Re: 2019 mlb
Tbh I don't watch a lot of baseball.
But I'd watch a ton of it right now. I miss sports :( |
Re: 2019 mlb
Baseball seems to be stalled out at the negotiating table. The higher paid players taking bigger pay cuts percentage wise is not flying. Not a good look considering the shape the country is in right now, especially high paid pitchers. Max Sherzer of the Nationals rejects making as "little" as $5.5 mil working one day a week of a shortened season. I guess he doesn't understand while baseball has great TV deals those fans in the seats pay some bills. I suppose he thinks owners should lose a lot of money.
|
Re: 2019 mlb
I miss baseball. I cannot believe how shitty negotiations are going. Players have to realize that even if they are right compared to owners they are the ones that will lose in the public eye.
|
Re: 2019 mlb
All the owners are filthy rich. Not all the players are. Owners definitely have the upper hand right now.
|
Re: MLB thread
My magic 8 ball says this is not looking good. I understand the players side saying the agreement reached in March for the season should be followed but the reality is the players are going to be hurt by this more than the owners. I am not aware of a single owner whose income is from their sports team ownership. I could also see this having impacts on fan viewership for the future.

Re: MLB thread
When the NBA and NHL are back and MLB is sitting on the sidelines it's going to be a very bad look for them

Re: MLB thread
The latter is true. In March they agreed to a prorated salary but MLB is saying that the terms of proration are negotiable

The whole thing is a mess right now, and at the moment it looks like there won't be a 2020 MLB season. Sent from my SM-G975U1 using Tapatalk |

Yup...the owners are gonna have to take a one year hit in order to not carry heavier losses in the future. I dunno, to be honest...I’m not missing sports that much. Def not the boring NBA...baseball is gone, but it’s not as bad as I thought. The quarantine has def woke me to other shit in life. |
Re: MLB thread
Here is a good article on the numbers that MLB proposed to the players yesterday. There are some positives in here several negatives that do not favor players, but I think a counter from the players might yield a season. One of the things that is missing in the article is MLB wanting a change to the operation manual and have players sign an "acknowledgement of risk" to play this season. Thus removing liability of covid 19 illness or death from MLB. There is no way I would accept that as an employee.

The players will never win in a work stoppage.

Re: MLB thread
Draft starts tonight. Personally I am excited for it. I think the Orioles will draft Martin like the mocks say. Hard to pass up on him. I hope the Yankees draft the next Brien Taylor and Cashman gets gonorrhea spooning Hal Steinbrenner in celebration. I hope you're reading this Punch. F the Yankees!

Re: MLB thread
Damn I feel for Orioles fans...keep the faith. And f the Yankees

Hearing rumbles that they make take high schooler (of) Zac Veen as an underslot at no. 2. Would be the traditional Orioles way of doing business. Being cheap on the no. 2 pick because they worry about making that no 30 pick sligthty better. Elias - i like what ive heard from him and what he brings, so he has my faith no matter what for the next few years. i just hate going cheap with first round picks and trading away intl money. Give me the A student vs 2 C students. ------------------------------- edit -- apparently Martin has Boras as his agent and wants 1.1 (1st overall pick) money and not 1.2 (2nd overall) money. Fuck me ... Os could go 4 different ways here. |
Re: MLB thread
Normally I’d agree the boras I’d relationship is contentious. I am hoping with only 5 rounds they will be able to make a bigger offer
|
Re: MLB thread
F the yankees
|
Re: MLB thread
So Heston Kjerstad. Strong lefty power hitter with short porch in right at Camden Yards. I can get behind it but he is definitely not the second best player out there.
|
Re: MLB thread
Orioles and Miami .... 2 of the very worst run organizations in all of sports.
Not getting Nick Bitsko at 30 I think really blew up in their face. Good chance the Os wont even spend all of their draft allotment money now. How do you take the 10th best player at no. 2, when a much more highly touted player is there in Austin Martin? or the consensus best pitcher in Lacy. On top of it all ... Kjerstad is not even a decent outfielder so it seems like we spent the no. 2 overall pick on a high strike out, non position player who has a gimmicky swing that may need to be changed. Who the fuck drafts a DH who needs a swing correction at no. 2 overall? At least take Lacy if you were scared off by Martin/Boras connection. ------------------- Elias gets 2 years of non-judgment free reign and who knows about drafts ... so ill judge in 2022. I guess. |

