I assume he could get out of that. He's not their GM anymore. You just have to get someone at the top that knows what they're doing, that has a track record of success. I tuned into Ron and Mayhew and had to turn them off after listening to their nonsense. This team is going nowhere w/ those two. And maybe Mayhew could do better if he didn't have Ron sitting there talking about his ground and pound bullshit. But my point is neither is better than Ozzie so do whatever it takes. |

We need to have a talk, Carr isn’t Wentz. Carr is a much better, established QB.

We can’t fall into trap thinking every vet QB is Wentz or Wilson or Ryan … makes you think though 😳, It all depends on our choices and what we would have to give up … whoever we bring in Howell should be able to have a fair competition because I truly believe he can play , |

Call me crazy…Jay Gruden with Carr would be a good match for this team, right now
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I'm not against the idea of bringing Carr here, as long as we sign him through free agency, not trade.
My ideal plan is to sign a QB and have an open competition between him and Howell during the training camp, and focus on strengthening the team through draft and FA. If the QB doesn't work out in 2023 then we would be in a better position to give up our capitals to get a real QB at the end. |

@jjones9 The Washington Commanders have seemingly found their 2023 QB1: Sam Howell
well that is bad news until more is shown of him; he definitely doesn't check we are all set at QB1 box https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/commanders-informing-potential-offensive-coordinator-candidates-sam-howell-is-their-starting-qb-for-2023/ If that story is true , just LOL What fucking quality OC is going to be excited to come here and be told he has a one game wonder QB to work with. Until this franchise is sold everything is moot; we are officially in the lame duck mode. If i was a OC of any worth i wouldn't come here; this franchise could be sold tomorrow and RR and his staff asked to pack their shit and move on. Nothing of substance can happen here until its sold. It be like if you and your wife were house shopping but also filed for divorce. |

Just to be clear, this does not mean I believe that Howell is a good QB. This has everything to do with the situation we are in today - the QB options is very limited and we are not in a position to swing big to acquire a QB (via trade or draft). According to reports, Howell showed some good things in practices all year. Also, Howell played relatively well against a good defense with a patched up Oline and no RBs. Howell has the talents and the only issue with him is the footing, which can be resolved through coaching and practices. With that in mind, along with the fact that our QB options through free agency and draft, why wouldn't anyone want to give Howell a chance? |

I don't think anyone hates Howell at all. I believe the majority of the "haters" hate the idea of him being named QB1 in Jan 23. He needs a opportunity to be QB1 but we also need someone else to compete for QB1 in 2023 (who it is i have no fucking idea and for all the scenarios every one is drawing up no one thought this time last year CW be on the roster [ not that it was a good move just saying we have really no idea what they are thinking]) |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Howell may not be the answer, but whether he succeeds or fails, going with him is the best option for the long term interests of the team. Sign a low price vet back-up, Heinike probably being the best choice for this team.

What? How can he be the best long term option regardless if he succeeds or fails? Literally makes 0 sense |

Per JP: the team is planning on Howell as QB1 entering the off season but the door is not closed on signing or trading for a QB if the right fit is there.
What?
How can he be the best long term option regardless if he succeeds or fails? Literally makes 0 sense
I think I get the point : you can never know for sure if a QB is gonna pan out or not, but having a good QB on his rookie contract is a great situation to be in. So right now, not giving away any assets and giving yourself a chance with a kid that showed he has potential is the best long term option. How it actually pans out doesn't change the parameters of the situation at the point you made the decision. And I agree with this approach. We may have a franchise QB on the roster, for free, so why gamble assets on something we may not need to buy in the first play ? Especially with the sale and probable change of HC coming up in the near future, I don't want Ron to make any huge future impacting moves. Envoyé de mon SHV48 en utilisant Tapatalk |
What?

Literally makes 0 sense
Makes sense if you can see past 2023 (Which is why I said long term interests - and yes I'm aware most fans can't see beyond the next season - actually that is an American trait). A new coaching regime is almost certainly coming in 2024. Do you really want to saddle a new coach with the old coaches FA QB contract (ie Carr)? And especially if you traded draft picks for him? Howell is on a rookie contract, if in 2023, he succeeds the new coach has a young QB he can resign couple of years down the road, if he fails- not really a major problem as the new coach can then go and choose his own QB. |

Stromm is on the roster, but I wouldn't rate him higher than 3rd string. I'd say naming him #1 at this point more about making CW and TH positions clear (release and at best #2 if re-signed), thus setting up off-season plans, and simple common sense from RR knowing if the team is sold, at best he's a lame duck and unlikely able to shell out for another high price trade/FA. If nothing else it saves RR fielding dumb "who is the #1 QB on the roster going into the off-season' questions! |

There are other things that need to be fixed. But a good or bad offseason is only determined by 1 thing:
Snyder sells = Great offseason Snyder doesn't sell = We're fucked |

Per source, Washington will meet with Pat Shurmur (

We just had a young OC and it didn't work out. Not all on him, but still. I just want someone at OC that can adapt to what we have and help Sam grow if he's indeed our QB1. Josh McDaniels is "young" and he has driven two franchises to the ground. |

I'm just encouraged that they're looking outside of the Ron familiarity tree. Indicates a willingness to accept new ideas, casting a wider net.
If they end up promoting Zampese I'll be dismayed. |
