Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Brandin Cooks is available via trade
The Rams are looking to shed Cooks’ salary while recouping some draft capital. Despite his past accomplishments, it could be tough for them to find the right deal. Last year, Cooks had just 42 grabs for 583 yards and two touchdowns. Contrasted with his four straight seasons of 65/1,082/5, his trade value ain’t what it used to be. If a deal comes together, it’ll likely happen in the next 24 hours. On Friday, Cooks is slated to lock in a guaranteed $5MM roster bonus. All in all, his contract takes him through 2023 with an upcoming cap hit of $16.8MM. A trade would lessen the blow, but still leave the Rams with a dead money charge. Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
no way to Cooks

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Again, we are a rebuilding team. Teams that are rebuilding do not trade away picks for established players. Right now the only trade that is going to happen is (hopefully) us trading Trent for a 2nd rounder.

Rivera and Smith are doing work. Now we're getting places!!

I think they will play half your snaps by seasons end just because of some many injuries to O line guys. I think you need 3 competent Ts and 4 competent G/Cs. I know that is a lot and a luxury many teams cant afford. TW, Moses, Lucas = 3 Roullier, Scherff, Martin, Schweitzer = 4 of course, I dont see TW coming back and martin is still an unknown. Geron Christian and bergstrom/someday gets us to 9. We would need to replace TW ... |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Best signing of the year for us so far
|
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
I'm perfectly fine with the big swing and miss on Cooper.
Wish we would have went hard after Hooper but I have to believe there's a plan for TE in the draft. Liked the Fuller signing, good player, not a crazy contract. Everything else so far feels like a Bruce Allen free agency. Good deals on no name players. Hopefully these guys can at the very least be quality depth. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
I like the focus on vet depth on the Oline who are in their prime, could contribute and even play at a high level.
And remember, we are at the start of free agency...these were targets coming into the league new year. These were not fill-in contracts after the draft, middle of summer...its important to make that distinction. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
We need more TE help here big time and some fairly good receivers out there we need to get one.

I would have moved Trent for him and signed him to an Amari per year extension. Hopkins > Coop all day |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
You are assuming Hooper wanted to come here, the skins aren't going to be competitive this year in most peoples minds
|
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Hooper --- we must be missing something. At first I thought maybe 2019 was a fluke break out year and teams that studied his advanced analytics can see it was a one time thing where Atlanta was feeding him the ball and D were giving him room = perfect combo for fluke statistical breakout year .... but he had over 70 catches in 2018.
and hes touted as a premier blocker, hes 6'4" ... 11M per is not that bad at all. only thing I can think of is that I do think you can find your own Hooper or Henry or Kittles in rounds 2-5 .. not a guarantee and you have pick the right guy but top end TEs dont take 1st round resources like a LT |

Do you think Mayfield tampered and bro-manced him? Baker networks. I get that the browns are a more desirable spot than here currently ...but seems we/everyone else didnt even get a meeting. Like he was locked to the Browns even before the legal tampering period began. Njoku - dont know if he can block or healthy but he could probably be gotten for a day 3 pick. But this is his 4th year and as a 1st round pick, browns have to decide what to do with that 5th year option .. if they have or havent already i dont know. I imagine Njoku would want a new contract with a new team, maybe. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Problem is with these Wrs/TEs , who is our QB? We don't even know so why would anyone want to sign with a team that has ?s at QB?

BREAKING : The #Redskins are signing OT Cornelius Lucas on a 2-years, $5.3M deal, per @RapSheet.

