If there is EVER a need for the NFL to start the season, it is THIS YEAR. I thought I might miss the preseason, but it really is a largely a waste of time, except for players on the bubble or in position battles. I mean, except for ppl on this fan site, how many really care who is the #5 WR?? Lol. I’ll be glad when they go to a 3 or even a 2 game pre-season. Certainly, the fourth PS game, from years past, meant little. How many good or key players were hurt in the PS? TE, Jason Reed, was hurt last year in the PS, ending his playing career with our franchise.

I can’t wait until the NFL season starts. I’m really curious how the lack of fans in the stadium will effect the games. But for the WFT teams of the last decade, our “home town advantage” had increasingly disappeared. The amount of opposing fans versus Redskins fans was just embarrassing. I was at the game at FedEx last year between the Eagles and Redskins and the amount of Philly fans was shocking. But that rock-bottom moment needed to happen for Snyder to make the huge changes that we’ve seen this year.

This will not be a winning or great season for the WFT. However, it will be the first HOPEFUL season in decades. The team is on the “up escalator” and this will be the beginning of the new culture, new HC and perhaps a new franchise QB. Exciting!!

It's because of the uncertainty of this season, I'll get excited if we start 1-0

I never feel ready for the start of football mainly because it means the end of summer is here.

Feels like we've skipped from March right to September this year. Nothing really feels normal anymore.

Logan Thomas is getting hyped up all over the media.

Let's call and end-around pass from him against the Eagles...give them a taste of their own wacky playcall medicine. :D

Saw we cut Thaddeus Moss too. Shame he never got a real chance without preseason, but we can't keep that many TEs.

Summer died in June. No breweries, no outdoor concerts, no pool time, limited beach/river time, limited time with friends, no passing of joints, etc. fuck this summer.

I’m ready for Fall. I’m getting the fire pit and smoker out this weekend to clean. I’m wearing flannel and getting out my boots..

I actually like pre-season. Once I started accepting it meant absolutely nothing about what the team gonna look like, but could be used as individual player evaluation, especially for depth guys, I enjoyed the nerdy aspect of trying to evaluate players (while being aware of most often not having the knowledge needed to accurately do so).

^ TE is such a shallow position, just getting ANY production from the position if you miss one of the 3 good, and 10 playable TEs is a big plus. TE is garbage in fantasy.

Terry is fired up. Love to see that innate love for the game. I do think intangibles like "love" are almost as big, if not bigger, than physical traits like arm length and 40 times.

So trying to piece together who is making noise in camp and battles

Apke is Free Safety

Geron Christian is Left Tackle

Gotten zilch on left guard

SDH is hitting the hell out of people at linebacker

Moreland, Darby have been good at CB - this seems to be a battle at starting CB

Sims and Terry have been good at WR...but the guy we just picked up at WR appears to be starting at the other side meaning nobody has stepped up.

Overall the Oline has been very iffy...Dline has been ballin. Not really a surprise. There is no way Alex Smith could ever play behind our Oline, he would get killed.

AP, Gibson, and JD McK are the RBs with starters. barber and love are practicing with depth.

I doubt that he is strong enough to start in the NFL. From what I saw of his college film, he didn't hold up well vs. bigger DL. He needs a year to build up his body, IMO.

RR said that they want to try Charles at LT and LG. Charles is an aggressive run blocker who might do well as an interior lineman but I like him at OT. I think he has what it takes to play OT in the NFL.

I am not a believer in Christian at either position.

I'm really surprised how easily everybody is counting Richard Rodgers out though... TE is massive question mark and having some sort of proven veteran in there could help IMO.

It’s sucks about Ruben Foster, but heard he looks affected bad by injury.

We are extremely thin at Tight end and WR. Oline is a question mark.

I think Terry and Steven Sims can be stars, but we need to run the damn ball.

If I understand the news from the training camps, Charles hasn’t even practiced yet. Just because Christian has sucked in the last two years doesn’t mean he can’t improve THIS SEASON. He’s done well in camp so far, so let’s see if he can translate it to the games. A recent article interviewing Christian said he admits he didn’t “get it before” but decided to change everything to become competitive this season. Maybe he’s done it!

Not sure I agree with WR. I'm excited with what we have.

TE is a huge worry though.

