If Alex Smith starts over Haskins next year after that broken leg, it will be tantamount to admitting Haskins is a failed draft pick. |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Eye test. We can tell he has no idea what he's doing. Like no idea, none, at all. It's not the size of the sample, it's how he's been not just late to deliver the ball, but like he doesn't even know the receiver is supposed to break off his route, and he's waiting for guys to show as open before he throws it. It's how he locks onto receiving targets with his eyes, and it's how he holds the ball way too long. It's an indicator of exactly how slowly he's picking up the playbook. All QBs come in green with it and have to learn. Some learn faster than others. But you have to be alarmed at how slowly he's learning it. Four INTs in 22 passes is alarmingly bad. If he keeps learning at this rate he won't be ready to start until his rookie contract is up. |

Exactly...that leg injury was terrible. I’d really have concerns putting him on the field...mentor Haskins? That would be a perfect role...I think his contract basically ties us to him again for next year |

As of now, Tom Brady, Phillip Rivers, Dak Prescott, Jameis Winston, and Marcus Mariota are all set to be free agents next year. We will have a new head coach next year. If he has close ties to one of them, we cant rule out the skins signing them.
I mean, would anyone truly be surprised if Wisenhunt were our coach and Rivers our QB next year? I'm not saying its likely to happen. But given the history of the way this organization operates, we cant limit our thinking to assuming the 2020 QB will be Haskins or Smith. |

These also seem to be timing, quick hit west coast type traits. He seems to be a better version of Jason Campbell. Big arm, hangs in the pocket. How is he supposed to get chemistry and timing down with the receivers if he is not in game? He needs to be in there so he can have 3rd and 7s and find out just how far a certain WR will push an out route before breaking it off. he needs to play with the guys to build up the trust that if he puts the ball in the right place, the receiver is on the same page and he can trust the receiver will get to that space. My eyes tell me he just doesnt have the "it" but I have to remind myself that we have only seen what this kid can do under bad circumstances. I want to see what he can do after like 6 starts where he practiced w the 1s. Where we know what works for him and what doesnt. He has a live NFL arm. |
Re: The Haskins Threat
In RG3's rookie year does anyone think he would have had any success at all if he was dropped into a traditional offense and took a small share of the snaps in camp? He would have been a fucking disaster.
RG3 is proof that if you go all in on developing a rookie QB he can have success. What the Skins have done with Haskins so far is what you do with a guy you have no interest in playing at all as a rookie, and who even knows in year 2 how serious they'll be in getting him ready. Keeping in line with Bruce's "we're close" way of thinking, and Callahan's comments about developing Haskins like Steve Young or Aaron Rodgers (meaning they're ok with him sitting a while), I can totally see a scenario where it's Smith or Keenum starting in 2020. |

Rodgers and Young both sat. But they didn't sit behind Keenum. They sat behind two of the greatest of all time. If Haskins can't beat out Keenum next year we got problems. |
Re: The Haskins Threat
I mean there's no point in labeling the dude a bust now. He's under contract with us for at least three more years at a rookie dollar figure. So you give him time and see how he does. But next year will tell us a lot, and I'd be lying if I didn't say I was pretty discouraged so far.

impatient bs from Dan as usual. We could have rode it out with keenum, as we pretty much are anyway - and drafted a day one contributor at 15 and waited on qb for next year. fuckin annoying.
wont give up on haskins yet but obviously no one has a strong impression. And i agree, if you havent been coaching him up all year cuz you were trying to focus on saving your job this year, which you failed at, is not fair to the player mentally or physically when it comes to development |

I'm just listing whos available. Would Tom Brady and Phillip Rivers want to end their careers here? Probably not. But if the Skins traded 10 1st round picks to the Patriots and Belichek was the coach or the skins hired Wisenhut, perhaps theyd be interested. Garret could be fired and that could entice Dak to sign here. The point of my comment was that we shouldn't be ruling anything out. Snyder's history shows he likes to make a major splash after completely disastrous seasons. And this one is going to end in a disaster. I don't see us finishing better than 2-14. I'm expecting a major shakeup in the offseason with Snyder firing bruce or moving him to only work on the stadium deal, bringing in some sort of big name coach/GM and giving them total control. It is not very likely that theyre going to want to be handcuffed to Haskins or Smith to start their tenure. That's only going to happen if Snyder can't get the big name and is stuck promoting Oconnell or getting a Jim Zorn type with no cred. |

But his Uber finger-blasting-the-driver metric is high and successful crab leg thefts are 80%. I like the non measurables-analytics with Winston...could add some roster drama in the QB room with Alex “pegleg” Smith...and a first round pick who can’t comprehend a playbook. |

Re: The Haskins Thread
Case could be in concussion protocol for awhile. Look at what happened to Reed.
Haskins will get to practice with the 1st team and start. Then we’ll see how he does. The key aspect of this season is what happens after the last game of a disastrous season. I also think the Trent Williams fiasco has hurt the Redskins. The media has not been shy about targeting BA and the Redskins medical staff for the TW buffoonery. The Redskin organization looks real BAD with the possible medical misdiagnosis of cancer AND then PUNISHING the Redskins team captain and best player in the last decade by holding him on the team, when he wants to leave. Snyder might just have to sacrifice Bruce Allen for the season’s results and also for the TW disaster. Can Snyder bring in a real GM with certified NFL talent and also give up some control of the team? Unfortunately, I’m just not sure if Snyder has the smarts or courage to make such a move. His tendency I to hire a superstar OC to try to make Haskins work. As for the #3 draft pick - that is what I going to help convince a HC to come here, and $5-6 mill / yr - five year contract. Dan will want to make a big splash with his HC and/or a new GM, after all the disasters this season. I hope the team draft the BPA for the draft - who undoubtedly is the Edge Rusher, Chase Young. He’s the kind of splash superstar that Snyder wants. He might even get some fans to come to some games to see this amazing talent join a damn good DL. With a new DC, the defense has the talent (with good draft picks and FA) to be in the top ten. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
