He probably did have a family member to pass, but he had been muzzled since the end of January.

It's just a horrible time for him to miss. Hopefully he's left the combine in good hands.
It's all about Gruden. He's in the room for the interviews. He should be the opinion they listen to. I do think he gets it and I trust him.

Doug Williams was a Super Bowl Winning QB, so I think he probably gets it. But Gruden's the one with the vision for what he wants the team to be.

Hopefully Allen's smart enough to lean on Jay.

Aka... Scot will be back when he sobers up. It's so damn obvious that he had a relapse or went on a binge.

The Redskins need someone in PR thst knows that hell they're doing. For a big huge operation they come across as fools. Someone needs to sit folks down over and give them a lesson on PR. For me it all started with the head coach basically talking smack about SM's first round picks. I mean how does your head coach say.. " yeah our 1st round picks the last few years is a guard and the other didn't play".. could you imagine Gibbs saying that? Now the shit show keeps going with Cooley and this mess with SM.

Sometimes I think Snyder likes this shit cause it keeps his team in the news. Being a professional operation like Pittsburgh probably bores him to death . Like I said, I feel SM's days are numbered here.

Yeah, ultimately, it's your head coach that needs to say this is a guy we want to draft or not. And I think there is a respect and trust between Jay and Scot. I just hope once McCloughan returns, everything will be back to "normal" and all the speculation will be behind us.

Preach. First, admit u have a problem...and I'm not talking about Scott....I'm talking about the constant mishandling of shit. And then u let it turn into drama.

McC has shown results quickly....he better stay. I have zero fuckin faith in bruce.

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?

I think the PR issues have less to do with the PR problems and more to do with the likes of Snyder and Allen (and past FO big shots) being boobs about PR. They've hired well respected PR types who have then proceeded to proverbially s**t the bed consistently when infected by said boobery. When everything becomes about perception to the FO then everything they do looks like a PR stunt and most of the time is perceived poorly. I've finally given up...as long as DS owns this team the drama will never go away. He doesn't have it in him to be just operate normally. And I have been a long time DS apologist.

Film study, interviewso, medical background and background check are just as important.

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?

The combine is overrated and not a good indicator of how an individual will perform during an actual game. How many receivers are going to run routes unimpeded in a real game or be able to leap 42 inches to grab a ball? It is a hype job to promote the league. Even the draft has become a joke. Very few players actually drafted make a true impact. Case in point is our last draft!!! Initially we received an a- by some observers, but it was downgraded to a c after the season was complete. Nobody from the front office needs to be present at the combine. That is what scouts are for.

You do realize a lot of that happens at the combine, right?

MTK 03-02-2017 02:55 PM

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?

Yeah I'd say the combine is a big deal and you want your main decision makers there. It's more than just scouting the upcoming picks, contracts are discussed, trades, etc.

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?

It might be an overhyped shitshow for the fans, but it's actually pretty important for NFL teams. I don't think 40 times are the biggest factor there, this is your best chance to get to know players 1 on 1. And like Matty said, talking business with agents and other teams also happens a lot.

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?

I'm not trying to say that Bruce Allen is gods gift to scouting or drafting, but I don't understand to ultimate animosity towards him. Have you looked at his one and only draft class.
ROUND (PICK) PLAYER SCHOOL
2 (47) LB Trent Murphy Stanford
3 (66) — From Dallas OT Morgan Moses Virginia
3 (78) — From Dallas G Spencer Long Nebraska
4 (102) CB Bashaud Breeland Clemson
5 (142) WR Ryan Grant Tulane
6 (186) — From Tennessee RB Lache Seastrunk Baylor
7 (217) TE Ted Bolser Indiana
7 (228) — From Tennessee K Zach Hocker Arkansas

Depending on how you classify Murphy that is four starters and a utility receiver out of seven total picks, none of which is a first rounder. I'll take that every year thank you

This was the draft where Allen had contracted for McCloughan's scouting service when we was in between the Seahawks and Redskins jobs. So I wonder how much of a thumbprint he had on this thing.

Still, with each draft class I'm looking for one or more difference makers, and at least 2 starters. I classify Moses as a difference maker, and we've gotten starting production out of 3 others. Not bad for not having a 1st rounder.

hutch17 03-02-2017 03:22 PM

Re: Trouble in Redskins Park?

Agreed, I am sure the McC report was used heavily but remember we kept most of our scouts and they are still in place too.

Moses is a Difference maker, I think Long will be the long term solution at C and looks to be top 1/3 at the positon, If they would just let Trent keep his hand in the dirt I feel he could be border line pro-bowler and Bre should be the starter at Nickel and let Dunbar or Fuller be on the outside.

remembering old late round names that I got jacked up about is the best. Bacarri Rambo

PLUS! He very much cleaned up our salary cap issues. BA has done a pretty good job especially since he took over after the Vinny regime.

