At least the defense is enjoyable to watch. I actually look forward to their "turn" on the field. |

I can't remember who said this, probably heard it on Sheehan's podcast, but apparently after they lost out on Stafford the conversation immediately turned to let's go get Fitzpatrick. So even though they sniffed around a few other QB's Fitz was always at the forefront of their plan. |

He also just said "We may not add another QB this year" Interesting |
Re: Fitzmagic Thread
I think the draft board is wide open. If great value presents itself at QB, they'll take him. But it doesn't have to be forced if it's not there.

Re: Fitzmagic Thread

Interesting
Why bother? Unless it's a top prospect that will immediately start, any guy we take is going to be buried on the depth chart and running the practice squad at best. I know some like to think we can just draft a guy and have a 4 way competition, but that's just not reality. With Fitz, Allen, and Heinicke I think the QB room shapes up well. And if you think Montez has anything at all, you keep him as the developmental/practice squad guy. |

Interesting
Per @NickiJhabvala Ron Rivera says it's not paramount they get their "QB of the future now. In Carolina, he got Cam and then built around him. "I've always thought if you could do it the other way, where you put all the other pieces around them and then go get your QB, that could be good." I think it’s pretty clear that Ron is content to continue to build this team with a stop gap QB, and short of a top QB prospect falling into our laps at 19 (which is extremely unlikely), we will go with BPA at 19, and I’d love that. Ron has consistently said he is building things the right way with a long term focus. This comment once again reinforces his past comments. Real football guys making real football moves. It’s a mindset shift for this fan base but I’m eating it up. LFG!!! |
Re: Fitzmagic Thread
It's smoke and mirrors season so I don't take too much stock in what all the decision-makers are saying. Obviously Fitz is here to stay in 2021. Beyond that it's anybody's guess as to what that QB room will look like on September 9th.

Heineken is here to stay also and very well could be starting at any point this season including week one. Fitz could be an insurance policy on him getting injured. An extremely solid insurance policy. Lets face it Fitz has sat on the bench his entire career. I think if healthy and in a good situation either one of them can be very successful. Just wanted to throw my two cents in that it is a two horse race right now. |

On the flip side, that moment of not caring is fleeting. Look at the last five SB winning teams. Bucs dont care right now because they just won it and Brady is there. Chiefs are good cus they won one with their young franchise quarterback. But ask the Eagles or Patriot fans how they feel about their quarterback situation right about now. They are like two and three years removed from that moment of not caring and it is a total panic situation at the quarterback position. I think it is always important to have a plan for the future. |

You seem to be just blowing off what Ron said. It's not a race, it's RF's job to lose. And RF hasn't sat his whole career, he's started 146 games, that's a lot of experience. Meanwhile TH has started 1 regular season game. |

Yes, TB won and they have Brady. But will Brady be there in 4 years? I doubt it. Who do they have on their roster that will be QB at that time? Probably nobody. Of course TB is thinking about the QB position when Brady leaves but they know that in the NFL the future is the 2021 season and they have their QB. I'm not saying don't plan for the future, you always have to keep that in the back of the mind. But the reality is the future is the 2021 season and WFT has its QB of the future. I am in no way comparing their careers was just making the point that Fitz isn’t a stranger to being a backup. I am also not doubting that Fitz is the clear cut favorite to start week one, but if Heineken impresses in camp and Ron has that recent playoff game fresh in his head Fitz will be on a real short leash. I am sure that KC is thinking about their future QB because there are no guarantees about how much longer Mahommes plays. WFT looked like it had its QB future locked up back in 2012 until RG3 got hurt and nothing was the same after that. |

The D will bail RF out too, he can still have a bad day and we can still win, which might help his job security a little. |

I would say there is no way KC is thinking about their future quarterback. Lol. I mean sure anything could happen but ya cant base your teams future on what if’s. RG-3 was different. He was never the passer Mahommes is. Not even close. I remember in 2012 people saying RG-3 ‘s style is not sustainable plus we had Cousins. Just a completely different situation. The idea is just to have a young solid quarterback and have that position wrapped up for the foreseeable future, and hope that nothing catastrophic happens to the dude. |

Yeah I would tend to agree but shit happens and honestly im not convinced Heineken cannot be a stud if he stays healthy. He really left an impression on me after making an awesome defense look silly. But hey if Fitz balls out im absolutely good with that. I like Fitz alot. |

Agreed. Heinicke made an impression on me too. I'm hoping he has the chance to demonstrate that it was down to innate ability and not just a one off because if that happens we have our guy for the future, with more than capable back up from Fitz for 2021 |

Hindsight about RG3 is 20/20 but at the time everyone in WFT nation thought the QB spot was locked up for the foreseeable future. Turns out that future was less that 2 years. |

He was having a decent year in Miami last year. At best I expect a decent year. At worst I expect an average close to what our combined qb's did last year. Alls I know is it should be entertaining, hopefully mostly good and a few "wtf kinda throw was that Fitz" moments mixed in. |
Re: Fitzmagic Thread
Fitz has failed everywhere he has gone and has been replaced. What makes anyone think this time is going to e any different?
He has played his best ball over the last couple years and we actually have a pretty good team in place around him. This is a one year stop gap at the moment and he cannot be worse than Haskins or a broken Alex Smith so that is why I am holding out hope. Add in Heineken and I think we have the best quarterback squad since 2012. |

If Fitz has been a failure everywhere he’s gone, what do you call QBs that wash out and don’t get extended or even get an opportunity to play for a second club, much less 9?! |

Definitely thought we were good to go, though there were mumblings in the background saying his style and his build were not sustainable. I still dont think you give up on chasing the quarterback though. Probably 75 percent of championship teams during the Superbowl era had that guy. Off the top of my head there is Williams, Rypien, Dilfer, Foles, and Jim McMahon that didn’t fit that franchise quarterback mold. Rodgers, Aikman, Bradshaw, Brady, Montana , Young, Breese, Mahommes, Warner, Staubach, Wilson, Favre, Big Ben - those are off the top of my head that did fit the mold. It is probably 75-80 percent of Superbowl champions that do. So history says you gotta have that guy, or you gotta have everything else and catch lightning in a bottle with a journeyman type. |

Not to mention Joey T. Where would you put those? (So far you've considered all our QBs to be journeymen.) Various notes: On RG3: everybody was always commenting that he just couldn't learn how to slide. It looks like we've been putting more focus on intelligence in our QBs. Alex Smith entered college with ~12 APs and graduated in 2 years, Heineke takes serious math classes, Fitzmagic went to Harvard. Heineke kept on hitting his receivers in the hands. On the first miss Sims stopped on the route. I'm hoping we get a left tackle to protect our QB investment(s). And I think if it was a less important game Heineke wouldn't have risked getting injured on his run, as I have to think he is smarter than that. With Fitzmagic in, Heineke has more chance to bulk up which should help in terms of injury. |

It won't make a massive difference, but if he were to strengthen his shoulder and knee musculature in particular it would help him. As long as he doesn't reduce his arm strength/speed (by bulking slower muscle fibres). It's not a matter of bulking up, per se, it's about the right type of targeted training to improve the strength of the respective muscle types you want to improve. be very surprised if the S&F coach isn't helping him already, given his injury history. |

100 percent agree with this take. Maybe misunderstood before? I am much happier about our quarterback room now than i was last year at this time. I also was not in favor of selling or trading the farm for Watson. I would prefer to get our guy in the draft no doubt. |