And O-line is uncertain fore sure. But coached well I think it could work out: the best version of Scherff is a top 10 G, the best version of Moses is a serviceable RT, Roullier gets the job done, Wes Martin is apparently having a solid camp... and then you have a huge ? at LT, but some here were high on Charles, let's hope either they're right or Christian steps up his game...

Now I also can see how it could NOT work out at all...

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp

There are a lot of surprises at TC. On the upswing is

Aptke - S

Thomas and to a lesser extent - Baugh - TE
We need that!

Cam Sims may cure his drops and finally win a chance to start at WR

McLaurin is a superstar but will be double-teamed to Force others to get open. Steve Sims JR is also kicking butt.

AP playing well. Haskins has had a couple good days in a row, after a shaky start.

Many of the biggest holes are being filled by new players or players who are rising to the competition (like Christian). HOWEVER, the team is thin in depth and when players get hurt, the drop off will be severe. We are one more draft from getting the best players with backup.

Although this is a 6-7 win team in 2020 it will be exciting to see a competitive franchise after being pretty bad for two decades!!

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp

I don't see 5 RBs being kept...just 4.

Drop Barber and add Reuben Foster back to the 53, unless the plan is an 8-game IR spot.

Tough choice between Love and Barber, but Love's potential outweighs Barber's track record in my opinion.

Other than that, the projection looks fine. Trey Quinn is a leftover from the previous regime. He was a great story being a Mr. Irrelevant pick that actually contributed in the regular season, but he didn't turn into our own Edelman, so experiment over. Cam Sims and Isaiah Wright have some real potential. We'll really be missing Kelvin Harmon this year. He was due for a breakout.

I hope we will keep Love instead of Barber if it gets to that point. There's no point of keeping Barber as we all know what Barber will bring to the table, nothing special. Meanwhile, Love has the talents to be a good back.

Gibson as well. Ron called Gibson “confused” a lot. While all rookies have a learning curve, for these smaller school guys it’s steeper.

I think Love could really impress us and make us totally forget about Guice. I’m also really excited to see Gibson in action - he was a real pass threat out of the backfield in college. He’s someone that really could have benefited from the preseason. With Rivera’s comments about him, perhaps we’ll see him in the game for third down situations (like Chris Thompson last year) later in the season. AP appears ageless, although if he had Love and Gibson pulling some of the snaps, he will do better.

I thought Trey Quinn was going to do well last season, with pretty much an “open field” of rookie and second year WR to compete against. But he was a big bust. Never was open. Unless he lights a big fire [emoji91] under his own ass this season I’m afraid Rivera and the team will leave him in the dust. As you say, Harmon was looking to be the WR # 2, with Steve Sims JR in the slot. With Harmon injured there is a real competition to be the third WR. I understand that Steve Sims is excelling at TC and may even move up to play at WR#2 alongside McLaurin. This is probably Cam Sims last season to do something, as well as Trey Quinn.

I see McLaurin being double teamed by every defense, which will force Haskins to hit S. Sims or Thomas (TE) or maybe even a RB out of the backfield.

It will be exciting to see who fills the void left by Harmon. We really need for someone to step up to take the pressure off of McLaurin, so he can make his usual spectacular plays!

Re: WFT 2020 Training Camp

The WFT is definitely positioned to keep 5 RB's, if they want to do so. I think they should. Here are my reasons, not in order of importance but simply as they come to mind.

- AP is still your bell cow. He's on the team.

- You just can't cut exceptional young talents like Love and Gibson.

- If AP is injured and unable to play, who handles the short yardage inside running duties? It has to be Peyton Barber. He is a very tough and effective inside runner.

- If somebody else needs to be cut in order to keep all 5 RB's, why keep a mediocre backup WR instead of either McKissic or Gibson when both of these RB's have experience as WR's ( McKissic in the NFL) and can be used at WR as needed? Also, both of these players are explosive and not ho-hum.

- McKissic needs to play ahead of Gibson for now as the 3rd down back, as Gibson learns and develops.

- If I ruled the roster, I would want to move Gibson to WR anyway. The idea of our future starting WR's being Terry McLaurin, Steven Sims, Jr. (slot), and Antonio Gibson is as explosive as it gets. Add to that Bryce Love and J.D. McKissic in the backfield with a top-notch TE (high draftee or FA) and we would be unstoppable.