Letter regarding Yankees' sign-stealing investigation from Rob Manfred to be unsealed, per report
https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/letter-regarding-yankees-sign-stealing-investigation-from-rob-manfred-to-be-unsealed-per-report/ I don’t get it, why was the letter sealed in the first place? Shouldn’t the commish and the mlb want transparency on yet another baseball scandal? Eff the Yankees |
Re: MLB thread
I guess the Os draft wasnt that bad. read a goods review on orioles hangout. That assumes we sign the HS players taken in R4 and 5 plus Kjerstad signs for less money to make signing the HS kids possible.
Give me Austin Martin though. 4th or 5th rounders out of HS is rolling the dice even more. I guess we will wait 5 years to see. |
Re: MLB thread
Watching the "Junior" special on MLB Network. Favorite athlete of all times. The 95 playoff winner against the Yankees still gives me a chub.
Note - I miss baseball. Those assholes (both sides) need to get it together! |
Re: MLB thread
According to multiple reports, Major League Baseball will set a schedule for the 2020 season that will be 60 games long. The season will start the weekend of July 24 with a "spring" training opening on July 1.
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/does-mlbs-60-game-season-014646305.html Sports radio is telling me I should be mad at the owners 60% and the players 40% ... idk. Im not mad at either side. Will be happy to see some baseball though. Os gonna suck! and im fine with that. |
Re: MLB thread
The O's will have the toughest 60 game schedule ever but I am looking forward to it. As for the draft I am cool with Kjerstad. He has a bunch of short right porches in the AL east and Boston with the Pesky pole. Regardless he will constantly be compared with Martin, who the scouting seems to suggest being limited in the field.

This schedule shit is a joke, are we really supposed to believe everything is set in stone when the 'rona is at its' worst right now? |
Re: MLB thread
Roch is the guy I follow for Os news. Looks like the players are practicing at Camden. I havent heard of any Os players testing positive.
Sucks for some teams who had to shut down facilities and cant practice while teams like the Os can .. for now. https://twitter.com/masnRoch?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor |

This schedule shit is a joke, are we really supposed to believe everything is set in stone when the 'rona is at its' worst right now?
In reality, it's really not. Death rate is way down. Media's reporting cases are up to scare people. Cases are up because testing is up. Don't take my word for it...the CDC says so. It's on the edge of being downgraded from a pandemic to an epidemic. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/covidview/index.html
Mortality attributed to COVID-19 decreased compared to last week and is currently at the epidemic threshold but will likely increase as additional death certificates are processed.
|

Posey is out. Says not a difficult decision

Re: MLB thread
It’s gonna be something else to see baseball have a 60 game sprint. To take such a long season traditionally and knock it down this short, should be a lot of fun. Looking forward to see how the Braves play.

Fuck yes! |
Re: MLB thread
Good for the Braves. Isnt Markakis waiving out of this season? Seems like an obvious replacement.
I know the Os offered him but we never knew the $ or length. Much like the Skins, we need to play the young guys and tank for another year. |

July 25th...i need baseball back in my life
|
Re: MLB thread
Honestly I cannot even take any sport seriously until this shit is over. Everything is skewed. Guys not playing for safety. Guys who get the virus. No preseason in football. That is obviously going to hurt teams without veteran quarterbacks and new coaches (us). NBA - too many guys opting out. All four of my teams could win ..,well three of them ..Yankees, Flyers, Sixers all very much in contention for a championship- and I will not even care. It is total bologna.
