No matter how you feel his results speak for themselves and Kyle is well respected around the league as a competent talent evaluator. It would be a bad loss for the org; you can’t have too many people who evaluate talent well. Again, we will be able to see how this plays down the road. We know who we passed on here. |

Here it comes...
“Update from @Russellmania621: #Rams, #49ers, #Packers, #Raiders have all shown interest in Kyle Smith. Regarding San Francisco (which would be a lateral move): "I've heard Washington would not stand in their way." |

Yup, couple guys we let walk went on to 2 SB and another who could go to one this year. Clearly they have no clue how to coach and manage talent

Success to this team is clearly a bad word. |

Now he's a dynasty builder... mmmmk... Does anyone else on here think that the infatuation with Kyle is just a bit much - or is it just me. I mean, I'm sure he's a good guy, and he has a keen eye for talent (blah, blah, blah), but is he really a unicorn in that respect? Aren't there a ton of dudes around the league that can do his job as good or better? Y'all act like he has been the only one in the room when decisions were made - and he was the final decision maker. Let him go already - if that is what is going to happen... At this point, I could care less. |

You don’t have to be blind to see what Smith has done. His mid to lower rounds are better than anyones, his achilles has been the 4th rounders, some of those picks are still to be determined if they’ll pan out. I guess McLaurin, Gibson, Settle, Holcomb, Moreland, Kurl and others are shitty picks? You think Mayhew/Hurney would be able to do that? I highly doubted. |

Therein lies the flaw in this argument. Again, you cannot attribute this roster and the previous three years of draft picks (both good and bad) to Smith, and Smith alone. |

Here's the past 9 drafts, players that are still in the league, making an impact - mostly starters, but some are now backups. They are still contributing as compared to other draft picks who are either not in the league or have disappeared on the benches somewhere. 2012 - RGIII, Kirk Cousins, Alfred Morris, Tom Compton 2013 - (no 1st Rd pick) Jordan Reed, Chris Thompson, 2014 - (no 1st Rd pick) Trent Murphy, Morgan Moses, Bashaud Breeland 2015 - Brandon Scherff, Preston Smith, Jamison Crowder, Austin Reiter 2016 - Kendall Fuller, Matt Ioannidis, Nate Sudfeld 2017 - Jonathan Allen, Ryan Anderson, Fabian Moreau, Chase Rouillier 2018 - Daron Payne, Tim Settle 2019 - Montez Sweat, Terry McLaurin, Cole Holcomb, Jimmy Moreland 2020 - Chase Young, Antonio Gibson, Kamren Curl As you can see there were some pretty good picks prior to Kyle Smith and all his glory. There were also some pretty bad picks (not listed) before Kyle and with Kyle. The notion that things are markedly better because of his presence is simply false. You really really like him though, and that's ok. I just don't think he's as much of a difference maker as you would like to believe. |

These are moves that can't be judged today, but I hope we're not looking back in 5 years on Rivera and co. the way we look back at Mike Shanahan or Jay Gruden. Kyle Smith represents the last of the young guns (Kyle S., McVay, LaFleur) to rise up in this organization and move on to better situations elsewhere. Time will tell if he's destined for a starring role but I'm sad to see him go. In the meantime I still trust Ron's process, until the results don't pan out at least. |

He’s not a GM and needs more experience...completely understandable. People who know football understand his value and will add him to staff immediately. So he’s not a fit for Ron, perfectly fine. Like I’ve stated, we know exactly now who Ron has chose and we know who has been passed over... Kyle, and the 2 guys from Chargers and Titans. We will see what happens. The org has let talent out the door before, it’s 1000000% reasonable for the fan base to have doubt. I love Ron and what’s he’s doing...I want these decisions to work out |

Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
I think some of you here may be making Kyle Smith out to be more than he is. He's been great for us - but he's not gotten a SNIFF at being a GM or even an assistant GM anywhere else in the league - including in SF, LA, or GB - all places where former coaches here are now head coaches. Kyle's good, but lets not have illusions that he's some amazing up-and-coming talent primed for a greater role.
I'd suggest that Kyle - at this stage in his career - is in the exact role he should be in. He's good at it - but not good enough to make any one of the 31 other NFL franchises contact him for an interview for a promotion. It's been a dismal 30 years for the franchise, and thats made some of you think Kyle allen is more than he is. Its like we're loser kids in high school who want to marry a girl whos a "3" because we think she's the best we can do. And you know what, in high school, maybe she was. But now that we've graduated college, have a high paying job, lost weight and are in excellent physical shape, and got rid of all that acne - theres a chance we might be able to do better. There's no reason to stick with the "3" that we know when there is a world of possibilities open to us now. Yeah, I like Kyle too. But there's a time when I thought Eric Shaffer and Alex Santos were indispensable. A year later, i am not even sure I got their names right. It could be Alex Shaffer and Eric Santos. To be honest, I dont really care. We got rid of them and dont miss them one bit. If Ron prefers Marty and Martin, then I'll trust his judgement and wish Kyle the best. |
I trust Ron !
Yeah man. That is what it boils down to for me. Who knows, maybe this whole thing goes the way of Schottenheimer, Gibbs 2.0, Shanahan, Gruden...but I feel like RR did his homework before he took this position, and absolutely told Danny that it was going to be his way or no way... I don't think RR would even be here if he thought things would be as they were. So far it is noticeably different. They won the damn division in his first year and were within a TD from taking out TB12 in the playoffs with a dude at QB who had only started 2 NFL games. BRUCE IS GONE. DH is kicked to the curb. Players love being here....so yeah, I'm optimistic. I don't think Kyle's presence on that staff is going to win or lose any games over the next several years, so if he wants to go - bubbye. |
Re: What happens with Kyle Smith?
Ron has never been in this position before. He doesn't know anymore than we do, how this will unfold. This is like a chain of command with a cable splitter/splicer.
I was a huge fan of the Rivera hire and still am. But this setup still has me a bit nervous. That being said, even if Kyle leaves, I'm still more excited for the future than I have been in a while. I'd prefer a bit different set-up, but we now have more professionals in the building. And hopefully more buffers between Ron and Danny Boy. |

Per @JasonLaConforta “Hearing the WFT has moved on from former top personnel exec Kyle Smith and is also making significant changes to its college scouting staff”
While he maybe right on this, JLC and Chris Russell are 2 of the least reliable when it comes to WFT news. Personally I will wait for Keim, Rappaport, or Finlay to say it is a wrap. Typically scouting staff changes come after this year's draft, so my guess and expectation would be that any major changes come after that - unless KS receives a top notch offer. |