I am personally glad to have BA.

Also lets remember folks people are not beating the door down for a chance to work with DS either.

Enough with the Allen lovefest. Are some of you forgetting Andre Roberts? Or him pissing away draft picks on two QB's? Or what about missing on Hatcher?

His 14 draft class is average. Murphy is an ok player. Breeland basically stunk last year. He's another average player. Moses is a solid starter for us. Reed is a really good pass catching TE but can't block. Long is another average player.

Just not a fan of Allen as someone who can build a team via draft. He's like Snyder and loves free agents. That's one reason they get along.

I'm not as hardcore about it as you are, but I don't want Allen team building either. I'll give him due credit for 2014, Murphy is solid, Breeland has had an up and a down year so the jury is still out on him, Moses is a fine pick as is Jordan Reed. But other than that he's been more miss than hit as a talent evaluator.

I do not give a shit how BA snag 4 starters in his one and only draft class. He did it and that class is a big part of the turn around. He may not be a top 5 GM or Team President, but has done a nice job at Washington. For the most part he has kept Dan in check and we have had two winning seasons in a row.

Average class? 4 starters is average? That is a lot better than average. Murphy spent all summer bulking up to play D-line and then because of injuries he switched back to outside linebacker. Breeland was consider our number 1 corner prior to Josh Norman. He had a bad season, but that doesn't mean he is not a good player. Don't forget the piss poor secondary coaching helped with his regression. Finally, two starting offensive lineman, and they are considered a top 5 unit.

Are you successfully repressing the Shanahan years? Bruce has been here since Vinny got fired in 2009, everything between then and McC has been Bruce's drafts. Who was responsible for RG3? Is that all Dan or does Bruce deserve some of that blame too? We know Mike and Kyle didn't want him.

Mike had final say on all roster decisions. If he really did not want RG3 he would not have made the trade. Mike can deflect and blame Dan, but Dan was a lost puppy with with Mike and would have he followed his decision.

Biggest issue...their decision making at the qb position. Because if you believe it's just Bruce, your wrong. Bruce/Dan working together in tandem. McC takes that away...which is the main reason I'm 100% in favor in doing everything thing possible to keep McC in the gm seat.

Doug Williams...that's just another yes man for dan. Pass

So far, I view Scott as a college scout genius, although last year's draft still needs to pick up the pace. (I know ...more time is needed before passing full judgement).

But, I don't view Scott as a top GM by any means yet. He hasn't proven his skills in Free Agency, which unfortunately is still a big need for us.

For the record, I think this franchise got much more professional since Bruce Allen came on board and our Cap situation has definitely improved. For me, that is a better place than where we were a few years ago.

I'm not sitting here trying to defend Mike, he made poor picks at coaches and he bears partial blame for the poor drafting past the first round (T.Will and Ryan K. were good picks), but do you really think Mike S. would've stood his ground and told Dan/Bruce no if Dan wanted RG3 no matter the cost?

This ^^^^^^

Similar to the Jeff Fisher / Jared Goff situation, Shanahan absolutely did not want RG3, that is why he took Cousins as well to have as a backup plan. I believe Shanahan has said that several times. At the end of the day MS tried to make RG3 work because that was what he was paid to do.

Murphy wasn't a starter and hasn't been since he's been here. Solid rotational guy and all, he's certainly improved since he's been here. No one is game planning to stop Trent Murphy.

We are not a top 5 line. Sorry but when you can't run the ball on 3rd and 1 cause your back gets blown up at the line you are not a top 5 unit. Now if you're just talking about pass blocking, then we can have a conversation. They seem to really be pretty good at that, Moses has turned into a good starter.

Actually I really think the direction where we're heading is fine. I'm pro Scot and believe in the way he builds a team. The way Dan and Bruce do it is a loser way to build a team and their results speak for themselves.

So your complaining about the 2013 draft class, remember the team was in shambles after the cap penalty and had no picks.

ROUND PICK PLAYER SCHOOL
2 51 CB David Amerson North Carolina State
3 85 TE Jordan Reed Florida
4 119 S Phillip Thomas Fresno State
5 154 RB Chris Thompson Florida State
5 162 LB Brandon Jenkins Florida State
6 191 S Bacarri Rambo Georgia
7 228 RB Jawan Jamison Rutgers

Amerson, solid player unfortunately not for us (coaches fault for not pushing
him)
Reed, All pro
Thompson, solid contributor

That is a good draft class for no first rounder. 1 difference maker and two solid players.

you mention Andre Roberts, that was a big miss, but I challenge you to name a free agent that Scot has picked up that wasn't a big miss (not including Norman because that was a no brainer) I mean we are talking Kendall Reyes, david Bruton, jaron Johnson, Stephen Peae, Chris Culliver, Ricky jean is OK

that cupboard is bare my friend
