances, police, etc...to final get him out of our neighborhood. He is a 40 year old sociopath bully who has never had a job and basically is enabled by his mom and wife. He was 200 pounds of pure muscle and his hobby was BJJ. He go around threatening women, children, and other guys. He was very calculated in how he did it so it was extremely hard to get the police to do anything or other folks in the neighborhood to believe you. At one point he is going around telling everyone he is being bullied by neighborhood. It was just so frustrating for all that were involved. They finally after being ostracized by the entire neighborhood they moved in June. He was also abusing his family as well, which is super frustrating was his wife was just as much of the problem as him; most likely out of fear for her well being but she would cut your throat to save him no doubt. My point being is any bully situation especially this one is very complex. After going through my situation I can see how folks can be manipulated and/or simply not see the whole story. When folks in my neighborhood would be on the bully side I would say they are under his spell. Even at one point I was good friends with him but I was under the spell. |
Re: Media Bias
It’s a complex situation no doubt, but my point was blaming the media is missing the mark.

Re: Media Bias
Speaking of media bias, where's the national coverage on this? White guy plants bomb in Asheville airport last Friday, tries to start a war on US soil. Luckily they disabled the bomb and arrested the guy (he was fairly easy to track down apparently) but this isn't big news?
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/10/10/north-carolina-airport-bomb-suspect/749938001/ |
Re: Media Bias
Not just blaming media, but we know for a fact there was a story that was effectively killed by people in the entertainment industry essentially vouching for his behavior. That was like over 10 years ago...."he is one of us"...this same treatment given to others? highly unlikely.
Its pretty clear to see this guy was enabled within the institution of Hollywood who was effective in suppressing the media who effectively knew but chose to look the other way until what? 20 years later? psssh Polanski, Allen, Cosby, etc...its all the same song. Just remember folks, when Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Meryl Streep are telling you who to vote for, how you should act, etc. You just look at them and laugh...they know very little of the real world. Its proven. |

Everything is interconnected these days, which is why it's hard to pin the blame on the people responsible. But that's what you should be doing instead of blaming the industry as a whole. Blaming the industry for what certain people do is lazy. |
Re: Media Bias
We don’t like to acknowledge that white Americans are our biggest terrorist threat
As in most countries, since the period of modern time...typically the greatest threats have been from its own people. The label "terrorist" or the definition which is thrown around so much today it really holds no value. The distinction is broad. MS-13, confederacy in the civil war, this guy in Las Vegas, the guy who shot the Arizona Senator lady, the crazy group in Oregon who held on to a state park a couple years ago, boston bombers, these are all terrorists from the what I hear these day. Its not restricted to race imo and yeah I guess since white people are the majority by a good bit, sure, Id put my money on violent acts by crazy people being white. People are so dang mad that Islamic terrorism has cornered the market on the terrorist label in the last 20-40 years...in some way they feel like facts cause some sort of oppression. But yet here we are still fighting a global war against them still. |

That could be turned around on you! There are "opinion shows" and then there is the news. Many Americans can tell the difference.just as their are "opinion pieces in Newspapers, people new it was a "columnist who wrote it and their opinion .Now you have people on the internet tell the world that some Joe Smo's blog is news becuase they can provide a link to it and then others call that the MSM,No,it's cheap and it's lazy to blame the media for everything and it is most definitely lazy to call all media the "liberal media" ,you act like FOX Media doesn't exists. |

very interesting. This is like the 3rd story ive run across about Russia elements investing in stoking racial tensions across the country, but yet these stories don't make national news orgs even when the two topics are race and Russia... this is in the money section of cnn...why wouldn't this make the front page ? Re: Media Bias
The reports about Russia and russian trolls that I have seen mostly have been Russia instigating liberals and trying to get them riled up. I have believed all along that the Democrats "doth protest too much" on Russia especially. If we ever get to the real truth, I am guessing Russia played both sides of the aisle, just like corporations, PAC's and all the other influencers of US politics.

Re: Media Bias
Can I also add -
This issue about Trump's call to the fallen soldier's family is total BS. When I served in the 90's it was a point of pride that we served our country not because we were drafted or forced but because we volunteered. I can't think of one of the soldiers in any of the units I served in that would have taken offense to that fact being expressed in a condolence call. I also think it shows the extreme left's misunderstanding of core US values. To the representative she took it as a slight (however Trump phrased it) or an in your face comment, when in reality the statement - we soldiers know what we signed up for - is always(when commanders in the field say it, when said to one another, etc) intended to reflect the greatest lengths of sacrifice one has gone and offered to our country. |
Re: Media Bias
Trump isn’t exactly a smooth talker so I’m sure his delivery was the problem. Plus not knowing the soldier’s name probably isn’t a good look.

How many more anti-abortion/family values Congressmen telling their pregnant mistresses to get an abortion, or anti LGBTQ Congressmen secretly being gay do we need to find before you start thinking this is a problem contained to Hollywood? There are very few people in the upper echelons of society living what they preach. It's a widespread problem. That article I posted sums it up easily. Nobody said or did shit because Harvey was the golden goose in Hollywood. If you were with him, he could make your career take off, and give you access to the most private functions there are. If you were against him, you most likely ended up blacklisted and shunned in the industry. I'm also sure he kept the rapes as close to a secret as possible, i.e. there were only a select few that probably knew about it. While I'd like to say they are just as bad as he is, who knows. Maybe he was holding the threat of blacklisting over their heads too. |

So in these cases in Hollywood Quienton Tarentino, Matt Damon, Meryl Streep, and Ben Afflack (titans in the industries) are allowed to look past this type of behavior, be an apologist for it...and then tell the rest of the nation how to live and vote? POINT AND FUCKING LAUGH at these proven hypocritical folks.
Way to turn a blind eye, I made the comparison clear. People in position of power abuse it across all industries and everybody turns a blind eye because they fear the repercussions. Yes, they are hypocrites. I've already conceded that. What about Roger Ailes? Bill O'Reilly? Your president? All of them have multiple sexual harassment accusations, and your president is even on video talking about how his power allows him the opportunity to grab women by the pussy. Yet I guess they get a free pass because of all the good they do for the country. Also, quick question Chico. Scenario here: You are trying to jumpstart a career in an unforgiving field where it's already hard to break in. A major player in the field takes you under his wing, gives you a massive opportunity. You say yes, of course you would. Next thing you know you either hear rumors of, or are subjected to, extreme harassment bordering on assault. What do you do? |
