Giving up the picks isn't bad if you are let's say the Rams. We ain't that. We need those to help upgrade a roster w/ a lot of holes.
You can upgrade the roster all you want but if you put Heinicke as the Rams starter they don't win 8 games. Its all about the QB and WC just upgraded. |

Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
I feel way better about going into 2022 with Wentz than I did going into 2021 with Fitz. So for me, it was a good move. The only outcome you can honestly say would have been better - for sure - is if they were able to land Wilson/Watson/Rodgers. They took a big swing for Wilson, Rodgers went back to GB, and Watson is still in legal limbo.
I'm not exactly sure what you debbie downers expect the team to do. They swung for the fence and ended up with a stand-up triple. I'll take it.
I say a blooper single. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
My reaction to Wentz being traded is simple.
He has this season to save his career as an NFL starter. Dan 0 |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
What is odd to me is why did the colts give up on him? Especially Frank Reich. I watched the first hard knocks episode last night, that guy loved Carson. They don't have a QB in the wings and we gave them really nothing to solve that issue in the trade.
I can see why the Eagles moved on from him, they had Hurts who they feel is better, fine and that got a 1st round pick for Carson. Just red flags too me. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
Did you watch his last 3 games when the colts needed him the most? He looked like shit, I mean shit!! Noodle arm and really bad decision, he was responsible for the colts blowing 3 games they should have easily won.
Here are some lowlights of our future: https://youtu.be/uzGGduPwJDA
I bet Carson doesn't come to us if he had won that JAX game. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
On passes 20 plus yards down field CW had a 90 Overall grade which was in the top 10 of the league for starting QBs
Taylor H = 56 (Worst among 32 starters) That is the big leap we will have with Wentz, he can stretch the field and put pressure on those DBs. |
I bet Carson doesn't come to us if he had won that JAX game.
Exactly, he had an awful game and their owner and GM had a knee jerk reaction, Several Colts players have tweeted that he will be missed.. If you watch hard knocks you will see that dude is always in the film room and is just a likeable dude. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
Actually Wentz and Dak's grades are very similar..

For the first time in Carson Wentz career he has a true #1 receiver in their prime & there are no great QB’s without a true #1 receiver. Carson Wentz is the only QB in NFL history to throw for 4,000 yards in a season w/o a 500 yard WR. With @TheTerry_25, Carson won’t fail! 🔥🔥 E. ACHO |

I think a blooper single would have been the likes of Bridgewater, Dalton, T Taylor, etc |

Have you returned your Mitch jersey and ordered the new Wentz jersey? |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
Ha! I would have been fine with Mitch here if that is what they decided to do.
I don't buy current player jerseys... |

This. Wentz was a solid double. |

Wentz was a solid double.
Fine but not a stand up triple. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
Ron’s approach to culture and his relationship with players is why I feel much more comfortable with this move. Wentz does have a lot to prove, but can’t deny last year was a nice bounce back season on the field.

All the owners are pretty much whack jobs. In that article Wentz even tired to reach out to Jim I to clear the air. I think a sane person would have been like lets try one more year with Carson and get him some WR help, then make a decision in 2024. Nope instead trade him for song and lets go all in on trying to get a Jim G type guy. Maybe its me but not sure jimmy G is much of a upgrade over Carson. |

Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
Interesting take from JP:
@JPFinlayNBCS Wentz threw for 3500 yards on 63 percent passing last year, 27 TDs vs just 7 INTs. Stats look good. But my biggest concern is Indy just traded for him, and now they trade him without a clear upgrade. Something doesnt add up
Exactly!!!why would his long time coach drop him despite his 27 7 stats after 1 year? |

Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
13 hours in this thread and we are now debating baseball metaphors. I think we are missing spring training collectively.
Was looking at some of Wentz stats from last season. He had five games where his QB rating was below Heinicke's season average. In those games Indy went 2-3. Two of those games came against Jax. Perhaps sometimes a coach just has a players number? |

It is if you are Ricky Henderson. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
After a good night sleep and watching that first hard knocks episode I am more excited about this. I think Irsay is a fucking idiot and to blame the Colts collapse solely on Carson is just dumb.
In the end unless we win the draft lottery on a QB no one really much better then Carson is coming here and lets be honest if he was cut from Indy he wasn't picking us. Honestly instead of focusing on getting a franchise QB through trade/FA the Commanders should go out dumb a ton of money into the best QB scout there is and have him/her find us the next Joe Burrow or that late round Russell Wilson. |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
It's not just the Jacksonville game. When you have two teams give up on you in two years that is just a huge huge red flag. You can say it was all Irsay to make your argument but the GM didn't give him an endorsement either. Someone was saying that Ballard told Wentz that he "misses the easy routine plays, he's misses the layups."
I see why Ron did what he did. I understand it, I just don't agree w/ it. Wentz simply isn't a good enough player anymore IMO to warrant the draft capital and the salary. It was an overpay and it was a move of a desperate coach. One third rounder would have been fair. But if he plays 70% which he most likely will then it's a second. I don't agree w/ that. Too much for a guy who would have been on the street next week. |

That's an error. Which this wasn't. LOL |
Re: Welcome Carson Wentz
You're always going to pay a premium in a trade for a QB. Always.
If he hits the street as a free agent your chance of getting him goes down significantly. Desperate move? Of course it's fucking desperate, are we forgetting what a joke we've been at QB since Kirk left? Couple that with a weak QB class and yeah, of course Ron was desperate to upgrade at QB. Wentz has a lot to prove this year, if he blows it his starting days are probably done. |

You seem to be really high on this guy. We all knew Wentz was going to be released but no one on here mentioned picking him up. |
