Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
Is Smith really deserving of a large contract? He's every bit as inconsistent as Breeland was. The guy plays great for a game, then disappears for the next 3.
We need to find a wrecking ball to go along with Allen to close out games. When Allen and Ionnidis were healthy it looked like we had something going there. If we could get Poe and draft someone I think we're in business. |

Yes Smith will get a big deal because of the value placed on pass rushers. He was definitely seeing the benefits early on in the season with Allen in the lineup. Would you rather have him or Murphy? |

Would you rather have him or Murphy?[/quote] I was ok with Bree leaving if Fuller were not traded. Now you've let two corners go on an already suspect defense. Not sure how that makes our d better. Would have kept Murphy becuase he's a pass rusher that can play the run. The way FA is set up, it's almost if better your guys like Murphy or Richardson. You're not good enough for your drafted team to pay you, but good enough to get paid on the open market. Richardson is guaranteed more money than Leveon Bell. |
Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
Geez Louise! We're just day one into free agency. We haven't even gotten to the draft yet.

It's interesting that, other than Morgan Moses, BA didn't keep any of last draft class before SM signed on. For all the criticism BA takes, I think it says something that his first 5 picks from that draft all have lasted in the NFL AND gotten solid 2nd contracts from teams seeing additional value in them. I think that shows positive things about both our depth, and our drafting under the FO from 2014 till now. |
Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
As the 2014 class departs it’s critical the next guys up can fill the void. Anderson, Moreau, Roullier, etc. It’s obvious that’s what the team is banking on.

Yep, and that is generally what good teams do (GB, NE , PITT) |
Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
My concern in losing Breeland and Fuller despite having Moreau, the amount of depth lost. I don’t think there’s an available FA that can replace those two. Matthiu wants to get paid and I don’t think the Redskins will. Need to draft a
CB. |

Those guys are average compared to Fuller and Breeland. I would save my money and pass on them and draft a CB. |

Breeland was trashed by everyone on here in 2015,2016. He had a solid year last yr and now he's a huge loss? I don't think he was. Fuller was a bigger loss |
Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
To be honest, other than the QB's this FA hasn't exactly had big time players... I mean look around the league and who is getting signed... Not many are "wow"

Breeland had one bad year and was our best CB before Norman showed up and actually played better than Norman last year. Trading Fuller was fucking moronic. |

But that is what it takes to have a QB, again would u rather have Fuller and AJ Mccarron or Colt? Not me bro. |

Paid way too much for a QB on the downside of his career, would have rather have built up the D and O, signed Keenum and take my chances + drafted a future QB. |
Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
scandrick is mediocre at best, and slow, no thanks. Cromartie is meh as well - i mean for the right price, for depth, sure, but otherwise? Nah. And yes. I wish they could have worked something else out than trading fuller I really do. I hope they address this need somehow, and hopefully with someone that has playmaking ability because IMHO the secondary is suspect as hell right now.

They may take a chance on a QB earlier than anyone here would want is my sneaking suspicion. Someone to learn behind Smith for a few years before he retires. But my question is, is there some late round project player at QB that we can do that with? - I would hate if they used one of the top 3 picks to draft a qb when there are so many other needs. My worst nightmare - at this point - is if Baker Mayfield is available at 13, that Dan will make that pick. I like baker, i do, but i just dont think its the right time after acquiring smoith and having so many other holes. --- hell i wanted to draft the kid if cousins left, so i may eat my words, BUT - - I really have hopes that this f/o is getting better. |

Fuller was the cost of doing business. Both KC (the Chiefs) and KC(the qb) were moving on, KC from their CB they traded, and KC from us. I wish KC we could have tag and traded Breeland (for all the fans of tag and trade talk), but Fuller is who we had to offer. That's just the way it goes. I do agree that I would rather look to the 4th and 5th round for a CB, (and it may be to our advantage that the CB market took off and so many teams filled a need there thus reducing the pressure for CB's to rise in the draft) Hard to call getting a proven winning QB with a terrific cap number moronic. Even if he does need things around him, the 10 million cap difference will help us do that. |
Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
We’re not using a top pick on a QB

Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
There’s no huge rush to draft someone to develop, Smith is probably here at least 3 years, maybe 4. A top pick on a QB would be a total waste.

How is AS on the downside? Most QB's with good protection (even terrible protection in Eli's case) are playing till 38-40 (Brees just signed a 2 year extension at 39) AND AS has definitely improved the last few years including his deep ball. Even if he only has 4 years left, 2 -3 of those years will be better than anything Case would do with our team, and at 3-5M less per year |

I don't like the trade but Smith is coming off his best season. He's hardly on the downside of his career. |

If anything, Alex Smith is liken to Rich Gannon. Gannon played his best football in his twilight years of his career. Smith has steadily gotten better and has seen no decline in his play. Instead, his career has trended upward. I think people will always second guess the moves this franchise makes until they win a Super Bowl. We have to question every little thing. Keenum could very well be a one-hit wonder. Alex Smith has proven that he can take a team to multiple playoff appearances. He's more athletic than Keenum and fits this offense better. It was an outstanding move by our FO to make the play for Alex Smith. Had we not gotten him and wound up with Teddy Bridgewater, can you just imagine the bitching we would've heard from fans? |

Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
The draft and free agency have symbiotic relationship with each other and you really can't judge the whole off season till after the draft.
We still have cap space left and 6 picks to make everyone happy. And I think we'll trade down so we'll have even more picks. Just gonna take the worst thing to excercise, patience. |
Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
I'd like us to sign Aaron Colvin and a starting LG or MLB or DT. Then use 2 of our first 3 picks on the other positions. And a RB somewhere in 1st 3.

Re: Redskins free agent signings 2018
Hello All,
I've been reading the forums for a while, and decided to join today, so I could chat/share with the other members. I'm sure it's not lost on anyone that the Redskins stand to lose in a single offseason: Cousins, Grant, Murphy, Galette, Breeland, Fuller, Hall, and Brown. We will also finally feel the total affect of Scott M being gone as well. Didn't we learn a lesson last season letting half the offense walk? I thought the method of building a winner was continuity and drafting, cultivating, and KEEPING your own talent? Instead, we let Murphy, Breeland, and Fuller (young talent we drafted) go to perform in their prime for some other team. It's beyond me why we haven't made more of an effort to nail down Brown and/or Galette. We're also hearing that Cravens is being shopped. I know we cannot see what's happening behind the scenes, but from where I'm standing other teams are aggressively working to get better this offseason while the Redskins sit on the sidelines watching talent walk away. You'd figure a team that had a 7-9 season last year, and their division rivals winning a SUPERBOWL would be moving a little harder. Instead of getting younger, we're getting older. Smith is 5 years older than Cousins, and (if we sign DRC) he's pushing 32 years old....no thanks. This is NOT the definition of STABILITY or CONTINUITY. |
