There's definitely an argument for trading down. If you can turn that one "generational" player into three really good players (starters), the team is better off. IMHO... |
Re: NFL Free Agent Signings 2020
Some drafts just don't have the talent, it varies greatly from year to year.
Having a high pick is a matter of good timing quite often, this year is a great year to have one, but also as a result a great year to parlay that into a multi-pick trade. Five years ago the league was desperate for good QBs. It just wasn't a good draft so no one wanted to trade up to the top 10, the Redskins were trying to trade down like many of the top 10 teams because there was little value there. |

The argument is legit... but on the long term if Chase Young really is what he is said to be, I think the team is better off having that 1 true difference maker in the trenches. While not in favor of it, I wouldn't hate trading down but it'd have to be for a massive haul of picks. |

Either/or I'm fine with, but if I'm Miami I'm using those first 3 rounders to trade up for Joe Burrow. 3 first rounders in the same year ought to buy you the leverage needed to draft anywhere in the first round. |

Nope. I know Burrow is good but there are alot of other QB's in this draft and I don't think he is worth 3 #1's. |

Re: NFL Free Agent Signings 2020
I’ m surprised. I thought that the Redskins would spread out FA among several personnel instead of trying to get one big splash, like Snyder and Bruce Allen did in years past.
Possible FA moves: 1. Hooper 3-4 yr contract - NO 2. Boston 3-4 yr contrac - NO 2a. Sign FS SEAN Davis - one yr contract, Red Flag, missed almost all last year with injury 3. Kendall Fuller 3-4 yr r contract- CHECK 4. Resign Scherff but I agree with the franchise tag to see if he has it long-term CHECK 5. Resign Flowers -outbid by Miami by $2 mi. NO 5a. Bring in MARTIN at OG 6. Trent wants a trade. LOSING BEST OL PLAYER - NO real replacement, best offer two x third rounder 7. Dunbar want a trade - LOSING BEST CB PLAYER - what do we get in return - a third? So far this REDSKIN’s FA has been lame. Went for the home run with Cooper and he took less money and went with JerryJones. We have Nothing really at TE. Possibly losing starters LT and CB. Nothing at WR. Maybe hire Breeland to fix CB. There is just too many open positions to fix it all in the draft. Every team changes from year-to-year. Those new positions must be filled with the draft and UDFA and FA. “ 3. Right, I know this is your personal opinion but Miami's personal opinion of Burrow is more relevant to where they want to trade to. |

Re: NFL Free Agent Signings 2020
The one thought that gnaws at me when I consider the idea of trading down is "What if we draft Chase Young and he is seriously injured"? The idea that we could have three or more good players instead of one great player is a bit comforting to me but solely because it seems to me to be much less likely that all of those players would be seriously injured at the same time. But that's the conservative part of me.
The football fan part of me wants to go for it and take Chase because great edge rushers create havoc for opposing offenses. They make their entire team better. The Redskins fan part of just loves to watch Chase play football! I challenge you put on some Redskins gear, get your mind in a game day mood, and then honestly tell me you don't want to see this young man in B&G. It can't be done. |

Re: NFL Free Agent Signings 2020
Looking at the QB field in this draft, the top 4 or 5 guys could be legit franchise QBs, or they could be busts. Unlikely Burrow is a bust, but i remember Ryan Leaf, so... Tua could be another Luck with injuries destroying his career. There's a little drop off to the next 2 or 3, but nothing major at this stage.
So, would you really give up 3 #1 picks for Burrow or Tua, or even Young? I can't see it myself given that you are likely able to draft at least one of the 5 with one of those picks. I can maybe see Miami trading 2 to the Lions to take their spot if with either of the top 2 guys are still there at #3, which I'd say is likely, but giving up all 3 to move up to 1st just seems overkill under the circumstances. But stranger things have happened... |
Re: NFL Free Agent Signings 2020
If I was Miami I'd trade those picks for Burrow or Tua, again if you don't have a QB you won't win consistently , yeah you may have a good year or 2 but it won't last

NFL Free Agent Signings 2020
The only team that trades draft picks away is: Washington. See RG3 deal. We just traded away a fifth for an XFL player. We can’t get serious offers for really good players like Dunbar and Williams. Teams hold onto their picks.
I still think the best course of action is for the Redskins to resign Williams and Dunbar. We have PLENTY of cap space. I know Rivera wants change the culture to the “right attitude”. But even the Patriots signed guys in FA who basically were there to get a ring and some FA money. The Redskins do not have enough draft picks to change the team overnight. They can bend a little here and get us a “win, win”. Let’s face it, both Williams and Dunbar just want to play with some guaranteed money in their contract. Neither had ANY guaranteed money in their last year of their contract, so if they got injured - they didn’t get paid. In the last two years the Redskins have been one of the NFL’s MOST HIGHLY INJURED TEAM, so who could blame them for wanting some guaranteed money?. Now I know there’s some posters who say, “he signed the contract, now play for it”. That’s the sort of attitude that Bruce Allen had and lead for both the players & agents HATING BRUCE and lead to Williams, one of the best Redskin’s player, sitting out a season. Building a culture works both ways. Give Williams and Dunbar some guaranteed money and they’ll be loyal players to Rivera’s vision. WE HAVE THE MONEY. It’s two less positions that have to be filled by Kyle Smith in this draft. Or at least Kyle can draft an EVENTUAL replacement for Williams and Dunbar, instead of having to find a starter at their level right from the get go , which is pretty rare in the lower strata of the Redskin’s picks. Not a surprise, Haskins though promising is an unknown quantity

Re: NFL Free Agent Signings 2020
Haskins will be better than Baker this season and the whole organization will function normally this year. Next year (2021) is where we start competing for 10+ wins.

I believe so too, but if you were a free agent betting his biggest career move on one choice, right now you would choose Baker and all his weapons over Haskins and Terry M. Hooper will always be in single coverage playing for Cleveland, should put up big numbers, |

Re: NFL Free Agent Signings 2020
One thing about this organizational failure is simply we are at the bottom in the league in terms of “respected franchise” and even with the hiring of someone’s stature like Rivera, it can’t wash away the years of distrust, irresponsible and negligent management.

Yep, need at least one year with some decent production on the field and at least one year of running a legit organization off of the field. |

Jordan Reed needs to think about life after football and retire. Concussions are cumulative, you could probably bounce a tennis ball off his head and give him one. There is plenty of evidence that continuing to play football is an extreme risk to his long term health. |

If there's one man whose phone I wish didn't ring anymore, it's his. Hope he doesn't get any offers for his own sake. Legit think he will be dead within 5 years of his retirement. |

Re: NFL Free Agent Signings 2020
If you want to be successful as an organization, you must identify your guys and extend them during the season or in camp before their contract year.
Players who qualify coming up: Chase Roullier Dustin Hopkins Fabian Moreau Ryan Anderson Jonathan Allen and Rueben Foster still has the 5th year options which should be picked up, but extension possibility there. |
Re: NFL Free Agent Signings 2020
Isn't MI coming close to the end of that 3 yr extension he got aswell.

I'm still on fence with Moreau and Anderson - I think they haven't shown much to warrant contract extension unless it's just for depth purpose. This year is their chance to prove their worth. |
