Can't assume that all the candidates the fans are interested in, or all the candidates Jay is interested in, even want a job with the Redskins. It's a two-way street, and like you said, it's only been about a week since most of their seasons ended. These guys all have lives, and schedules to work with, families to talk things over with...possibly other teams to reach out to. I'm fairly confident they are working in a methodical manner to improve the team as best they can. Give it a minute :joecool:
True. I just don't want the Redskins to wind up with Joe Barry 2.0. Or maybe Haslett 2.5?

One thing about taking the DC job here, if the team has a bad season Gruden is probably blown out of here. He's going into year 4 w/ no extention. Some of the top assistants may not want to come here for that reason. There may be a new HC here in 2018.

In Snyder's 18 years of ownership he has never extended a head coach.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry

If we improve the defense (and retain Cousins) I'll have a much more optimistic view of our record for the upcoming season. I think this year I thought we'd have an improved team with a worse record. Not sure how much we improved, but our record was still damn good. Fix the D, I think we go 10-6 or better.

well our 12 year old OC is smarter than our current coach, so he's gonna take him to the Rams. Im gonna be super pissed if this occurs.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry

With Vance Joseph becoming the Broncos new head coach and Sean McDermott possibly becoming the Bills new head coach, there's going to be at least two other teams in need of finding a defensive coordinator. So, IMO, I think this might force the Redskins to speed up their search a bit.

good point...and to be honest, they (and the rest of us) knew Barry was going to be gone weeks ago.

The short list should've been whittled down by now.

So, you want the Redskins to move more quickly on their DC search. Is that correct? I just want to make sure that's what you're trying to get across to us.

If you were WP would you take this job? I wouldn't. Not sure how he's going to feel working for a wet behind the ears 31 year old coach either....

He wanted the job two years ago, if that means anything now.

Why wouldn't he? Gruden has shown he's a competent head coach. The offense is capable of winning games. And the owner is willing to spend for players. Unless he wants a head coaching job, which I doubt, this is as good a job as most available.

Wilks is out...unless we call Wade within 24 hours we choosing between pettine and Bradley

I haven't been on in a while. What up Warpathers!

For me, I would like to see the skins hire either Wade Phillips or Mike Pettine as DC. Gus Bradley seems like he has been in the right place at the right time for promotions. In Tampa, in Seattle, how much did he control actually control or run as DC? As head coach with the Jags, he was very bad. His defenses were uninventive or inspiring and literally pissed off the players.

Pettine's team had good defenses and he took the wrong job in Cleveland,

Wade is by far the best candidate and if we are going to interview him, we better move quickly because McVay has made it known that he will take Wade to be his DC if he is hired.

Welcome back dhs! I agree with your points, although I would be alright with Bradley because he does have a track record of success with the Seahawks.

Right now I would rank my list like this.

#1: Phillips
#2: Pettine
#3: Bradley

#78: Greg Manusky

I agree, except manusky I have at #367,291. I got him wedged between #367,290 Ham Sandwich and #367,292 Dog Turd on the side of the road.

Re: Gruden fires defensive coordinator Joe Barry

Bradley is the top of my list. He runs the 4-3 nascar scheme which is my favorite defense and i think we are closer to personnel for a 4-3 then we are a 3-4 which is sad and shows the incompetence this front office has had before Scot showed up.

On that note. We know Scot can draft for a defense run by Bradley and that point shouldnt go ignored.

He must really hate ham sandwiches if they're that close in rankings to a dog turd.

If the ham sandwich has a slice of provolone on it, then you have to rate the ham sandwich higher than 367,290. I would put it up there at #200 on my list.

“We try to fit what the players can do in the defense rather than saying, ‘OK, we’re a 4-3 or we’re a two-gap 3-4,’ ” Phillips said. “We’re a team where if a guy can stunt and rush the passer, we let him do that. If a guy is a power guy, we try to let him be that. It’s all what individual players can do.”

This is one of the traits Barry lacked.

Excellent point by Keim:

1 thing to keep in mind: if you're a wanted DC do you go to team w/coach in 4th yr who might end up on hot seat or w/1st yr. job security.

I'd rather win and the Rams suck bad and they'll suck bad next year too. Wade wasn't my # 1 choice anyways. I don't really care that we didn't get him. Have fun winning 6 games next year. Seems like Bradley and Wilks are gone too. Let's get Pettine.
Phillips was not happy with the "talent" on the Redskins defense
I can only speak for myself but I'm not happy with the talent on our defense either. Keepers are Norman, Breeland, Kerrigan, and Baker. The 2nd tier is Fuller/Cravens/Smith/Murphy, aka guys who might be good someday but still need time to develop. Everyone else is replaceable. If Baker walks we are 0-3 on d-line starters, both Compton and Foster are replaceable at mike, and both safeties are replaceable. That's more than "a couple pieces" away.

If couple means 7. We're only a couple pieces away on defense lol.

But we do have good cap and extra picks . If we have a good off season we can be a much better (not elite or anything) on defense.

But we're definitely going to be way better than the Rams.