Your questioning the qb is really out of whack. We didn't go hard after any qb on the market, the worst case would be we draft a top ranked rookie, which a WR or TE could grow with, or with a qb that took off at the end of the year when coaching let him. I think it's obvious the Skins didn't focus on TE like we all thought they would, instead bringing in 2 journeymen. And Cooper was a dallas guy. I would seriously doubt qb had anything to do with that (Dak isn't head and shoulders over Haskins by any means). It seems like you have a personal bias about Haskins, and it's a bit obnoxious, because your other posts, and in season posts, are really insightful, useful, and appreciated. |

Look back at the post during the season when many on here called him a bust after 3-4 games in. My point was is he the QB or not? There have been many DC media guys also Question it, on top of that Ron Rivera said himself that there will be a competition, no true QB1 has a coach come out and say that. I've said plenty of times that we should draft Chase But if we did take Tua I'd be fine with that too. In the NFL you Have to have a QB period, Chase Young won't win games for us if Haskins isn't any good and we don't know if he's good or bad yet, neither do FA WRs. That's my point Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
JMO and some facts Trent Dilfer won a SB and he sucks Baltimore had a GREAT defense. DH is better than Trent. We just need to behind our QB ain't nothing wrong with some competition. Management never supported RG3 when he was here we better not repeat the same mistake. I know RG3 couldn't stay healthy but we never had his back JMO.

No doubt, like I said I'm a fan of DH and yes he needs some legit competition, speaking of QBs Colt just signed with the GMEN |

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
I’m still butt hurt that we didn’t get Hooper. I think Rivera was really focused on Cooper and thought if they just out-bid Dallas that we could get him. But there are no taxes in Texas and it’s not like Washington or Snyder has a good reputation in the NFL. The Redskins could not get both Cooper and Hooper so their money was there for Amari and Cleveland wanted Hooper badly and Hooper wanted to go there .
The rest of FA has been pretty much a non-event for the Redskins. It’m glad to see Fuller come back and I think he will shine here. I was pretty sure that Trent was gone, but an unintentional benefit of the Cooper non-signing was that he could stay here if Trent would drop his price. A possibility, although if it happens it will be much closer to the draft. If we get the second round pick, it will go toward a TE. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
DH was literally set up for failure. He got drafted to a bad team, by a lame duck HC that didn't want him, that did zero to set him up for success.
And by the end of the season he was still balling. Coming out of the draft he was a smart football guy and he clearly has all the physical talent needed for the position. Him not starting next year is another huge black eye on this franchise. Give the man some protection and some weapons. Still giving RR the benefit of the doubt. He's pushing the right buttons on Haskins. |

What's the latest on Smith? Cause we've been really quiet on the QB front. Maybe he's ready to come in and compete w/ Haskins.

He’s just sitting out there eating away at our salary cap. The way I see it, his salary cap usage is escrow for Roullier and Allen extension money |

Is best case scenario is post June 1st, Alex announces retirement due to injury and then we can apply the injury insurance Bruce and Eric placed on the contract? Isn’t that 12 million we can apply to reduce the cap impact?

I'm pretty sure he'd get paid if he retired. And after what he went through, I'm fine with him getting paid. Also, I think having Alex around is going to be important for Haskins' development. |

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
It’s unclear whether or not Davis will factor into the starting equation with the Redskins, but he has the athletic upside to do so. At 6-foot-1, 203, Davis has 4.46 speed and a 37.5-inch vertical, encapsulating very good athletic range and explosiveness. Julie Donaldson of NBC Sports, who has good tie-ins with the Redskins, stated on Twitter that the team “wanted someone to play opposite Landon Collins”. It appears as though Davis could be that player. He’ll likely compete with Montae Nicholson, a player in a relatively similar situation.
Davis will have to be more consistent in D.C., as well as stay healthy, but he has a very exciting athletic profile, as well as an intriguing mix of experience and youth; he’s only 26 years old, but he’s already started 41 career games. It’ll be up to the Redskins coaching staff to glean production from his potential, and if they can, Davis could outplay his contract value. https://riggosrag.com/2020/03/18/redskins-sign-former-steelers-maryland-standout-fs-sean-davis/ I havent seen a lot of Sean Davis in the NFL (watched him alot w the terps) but it appears he is a more center field deep-ball safety and should match up nicely with Collins .. at least on paper. 5 M, 1 year ... I like the addition. Hopefully he can be an above average starter for us. |
